OhCanada-ParticipantI kind of feel like the Raptors have a bg deal lined up for JV. A few weeks ago I proposed a Valanciunas for Clarkson and 1st rounder #28 trade idea and got bashed for it by this forum and then LA goes and trades Russell and the same pick for Lopez. Valanciunas has to have similar value to Lopez being younger with more upside and durability. First thing I thought when I heard about the Brooklyn/LA trade was why didnt we offer Valanciunas for that package, it would have helped Masai shed salary so he can sign our many free agents and brought us more much needed shooting. But Ujiri has never dissapointed and always seems to pull off great deals so now Im just waiting to see what he can do next.
Is Valanciunas value as high as Lopez? What do you see Toronto getting in return? Is Atlanta now a possible partner? Where does he go?

flybobbyflyParticipantBrooklyn didnt trade Brook Lopez for D’angelo Russell and the 28th pick.
They traded Brook Lopez and the 27th pick for Russell and Mozgov.
They had to give up a first round pick, and take on a horrendous contract in order to get a talented young player. The Lakers probably wouldnt have even been interested in the trade if Lopez’s contract wasn’t expiring.
Valanciunas contract isn’t expirinf for a few years and he has topped out as an average center in the league. He has pretty low trade value. I bet that is why he is still on the Raptors.

BleedGreen808ParticipantThe Lakers move was about clearing cap space by dumping Mozgov. Lopez is an expiring deal while Jonas has 2yrs + a player option in 2019 left on his deal.

The GoatParticipantIts unbelievable how quick the league turned big men into dinosaurs. Jahlil Okafor was highly touted and a consensus top 3 pick and in a few months he turned into a redundant piece for todays NBA.
I personally still think there is a place for the talented big that only plays inside, but unless you are looking at a Shaq, no one is happy about taking these guys on as a starter unless they also have a jumper that extends to 3. Otherwise, you are not needed to score the ball.
You have either the group that consists of Draymond Green, Nikola Jokic, Thon Maker, Joel Embiid, KAT, Myles Turner, Porzingis, Demarcus Cousins
Otherwise, the defenders – Gobert, Noel, Jordan, Adams
The scorers and guys in between are destined for the bench – Okafor, Monroe, Vucevic,

The GoatParticipantYep, and Dwight Howard, Capela, RLopez, TT.. not exhaustive lists, but you get the idea. Kanter in the bench group too.
There is almost a 4th group of all round competent 5s like JV, Gortat, Nurkic and that are straddling the starter and bench groups.. not sure which group I have Brook Lopez in.
