RondoJB11ParticipantJordan was simply wrong. He didnt need to join Magic or Larry cause he already had a great team that won 6 championships. Same for Bird and Magic they had great teams and didnt need it cause they were winning. Lebron didnt have that around them Shaq and Jamison arent worthy and Kareem. Shaq and Jamison arnt McHale and Parish. Shaq and Jamison arnt rodman and Pippen. Now Lebron has his rodman and pippen in wade and bosh. Does anyone else agree or am I by myself on this one.

Michael.S.ParticipantAgree. Why would Jordan leave? He had Pippen…He was winning already. LeBron never even h a legit all-star to play with, not one.

BDNETSParticipantAnd Antwan Jamison Averaged 20 and 9 before getting to Cleveland. His numbers, as did the numbers of every other decent player who played with Lebron, dropped when playing with Lebron. Lebron didn’t play with bums. Larry Hughes put up 22ppg 6rpg, 5apg and 3 steals per game before he got to Cleveland for a Wizards team that went to the Playoffs. More than adequate “Pippen” type numbers. Start Blaming Lebron for not measuring up. All this he played with no one stuff is CRAZY. Last 2 years they won 66 and 61 games. Lebron didn’t do it going 1 on 5.
Jamison will post 20 and 9 numbers again this year in Cleveland. And with Byron Scott and Jamison, Mo Williams and their ability to defend don’t count them out for the Playoffs. They will all have something to prove. Be smart if Cleveland took a stab at Richard Jefferson who went to the finals twice with Scott. Not Lebron but not terrible either. And I’m a Nets Fan.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantJordan is a cocky S.O.B..
Jordan is the best player ever..No doubt..Everyone has placed him on a well deserved level..
And anytime someone says a certain player is about to come close to approaching it he says something to knock them down…Lebron did diminish his legacy a little by leaving Cleveland and joining (Wade’s Team.)
People who followed & love the game of basketball ..Would’ve rather seen him go play in New York or Chicago..Then see him join a player who some might say is a better closer then he is..Even though Chicago have Rose ..Who is an AllStar he’s not on Wade,Kobe & Lebron’s level..
Real fans want to see the best players challenge each other…

dipt1982ParticipantI think the point Jordan was making is that he would never go join players like that just in hopes of winning a title, he would want to compete and beat those players to prove he was the best. What is LeBron proving if they win in Miami? That he can join up with two other ‘great’ players and win? Kobe could have fled and went to Chicago when he was having a few down seasons with the Lakers, but he stayed and made it work. You work out the kinks every year, and LeBron was very close to having that mission completed. Oh well, I don’t really care either way, just my opinion on the matter.

sheltwon3ParticipantWhat exactly would have been Lebron’s legacy if he stayed and did not win anything.
I believe if Lebron wins 4 or more titles his legacy will be pretty much the same cept people will say he was Magic or Big O like rather than Jordan. Lebron never was Jordan like.
The media had it wrong all this time and now the truth is coming out and it is not negative because Lebron always knew he was more Magic than Jordan.
Also every Basketball player cept a few is cocky. You have to be at least borderline cocky to be in the NBA because it is a fast game and any small mistake can be the difference in winning and losing.
It may not seem like much in the regular season but in the playoffs , it is key.
Imagine if Ron Artest does not take that 3 because he doubts himself. Lakers probably lose. A lot of people would have been like Artest don’t shoot but he did and made it.

ronniemiller1kParticipantjordan is a competitor…nothing more exciting to watch than someone with his mindset do what they do best, which is why he was the best…yes pippen was a stud but jordan wasn’t gonna go out and beg for guys like that, he was soo damn good he knew he could make whatever team he had around him win…im sure he realized how much better pippen made him, but like he said, he wasnt gonna go looking to play with bird or magic, he wanted to beat them…miami didnt dump that much cap space for no reason, im sure wade had both of them convinced and jordans point is he wouldnt have went directly to them looking to make a dream team…if it happened im sure he wouldnt have complained, who can, but to directly orchestrate the makings of a 3 headed monster like that, thats just lame

mgreener_34Participant“What exactly would have been Lebron’s legacy if he stayed and did not win anything.”
Well to be honest people have been riding the “has no supporting cast” excuse for years now, what would be a few more?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/19/2010 - 8:35am #357427
sacphil_08ParticipantMichael jordan’s point is that in being a true champion and truly possessing the heart of a champion you want to beat those guys that are your “competition” or are superstars like you are. Look at who jordan beat and think of how many HOFers that dont have rings because jordan beat them all. There was the showtime lakers with magic and all those guys (they had rings already but chicago beating LA basically ended that era), he also ended the detroit pistons, he prevented clyde drexler from getting one (clyde got 2 but that was for the 2 years mj was playing baseball) he prevented charles barkley, patrick ewing, gary payton had to wait, and then theres karl malone and john stockton as well. Not to mention reggie miller. So mj beat the very best guys en route to all 6 of his rings. Its what the heart of a champion is. Its kind of like if youre playing pick up games and you are one of the best guys and then you have some average guys and then say 3 or 4 more guys that are as good as you, and you decide to put all the good players on one team and say lets run these guys. I definitely understand jordan’s philosophy and no one can question him in that regard. Also realize that pippen came to chicago as a potential guy, he developed into a superstar. Rodman came over as a superior defender/rebounder but he was no chris bosh. Then the other guys, kukoc, bj armstrong, kerr, paxson were all guys that were good players but were made substantially better because of mj. So its not like he had a bunch of superstars on one team and they just ran people. They played some of the best team defense you’ll ever see, and ran the triangle to perfection, all the while without a dominant big man. If lebron wins a championship (let alone multiple) he’ll get some recognition but i think this move makes it to where he will no longer be seen in the same light as jordan or even kobe for that matter. It’s kind of the “easy way out” so to speak although a championship isn’t necessarily “easy” but you get the gist of it.

