LSU F/C Johnny O’Bryant profiles as a 2nd round pick in this year’s draft, projected to be picked 49th overall by Jonathan Givony of Draft Express.  Attached is a scouting report of his game and some of his strengths and weaknesses.  Strengths include his length, frame and offensive versatility.  Weaknesses include shot selection and rebounding

Johnny is a big, strong dude who can actually shoot a little bit, but he hasn’t quite put it all together as a basketball player.

Every team could use a 3rd center and another big body in practice, and I’ve always been a fan of addressing that need in the 2nd round of the draft, where contracts are not guaranteed, there is no vet contract minimum, you can send a player to develop in the D-League or overseas ( Muscala ) and often get a servicable player, who in a best case develops and can play more minutes in year two.

I think Johnny is a good guy who could address those needs for a team. Probably wouldn’t take him before the last 10 picks, though because his court IQ seems a tad questionable, but you can’t argue with his physical traits, worth a late round gamble, IMO.

Still, I’d take him after Pat Young and Tarik Black if I were to rank him with some of his positional peers that offer a lot of the same things. Though, I’d definitely take him over soft Alec Brown.

with your comment about his court IQ.  His shot chart should all be within 10-15 feet of the basket and absolutely nothing outside of that.  Going on body alone, he’s basically a taller DeJuan Blair but with ACLs.  He needs to take advantage of that.  Have to think that playing closer to the basket would help him as an offensive rebounder too.
