This might be an unpopular opinion, but I believe John Wall might be the second best point guard in the league right now. I know most will disagree and give him the nod or even Chris Paul right now. But, his past month he’s been sensatational and being overlooked big time. He’s the 1st player since Chris Paul 09 season to average 23ppg, 12apg, 5rpg, and 2spg in a month. He’s playing out of his mind right now and develop a reliable jump shot, (I know he just shooting 34% from 3 right now).

I know the Wizards are just 15-16 right now and out of the playoff picture at this time, but they can easily go on a 5-6 winning streak and they will be in the playoffs.  I believe they fount a gem in Kelly Oubre. He’s playing better than most believe he would be. And as a Miami Heat fan I would take him over Justise Winslow. He just got to tools and skill set that are so rare and so many teams are looking for for a wing player. This team should be fine when their players get more healthy and I believe they can beat any team in the eastern conference in the players, besides Cleveland.

I agree. Sometime I want him to be a better leader than a scorer, but he has to score. he has shooters around him, once Beal and Nene get healthy they might make the playoffs. Oubre of course is gonna be good. Otto has to be consistent though

Otto Porter has actually been playing REALLY good ball lately. Earning that #2 pick billing (in a weak draft)…

People just hate John Wall because they always want him to be something he’s not. A lot of people were dissapointed that he didn’t turn into DRose/Westbrook, but he’s a very solid player, and easily an all-star level point guard. He gets assists, scores, plays decent D, and even blocks a ton of shots. He’s like the PG version of a young DWade, but without the midrange shot.

I think Wall is a great player, but he isn’t a 1A, more like a 1B type of player. If Bradley Beal can turn into a consistent go-to scorer, than Jall Wall’s job will be a lot easier. In fact it the rest of the Wizards roster just stepped up a little bit more, than John Wall would really take off. He’s surrounded by often injured, and inconsistent vets. Hard to do what he deos when you never know who’s going to show up for a game. Besides wall himself, Gortat is the only player that is really dependable in WAS, and he’s not much of a scorer these days.

I like what the Wizards are doing though, and think their young core is progressing nicely. Otto has finally shown us he was worthy of the #3 selection, and has taken a nice step forward this year averaging double-digit scoring numbers. I think the Wizards need to give him more burn at the 4 though, as 71% of his minutes have come at SF this year. Last year in the playoffs he was able to find his groove once he got to play the 4, and John Wall played great because of the added spacing and uptempo style that the Wizards play at when they go small.

I think going forward the Wizards are going to have their shot to make a deep run or two, but they need to be patient.

    Wall

    Beal

    Oubre

    Porter

    Gortat

Is a nasty core, and if Oubre and Porter can continue what they do, than that team will be fast, athletic, and have fantastic versatility and spacing. John Wall would also be the perfect PF for that team too. They just need to be patient, let the young guys decelope (Wall is still only 25, and Beal and Porter 22…). I think they need to find a good defensive 4, someone like a Taj Gibson, or just any player who is going to bring the energy defensively. That’s where I would like to see Wall step up the most, not in his shooting, but in his defensive intensity. He has the tools and ability to shut down most opposing PG’s because of his size, length, and lightning speed, but he doesn’t really utalize it to his advantage as much as he should. If Wall locked in defensively than the game would be so much easier for the rest of his team, and the Wizards would have more of an opportunity to go small.

I didn’t realize that they were only about a good winning streak away from being the 4th seed in the eastern conference.

I’m talking since the start of December. I believe Wall have been the second best point guard in the league behind Steph Curry. Wall averaging 23 and 12 since December 1

John Wall is my favorite player, and I’m just glad he’s finally proving what exactly he can do. I would say in December he might’ve been the 2nd best, but I still wouldn’t put him above Russ. I’d confidently say he’s the 3rd best point in the league though, which some people would say they’d still take CP3 and I can respect that. Also, when did 34% from 3 mean you’re not a good shooter? I know that’s not great, but that’s a decent percentage

Glad somebody made a post about this. People only talk about Wall when he’s playing like trash. Idk why they want to disapear when he’s finally doing what you’d expect him to do. The fact that he’s been able to squeeze out 10+ apg without a real roster(7-8 players have been in & out w/ injuries all year) is worth some praise. The Wizards are a healthy roster(Beal biggest lose) and a string of W’s away from getting back to normal. They still have a pretty basic offense but if they get back to a top 10 defense they were the last 2 years they’ll be fine.

