I hear people saying this needs to be his breakout season…but honestly are we putting too much pressure on the guy?

The guy career AVERAGES are 16,8,4…….A breakout season would be:

    20-22 PPG, 10-12 APG, 5-7 RPG.

When you think about it, the guy is already playing at an extremly high level, he doesn’t need a breakout season, he just needs to win a little more, and polish up the jumper and offensive skills a bit.

22 12 and 7 is absurd tho but that’s what it seems like people want him to average in order for him to reach his potential.

I think it is has more to do with his FG%, his three point shooting (or shooting in general really), his turnovers and to stay focused and be the leader and franchise player that they want him to be. Most importantly; wins.

If Wall cuts his turnovers down and averages like 18 5 and 8 on like 45% shooting I would consider that a big enough jump for one year.

Agreed, and that’s what I posted when i said(Win, jumper and polish up his Offensive skills) other than that IDK what more the people want from Wall.

No one in the NBA Averages 22 12 and 7, so that would put John Wall in an Elite category.

A breakout season would be more of a winning season for him. His stats are already nice, but he is going to have to start winning and now he has a few solid players around him so there shouldn’t be any more excuses. He could put up the same stats as last season and if he gets in the playoffs it will probably be considered a breakout season for him.

ofcourse 22 12 7 is absurd. who says that? but 20 8 4 + playoffs is attainable esp when youre a top pick.

20,8,4, he’s already doing that basically, minus 2 baskets per game.

The playoffs is a different story, Wall can be a leader as much as he want’s but his teammates have to play to their abilities as well, it shouldn’t fall all on Wall’s shoulders if Washington doesn’t make the playoffs.

I don’t really care about his raw stats. Sometimes it’s hard to improve on raw stats that were accumulated on a bad team.  I’d rather just see some improvement in his game as far as being better in the halfcourt (in particular, running the PnR), being more efficient, turning the ball over less, being a better leader and decision maker..

If he does that, his team will win more games and he’ll be held in higher esteem.

no. i said 20,8,4 PLUS playoffs. you first said 20-22 10-12 5-7. and then step assumed the 22 12 7. thats huge difference when 20 10 5 is already a progress. i dont think thats a different story since its his team. sounds like he’s not a leader if he cant set an example on that team plus the so called hindrance teammates are gone. no excuses..

     20,8,4

    16,8,4

    ?

How can you put the blame on Wall is Washington fails to make the playoffs? What if an injury occurs? What if they’re just not good enough? It’s all Wall’s fault? No, some of the blame may go to him  but not all of it, it takes more than just one person to make the playoffs.

Wall has solid stats, its not the stats…..There have been players that coaches have voted into All-Star games with his stats…Its his overall play…..

The fact he hasn’t been consistent, hasnt shown any improvement from his rookie year….He still struggles in halfcourt and his jumper is shaky…I heard he’s been working this summer with a shooting coach to improve his shooting…Some people haven’t noticed it,but he doesnt have a very good offensive game….He’s not that polished offensively….He score most of his points in transition or by beating people off the dribble..In a way he’s very similar to Derrick Rose when he 1st came in the league….But Rose has added a bunch of go to moves on the offensive end and has improved his shot….Wall has the raw talent to be a top 5 player in the league…If he finds a ways to untap it….

again who says its his lone fault? what im pointing is he’s not a true leader if he cannot lead this team to a playoff. but hell, i still think they wont make it this year. i just dont think he is that good to be a superstar caliber that some people see in him.

You don’t even have to go that far.  He’s not a leader if he’s a PG, the player who’s supposed to lead the offense, and he can’t even perform well in the halfcourt.

that 4 point difference may come off the crunch time. the final minute. free throw. a game winner. its huge difference. i dont like it when people predict stats and then put a margin. like when someone predicted gilcrist stats to put up 10-14pts 5-8rebs 1-2 stls. wtf?? sure lol… why not 5-20 , 1-10, 0-2. include the mins played if u put up margin at least

The Wizards was simply not a serious team with Blatche, Mcgee and Young. Now that they’re gone, this team seem to actually have an identity with solid role players to accompany Wall.

Wall is the leader of this team. That’s what the Wizards expect, and rightfully so. There have been concerns, that he may have been affected by the previous ‘knucklehead culture’. At times he comes across as petty and immature. Now these concerns should not be overblown seeing how the season hasn’t even started yet. But I don’t think it’s wrong to put pressure on JWall. It’s his time to shine… meaning the team needs to win with him leading the charge. Stats are not something that can necessarily capture this, it’s how he runs the team.

I’m rooting for him, but he needs to show serious developments in game management this next season.

People saying he needs to average 22 ppg,11-12 ast, and 5 rebs need to realize that those numbers are numbers he could possibly put up in his prime. Wall just turned 22 and is just getting ready to start year 3 in the NBA after a lockout year with his first real offseason. 19 ppg, 9 apg, 4 rpg and an 8th seed or just barely missing the playoffs is more realistic this year. But i agree he’s not going to breakout if the Wizards are still losing

I want to see his scoring go up about 2ppg, assists and rebounds about 1 a game. I want to see his turnovers drop about 1 or so and his shooting % to be around 45. The biggest thing is playing lockdown defense because he is capable and leading this team to a 500 record and a playoff push. They’re still extremely young when it comes to their core guys. I just want to see competitiveness with Wall and that team.

    PG- Wall

    SG- Beal

    SF- Ariza

    PF- Nene

    C- Okafor

    Bench- Crawford, Vesely, Singleton, Seraphin

That team looks like it should contend for a 6-8 seed, but there is a much better chance of the 2013 Wizards ending up a top 5 pick than them winning a playoff series.  With that being said, I think if Wall can put up 17-8-4 with shooting splits of 45/33/80 and drop the turnovers down below 3 a game then we will all agree he (as an individual) had a good season.

with the improved roster imo the to will drop this year with blatche javale and young gone all of whom at times were lost on the court and wall would throw a nice pass and there it goes bouncing off their faces or chests to wall because they were lost in the sauce

I say he puts up another 1-2ppg and increases shooting% and he will be very successful. The big thing is the W’s.

I think festar has it right, he’s not going to put up more than 18ppg on that roster. People forget that Wall is a pass-first point guard like Rondo. With a roster that is loaded with talent at the 4/5 I think they will play a slower pace than usual and Wall’s numbers won’t take a huge jump. That said, if anything is going to go up it’ll be his assist numbers, I can see him getting at least 10apg this season, and with better FG%.

Honestly, what I need to see from Wall is defensive intensity, better body language, better FG% and more tempo control. He doesn’t need to score huge numbers like Rose, he’s got capable scorers/shooters at every position now, this is where he can really thrive by picking his moments, attacking in transition and creating in the half-court. If he does those things, I think the wins will come. It comes down to whether or not their coach can gel this roster together in a hurry, because on paper it’s ready for a low playoff seed right now, with room to grow into a Indiana-level team with more seasoning from their young players in Beal, Wall, Vesely and Seraphin.
