Yo whats up with Josh Smith (HS one lol) dropping in the rankings? He went from top-5 to top-20…This guy is still a top-10 prospect in my eyes, but why is he dropping so much? I know he’s not a hard worker, but come on…I know he’s not the only one.

I dunno, many people question his work ethic and his low post moves….I dunno why he is falling either

The dudes got great hands and incredible strength. He is also very athletic for someone who is carrying 40 pounds more than he should…

I havent heard his name mentioned for a while maybe he just was not great in any AAU games and they thought other players were better.

yeah he’s gonna work on that work ethic early, him and AAU teammate Tony Wroten are playing football this year.. maybe it’ll help both of their games, but Josh might be one of the most coveted recruits cause its rare thing to find these kind of big men thats why he has like 30 scholarship offers. lol

It’s ridiculous. He has so many college offers it’s not even funny.

I go to Kentridge, Kentwood’s rival school. I have guarded Josh before, and his only skill is his size. He is NOT a hard worker. Every year KW gets knocked out of the playoffs by Kentridge. People know that Josh is the only good player on his team, and people expect too much of him. So seeing him not go to the state tournament 2 years in a row kinda lowers his status. By the way, look out for Kentridge’s Gary Bell. In my opinion, he is better than Tony Wroten overall. Not as athletic, but omg he can shoot like Ray Allen. Don’t worry Josh has every school in the Nation wanting him. I don’t think he will do well against guys that are his size and/or bigger, but we will just have to see about it.

Nice post, but no way at all that Gary is better than Tony…Tony, in my opinion is the best player in that class.

    Wroten’s court vision is amazing.

Combined with 6,4-6,5 size (can still grow!) and solid athleticism and quicknes you have quite the package.

I don’t know, but I heard he is going to be playing football his senior year and not taking the usual just-focus-on-basketball route… Probably doesn’t have anything to do with the drop, though..

He should be a good football player…Tight end? Haha. That would be funny to watch.

Peyton Siva used to play WR at his high school and he was amazing until he broke his collarbone and focused on basketball.. i think football can help every ball player’s toughness and strength & conditioning as well

hes still top 5 in some recruiting services. i watched him out in vegas..very very very talented..nice post moves and gets above the rim wit ease..problem is he sometimes doesnt work hard( like cousins) doesnt fight hard to get position and is over weight. thats probably why he drops in some publications…theres a site that has the ranks of each player on the top 4 sites but i cant remeber which..i do know that theres no concenous number one for all of them..barnes is number 1 on 3 out of the 4 and number 2 on the other

Josh Smith has never been anything more than a big body to me anyway. He plays below the rim, and he doesnt have the quick feet of a Big Baby Davis or Tiny Gallon that would allow him to be a functional inside outside player, or even mid-range. He doesnt project to be an elite player, probably a 4-year guy, and 4-year players are never meant to be projected in the top 5 of a recruiting class. The recruiting people probably thought he could get taller and better but he hasnt done much of either since he has been in high school really, and he has a questionable work ethic.

how long ago did you see him?..i saw him at vegas and he was dunking on people and everything he caught down low he dunked even while being out of shape..maybe when you saw him he was just being lazy. he cocked it back and dunked very hard on some 6’10 235-240 athletic dude

that is all that josh does. Every time he’s near the rim he dunks. He really doesn’t have any post moves, and if he is on the block with someone else his size guarding him, I think he will get rattled a little bit. The 2nd tallest guy in the league other than josh is like 6’5″. Josh punishes our league, but his team will never make it to state. Anyways, Tony is way more athletic, and probably has better playmaking abilities, but he can’t shoot worth a darn. His free throw routine is going between the legs twice, and then shooting. Gary’s shot is like butter, he has good playmaking skills, and is decently athletic. Tony has the size advantage, but I don’t know. I would like to see them play each other at State next year and see them go head to head. That would be more exciting than seeing Josh just murder everyone down low.

i dont know what he did during his jr year but i do know what i saw in vegas and that was him showing some nice spin moves up and unders jump hooks and dunks. i do think he needs to lose some weight and play harder but i think he wil have a nice college career…i think his ranking is justified. i do know he isnt better then the sullinger kid though

I think it was the King James camp or an Adidas tourny, I cant remember. But he was looking like DeJuan Blair without toughness…maybe he was out of shape but He didnt look like much to me.

Big-bodied post with soft hands and pretty good feet. Fairly good skills for an incoming freshman. Scout.com analyst Greg Hicks wrote about Smith in July of 2007: “He’s a big-bodied kid and he’s still carrying some considerable baby fat. However, he moves well in spite of that extra weight. He’s also got great hands. He catches anything that comes near him. His feel around the basket is advanced and he’s got a nice touch in the 10-12 foot range. He gets up a little better than you might expect and that only figures to improve as he tones up and his body matures. With continued development, he’s a potential elite prospect.” …only difference is he still hasnt gotten rid of that baby fat and still is lazy from time to time
