Disrespect_MeParticipantUNC using 6-10 freshman Henson at small forward
by Mike DeCourcyFriday, Oct. 30, 2009 – 1:55 p.m. ET
Many freshmen are expected to make a profound impact on the 2009-10 season, but only John Henson is likely to begin the season as a starter for the defending NCAA champions.Henson, a 6-10 forward, is getting most of the run at small forward for North Carolina’s first unit. He has the build of former Texas All-American Kevin Durant — and lived for a time in the Austin area — so Henson has frequently been compared to the former Longhorn. Henson doesn’t shoot the ball like Durant, though, which is why his placement at small forward will be interesting.
Henson is a good enough ballhandler and passer to play on the perimeter. He has a great feel for the game. He’ll be asked to defend some shorter players, but the starting small forward for rival Duke, Kyle Singler, almost can look him in the eye. So Henson might be right in his element.
“I would hate playing against John,” Tar Heels point guard Larry Drew said. “He’s a mismatch problem — anytime, anywhere. He’s 6-10, he’s long, he’s fast, he can shoot. There’s not too much that John can’t do.

JNixonParticipantYea he’s extremely talented, I think he has the ability to be the best player in the 09 class when its all said and done. Like Larry Drew said, there isn’t alot he cant do. He just has to get stronger and put on weight.

JNixonParticipantHe shows wayyyyy more basketball skills than Brandan Wright. Wright is basically a great athlete trying to play basketball. He only has one skill that he’s relatively good at and that’s making jump hooks. Henson has the potential to be able to play PG-PF. Wright is a PF through and through.

quincey hodgesare you sure about that iggy..we are basing it off what breden did in hs since henson hasnt played a game in college or the pros yet..he has more wing skills i will give you that but hes not on bredens level in the post when brendon was in hs

JNixonParticipantI stand by everything I said. It doesn’t matter if you have good post ability when your not strong enough to hold position. Henson isn’t going to be a back to the basket post man anyway, he’s going to be the SF for UNC. Which shows that he’s already more perimeter oriented than Wright ever once since Wright was strictly a low post player. Almost like comparing apples to oranges.
