I think this is a rather weak draft and Jonas Valaciunas is the only legit big man from the 2011 draft.

Not saying he’ll provide immidiate help to the Raps, but unlike Motiejunas and many many other European bigs, Jonas Valanciunas doesn’t play "soft" and has better potential than anyone in the draft to be a post presence. He is almost 6’11" (currently 6’10.75" but only 18y/o), is a great shotblocker and post defender, was the MVP and gold medalist of the U16 and U18 European Championships.

He is a project still, just like Sullinger, Kanter or Thabeet even. He is just 230lb, which is light for a center. But he’s just 18, and hopefully he’ll gain some weight later on. He has a bigger frame than Perry Jones for example and he should be able to gain some muscle but we don’t know yet. Anyway, he defnitely has the better post game(esp. defensively) than other bigs in the 2011 draft.

Valanciunas has the potential to be a good post presence in the league as his shotblocking and post defending ability are so apparent for his age. His game is totally different to typical European bigs, other than Milicic u rarely see a natural shotblocker/post defender from Europe but Valanciunas is one of the very few.

I don’t want you guys to hate on me for this, but I do think that everybody is underestimating Valanciunas and it isn’t necessarily fair for him. I’ve provided valid points, and give me some feedback 🙂

Thumbs me up if you agree!

Please dont make this like YouTube where everyone says thumbs up if you agree… I would really feel uncomfortable.

Kanter and Thompkins are byfar better offensive post presences. Seems like Valanciunas is a premiere  rebounder despite his slight weight. He is not as athletic as people advertise him to be, which will be extremely noticeable when he comes to the NBA. He should be a very serviceable rebounder, shot disturber/blocker, with a bit of offensive touch. I think his defensive game is similar to an aggressive Andris Beidrins, and his offensive game similar to an aggressive Nenad Kristic (although he will score more garbage points). Put those two together and you have a very good player.

He went #5 overall with questions about his buyout. How is he being underestimated or overlook?

I don’t think Raptors fans hates him, I think there’s just some uncertainty just like every International prospects.

Not really that bold, considering it was a weak draft and there are no real blue chip/sure fire prospect in this class.

I have been saying that a Derrick Williams-Hickson-Valenciunas front line would have been good for the Cavs.
Not sure what grade I gave the Raps but I think he will be good next to Bargs and will form a good three big man rotation along
    with Ed Davis.

I like next year’s draft for the Raptors now as it consists mainly of small forwards and guards. No centers so it is good they already drafted one.
Then if they win the lottery they can go with Harrison Barnes at small forward and move DeRozan to the 2. Or they can get Austin Rivers or one of the point guards if they don’t get a top 3 pick.

Yes. The trick is to find someone else to pick on, to make yourself feel big.

McTonka is a goober, and he’ll never be a forum all star.
