    http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/09/dukes-jon-scheyer-gets-outside-shot-with-invite-to-jazz-camp.php

Jon Scheyer is one of those guys with a good game for college. Sweet shooting stroke with the spot-up jumper, was pretty efficient everywhere else and helped lead Duke to a national title. Dukies love him.

But NBA scouts were not impressed. Not athletic enough, can’t defend at that level. He can shoot but was considered one dimensional. He went undrafted.

But the Utah Jazz are giving him a shot — they have invited the guard to camp, according to the wise men at Sham Sports.

On one hand, the Jazz actually have some open roster spots if they want to carry more people. So there is that.

The problem is, let’s look at the guard rotation in Utah: Deron Williams, Ronnie Price and Sundiata Gaines all at the point; with Raja Bell, C.J. Miles and Othyus Jeffers at the two. That’s six guards deep.

Not sure how Scheyer cracks that group. Or why Utah keeps a seventh guard. He’s probably just camp fodder. But he is getting a shot.

As a Duke fan, I’m happy for him.

Cue all Utah fans saying ” Yes, we needed a guard like him!”

With them losing Korver and trading Ericl Maynor they could use some extra outside shooting, and someone to run the point off the bench, He has a shot to make the team.

Jon will make an excellent starting PG in Europe. A good idea on Utah’s behalf to give him a good look, who knows in a few years he’ll be good enough to be a backup guard in the big league.

They are also giving Earl Watson a shot at backup PG. Much better than Price. I hope he makes the team. And I heard from espn.com that Houston is interested Fez. He had better stay with the Jazz. Scheyer would also be a good Korver replacement. But he is not the next Wesley Matthews.

Schyer should out play Jeffers for a spot. Jeffers looked horrible in summer leauge. His game hasn’t progressed

Unless I changed it at the last minute, I had the Jazz drafting Scheyer in the second round. I thought he just might be a good fit. (I was wrong, obviously, but still finished 27th if I recall correctly.)

I thought Jeffers played well in Summer League.
