lalailaParticipantHow do you think JV will look this upcoming season?
For me he looks waaay better now.. mostly I judge his game from performances for our national team and going from 6/5 raw kid who better play back up to a grown man who avg 14.4ppg 8.4rbg in just under 25minutes it’s a major improvement.. not only he gets stronger and more experienced pretty quickly but his arsenal of moves becauses pretty nice for a 22yo center..
here are some highlights if you haven’t seen it:

Chilbert arenasParticipantI see him taking a big leap this year. I think this is the year his skill is finally met by confidence. If the Raptors keep heading on the upward trend they are on I see him as a fringe all-star player, Hibbert won’t be making it this year.

seniokasParticipantI liked what I saw from him in World Championship. His biggest improvement was his decisiveness in the post. He didn’t wait much time after getting the ball atacked aggressivelly and even used some counter moves, see Lithuania-France him drawing a ton of fouls against Lauvergne and Gobert (definitely influence of Hakeem haven’t seen anything similiar from him before). Even Lithuania’s NT coach Kazlauskas said that Valanciunas was a pleasant surprise and played better than expected. Jonas finished 5th in efficiency with 19.8 and averaged 14.4 and 8.4 which is promising. That being said, running the floor is still an issue. He tries hard but simply is slow on the open court which leads to easy opportunities for his opponents. There were also a few times when he simply lost concentration and let his men finish easily, evident in Lithuania-Slovenia game’s first half. Although, overall I believe he is making improvement defensively in his decision making when and when not to hedge out when to recover to his men and so on. These things are a lot about experience and he’s getting more and more experienced. Another huge area for improvement is his midrange shot. He still uses his awful midrange pump-fakes which are universally known as useless ‘cos everyone has them in their scouting reports. He should get that confidence to shoot those shots up to 17 feet, his free throw shooting tells us he is capable of doing. It will open up him driving opportunities which are neccessary for him against stronger opponents such as Demarcus Cousins because he is not strong/skilled enough to outplay them one one one. Overall, a promising improvement. Then again, it’s a small sample and he played quite a few weak teams, though his perfomances against NBA caliber talent in knockout round were his best

SmooveKRYPTParticipantI liked what I saw from him this tournament and I see him taking a step forward this year with some playoff experience under his belt as well as a nice run with the national team. Improved strength, confidence, as well as moves on the block are what I saw out of him. Him taking a step forward offensively could be huge for the Raptors and him (eligible for an extension next fall.) He seems to be putting it all together and I’m excited to see how this season goes for Toronto.

LA12ParticipantI like his game and can see him making a good impact fort he Raps this year. I just want him to stop with that pump fake he does every single time he gets the ball. No one falls for it and it’s so annoying to watch lol.

HitsterParticipantIf he continues his improvement I could see him being up to an 18/12 next season if you factor in him playing 35 mpg. Realistically I see him being about 15 or 16/10 next year. He may well be in with an All Star shout but with K-Love now out East and players such as Al Jefferson pushing hard for inclusion, this season may be a year or two too soon.
If he continues to develop like this and Toronto remain a play off team then All Star recognition will surely come in due course.