RondoJB11ParticipantThe nba isnt pick up basketball and you cant say that there gonna run guys because the other teams in the league have as just as much talent. Now if Jordan would have verbaly said lebron doesnt have the heart of a champion I wouldve agreed but he didnt say that.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantPeople talk about Jordan had Pippen..
Jordan struggled thru 3 years before Pippen came along in 1987..But then it took Pippen 2 years before he was contributing on a regular basis…Jordan played in his 1st finals in his 7th season…Lebron made his 1st finals appearance in his 4th season with maybe the worst starting lineup to ever make the Finals…Cleveland wasnt that far from winning a ring..Lebron left the Cavs becuz he wanted to make history…Dude has an ego as big as the Mississippi River…He wanted to stop Kobe from being mentioned in the same class as Jordan by getting a 6th ring..

GrizzNationParticipantjordan didnt come into the league with a good team, it took him 7 years to win a title, he ws 28 when he won his first, with that said lebron left the cavs after 6 or 7 years
had he stuck around im sure they couldve put a team around him, im sure they couldve put atleast 1 all-star talent with him..
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/19/2010 - 9:25am #357466
NYK2010ParticipantHe could’ve went to the Bulls or Knicks and had a decent supporting cast.
With Rose, Deng, Noah and Boozer thats a solid team.
With the Knicks having Amare, Gallo, Douglas and some young pieces and cap room which would’ve helped to bring in another top tier free agent next year.
Either way he could’ve won titles and been the franchise player but it wouldn’t be a potential dream team like in Miami.
Not just the big 3 but they have Haslem, Mike Miller, Big Z and kept Magloire, James Jones and Joel Anthony.
Now they have Haslem and Mike Miller coming off the bench many teams would have them starting.
Also they could get Juwan Howard who proved he’s still got something left.0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/19/2010 - 10:16am #357503
jjmass22ParticipantEvery teamate Jordan played with, played better with him, than without him, the bulls grew as a team, besides getting rodman, never even a big free agent move. People act as if Jordan teamed up with pippen, to make a all-star team. Pippen was only potential when he came to Chicago. They grew together, thick and thin and they had there share of heartbreaks but stuck with it, both playing for less money the first 4 championships. The cavs tried to get lebron help, mo Williams was a 19 ppg all star the year before teaming up with bron, Jamison declined also with lebron as a teamate, Larry hughes. Also declined. These may seem likebad moves now, but that’s only because they didn’t work out.the cavs were trying, and in my opinon, 1 champion in Cleveland would do more for his legacy than 3 titles in Miami

mikeyvthedonParticipantI think any move he made he would be criticized, but none more than not living up to “the Jordan mould”. Michael would never had played with Larry and Magic for many reasons, the foremost being that by the time Michael was winning, Larry and Magic were on their way out. He would have maybe had two years playing with them, and they were shadows of their former selves. These guys were all in the same draft class, all on teams without a legitimate second option and were all close friends from knowing each other on and off the court, their playing on the Gold Medal Redeem Team highlighted that. By the time Michael played with Magic and Larry on the Dream Team, by that next year both of them had left the league. So, this comparison, is pretty lame. If Michael were to play with Hakeem and say, John Stockton, than maybe that would be semi-similar. Both of them were in his draft class and their positions in the league closely correspond with LeBron and Bosh. Still, Michael can say whatever he wants, I am sure he is happy his legacy is safe and he can harp on LeBron for not doing things the way he did. Kobe and LeBron, to me at least, were far behind Michael as soon as they came out of high school. Michael came in and took the league by storm, LeBron played well though no All-Star appearance and Kobe was a bench player for his first two years. Michael had as close to a perfect career for an individual player as has been had, even to the point that he came in as a dominant player, left as a dominant player twice, and played two seasons where he was over 40 and still holding his own, to the point where we forget them almost altogether. No, LeBron might not catch you Michael, he is a far ways behind, but not everyone has to be you, and I am kind of glad LeBron is choosing to do it a different way. Roll with the times, it is the best way not be seen as a grumpy jaded sports star.

NYK2010ParticipantNow Lebron has his rodman and pippen in wade and bosh. Does anyone else agree or am I by myself on this one.
Wade and Bosh are better offensive players and Bosh is a very good rebounder as well.
Wade could pass Pippen as an All time Great though there diff. kind of players.Mike Miller is a better scorer than Kerr/Paxson.

NYK2010ParticipantThats becaz of his defense if Lebron signed somewhere else they’d need Bosh to score.
Still the Heat have plenty of bigs behind Bosh now, Haslem is pretty good.0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/19/2010 - 8:29pm #357952

Demarcus OnealParticipantHow good was Jordans team when he continuly lost to the Bad Boys Pistons and told he couldnt get it done in the playoffs, How good was Kobe’s team when they started Smush Kwame Brown and Luke Walton but he still stayed its funny how everyone says the Lakers have a stacked team when before Gasol came to the Lakers he wasnt even considered a top 10 big men and now people are saying he is the best big man in the west and Andrew Bynum was a young 18 year odl who was a future bust and Ron artest a crazy player known for his Malice at the Palice and Lamar Odom a troubled but telented player. Winners make it happen and losers make excuses I have no problem with Lebron’s decison he made the best move for him to win but he has tarnished his repuation as being eventually as good as Kobe or Jordan or Magic those guys made their teams better they didnt leave them
