Moon RiverParticipantI remember a few months ago, Johnny Football came out to an A&M basketball game and shot a layup either prior to the game or halftime and completely missed the layup. He was no where near the rim. He is clearly a very good athlete but I don’t think he is this good.

For_Never_EverParticipantIt’s a legit ten 10ft.
Look at how high the rim is when he is under it. He is just under 6ft.

For_Never_EverParticipantThe people saying he can’t dunk on a legit 10ft rim is because of the video of missing a layup that he wasn’t fully trying and aslo jumping off one foot.
In the dunking video it’s clear he is a two footed Dunker.

For_Never_EverParticipantNate Robinson has nowehere near the jumping ability he has going off one foot then two foot. He is almost strictly a two footed jumper.
When he was with the Celtics I saw him going off one foot for a dunk, and he actaully missed it too. The ball bounced off the back of the rim.

For_Never_EverParticipantI love how your argument is based on how you being a 5’10 white guy that can’t dunk to a college athlete that did 4th or 5th best out of the QB’s in the NFL combine. He has a 32 inch vert, hands the size of someone 6’4 and arm length 6’5.

I’m pretty sure I’m arguing with two 12 year old kids or two grown men who watch cartoons, either way I’d rather not talk shit if I have to learn anything about that geek crap. but while I’m here:
Not only would you not know if that rim was 6” shorter, in the clip, but that 1/2 foot would make all the difference. The issue is not that he is dunking, b/c people 5’10” can dunk, but that he is 360 reversing and and two handing. Even with a 33” vert there is no possible way you could dunk 360 or with two hands. The math at the bottom is makes no sense.
….and your only argument is that you saw the video on the internet and some journalist did some sketchy math at the bottom of the article. Oh wait, I forgot your best argument…..It looks like ten feet on the video. It’s amazing that you can watch that video and say it’s absolutely 10 feet based on how tall Manziel looks, as if you could tell if it was lowered 6 inches. Makes no sense. Real life isn’t a movie where sports make you a jock and computers make you a nerd. You’re on an internet forum right now but you’re this big badass so clearly there are exceptions right? How much sense does it make to base your opinion of someone on a single interest they have? Seriously, think about how stupid that is. I can watch cartoons, play basketball, get in a great lift and go out and party all in one day. I know that sounds impossible to your narrow mind but it really isn’t. Clearly at your age you are out of touch and don’t come from our more accepting generation.

HaleParticipantYes, the guy who believes in accepting others regardless of what they like is the d-bag. Makes total sense. I have no problem laughing at myself which is why I have noproblem admitting I watch cartoons. I just don’t take kindly to ignorance. So if you don’t want to be put in your place, don’t insult others because their interests are different than yours. The fact that you can’t take someone watching cartoons or throwing out a common phrase such as "have a great lift" shows an astonishing lack of maturity for a 33 year old.

You can like anything you want….cartoons, gi joe, "having a great lift" or whatever. The fact is, I think grown men watching cartoons is lame and that’s my opinion. You’re entitled to your own opinion…..but the fact that you just said you can laugh at yourself for liking cartoons, but It’s not ok for me to laugh at grown men for liking cartoons makes no sense. My archaic generation would call that being a hypocrite. By laughing at yourself, Aren’t you saying "hey, it’s kinda lame that I like cartoons and I’m 22."? So, if it’s lame according to you and lame according to me…..what’s the problem? What’s your argument? You are addressing me, as if I had insulted someones race or culture, or life circumstances. The fact is that you’ve blown this sooo out of porportion b/c I "insulted" cartoons and I showed such horrible "ignorance" towards cartoons.?.?. You truely are a champion of justice and virtue….in the basketball chat room….while discussing cartoons. Sometimes making fun is exactly that. Making fun. If you can’t step back and see how out of line your reaction is to this situation….there’s nothing more to say. I’m going to Laugh about it and move on. Regretfully, the fact that this conversation has digressed to this level doesn’t speak real highly of either of us, however, You show an astonishing lack of perspective by coming at anyone with words like ignorance and insult when your talking about watching cartoons…especially when you, yourself, say you can laugh at yourself for watching them.
And Dude, come on…."put it my place"….in a chat room. I’m hardly taking notes on life lessons in the baseketball chat room, and certainly not from some 22 yr old who thinks he has it all figured out.
That said, I’m done with this post. So you go ahead and write your next pretentious, grandiose response telling me about all the terrible things I’ve done and all my atrocious anime crimes.

Buckets21ParticipantThat’s true that his max reach would be 11’5”….if his arms grew out of his head. Personally my arms do not. You don’t add arm length to height, this was briefly talked about in the article but not enough to alter the 11’5” max reach projection.

moochieeParticipantThat is the most busted up math I’ve ever seen…take a look at the NBA Draft combine database. There are 7 footers with 30+inch verts who only have a max vertical reach of 11 foot 8 inches. Hell for example, 6′ Matt Santangelo had a 43 inch vert and his max reach was 11’5, so unless Manziel has the wingspan of an Albatross I don’t think this adds up.
Rim looks short to me.

JoeWolf1NFL only does a standing vert, so 32" is a flat footed jump. It’s not like the NBA where they measure a standing and a "max vert."
Gotta figure a low estimate with a little run is more like 36", standing reach at 8′ and all of a sudden he’s at 11′. I think he’s plenty high to finish an oop. Im more impressed with his timing, pretty good for a non basketball player.

runBruceParticipantDon’t you also have to take into account that the NFL measures jumping height without a ball in your hands to the tip of your highest finger…. Not only is your hand not enlongated when you palm a ball(because your fingers are spread) but you have to turn the ball over to get it to go through the hoop, so your wrist isn’t pointing your hand straight up. So even if it is a 36” vert, it is probably a wash…standing vs. a little run and ball vs. no ball. I don’t think it works to add up the numbers b/c we jump in a parabola not straight up(in most dunking scenarios) The writer in the article is adding inches straight up in the air. I’m not a physics guy but I don’t think that’s the right way to figure it out.

JoeWolf1I’m just saying NFL doesn’t measure a running vert like the NBA. I am in no way assuming Johhny’s running vert is on par with Oladipo or McLemore, but Victor had a 33” standing and a 42” running. Ben’s was 32” standing and 42” running. I can say personally, at his age, my running vert was about 10” higher.
Running up to get an oop, I doubt Johnny’s vert is only 32”. Again, not saying it’s 42”, but I am saying it’s higher than a flat footed jump that he measured at the NFL combine.
Maybe the rims are a tad short, but I don’t think it’s completely improbable that they aren’t.

runBruceParticipantAs always Wolf, you are a pillar of reason. Everything you say is legit….but dang, you lost 10” on your vert? I’m 33, so I guess any day now, I will be playing well below the rim. Well below.

JoeWolf1Lol, no that was a tad misleading. My standing and running had about a 10" difference. I’ll be 32 in a few months and I’m down about 4 or 5" from my hay day. I can still get up pretty well, just need more time to warm up, lol.

For_Never_EverParticipantThe NBA and NFL doesn’t do any vert jump with the ball in the prospects hands.