My main thing about John Wall’s December is, it shows he plays better without Bradley Beal. For the season he’s almost at the amazing 20 points, 10 assists club (If you round he’s there but statistically that doesn’t count) which has only been accomplished by 7 players in history (Oscar Robertson, Tiny Archibald, Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, Kevin Johnson, Tim Hardaway, and Chris Paul). Now Washington desperately needs Bradley Beal to become a star for this team to be successful, but they are sort of in the predicament that Golden State was in before Steve Kerr got there, Klay and Curry are both amazing players, Curry the better one, but they started playing better when they got an actual offense instead of just takign turns scoring. Curry makes the game easier for Klay.

John Wall can do the same thing for Bradley. The Wizards have been letting Bradley try to create his own offense which he isn’t great at yet, neither is Klay, but Golden State does allow Klay to create, just not all of the time, the Warriors offense is about creating good shots for everyone on the floor. Their shooters help that. Washington has to do the same thing. Take the ball away from Bradley a little, let him be a shooter. John Wall surrounded by shooters is amazing, and it allows John to continue to do everything.

John Wall is one of my favorite players, I believe at this point he’s the 3rd best point guard in the league, if still say CP3 over him, I can’t argue, but if you say Kyrie or Lilliard, then I just can’t agree with you. Curry and Westbrook are the best 2 point guards in the league (Westbrook is also chasing a 20 points, 10 assists season), but John Wall is 3rd. John Wall is averaging 19.7 points, 9.9 assists, 4.1 rebounds, 2.2 steals, and 0.8 blocks. He’s going crazy. It’s possible he can finish the season averaging 20 points, 10 assists, 2 steals, a block and 4 rebounds. WOW!

For December. Wall is doing it all and he is playing like a top 5 pg right now no question. It’s no secret that Irving is my favorite pg and that I believe Paul is the best pg of his generation. I like Wall and i respect his game but I don’t respect the one sided arguments for him. Now that Wall is not winning everyone is saying he needs help but when Irving wasn’t winning it was his game is just flashy and doesn’t translate into wins. The cast that Wall has now even injury -riddled is Way better that anything Irving had Pre- Lebron.

I remember one season before All-Star break Irving was the Only one in the starting lineup averaging double figure points. The other player who was had gotten hurt but Irving caught so much flak for his team not winning but who did he have? Nene, Gortat, Beal and maybe Porter, are better than any player Irving has had Pre-Lebron. He got Deng for a half a season but that didn’t work, waiters was a cancer. Jarret Jack might have been the best player Irving had Pre-Lebron

My point simply being you can be great but you have to have some decent or good players around you to win, plain and simple. Nevertheless hats off to Wall he is doing all he can to put his team into position to win and what more can you ask. I hope he continues his tear and gets the respect he deserves. Wall gets an unfair shake as well as one poster mention that he is not Rose or Westbrook but I think he runs a team way better than both of them.

My problem with your point is that both of them came into the league with crap rosters. Comparing rosters is unfair when the Wizards started a year sooner.  Wizards already had guys like Beal and somewhat healthy Nene while the Cavs were still trying to figure it out. Wall also got flack just as much as Irving for not improving that much his first few years and Wizards being a joke. On top of that Irving came in became an all star before him and people wrote Wall off.  Wish we could talk about Wall without Irving though but that’s how it is lol

I like Wall a lot, more than most, even, but I’ll need more than a good month before I put him above Curry, Westbrook, and Paul.  He has to show he can stay healthy and consistent for longer.
