So, I’m really thinking if I was a GM I’d take him over Randle. His movement on the court is so fluid, he is so active, his arms are so long. I just think his upside is too great to pass up.

You’ll probably get neg’d for this,  but I agree. He has great vision on offense, is going to be a great defender, plus he looks like he can add a few pounds and be a force inside.

I don’t know if I’d go that far… but Emiid is playing this game very good he has 10 pts 9 rebounds but he runs the floor so well and is very fluid like you said. I wouldn’t take him over Wiggins,Parker,Randle, or maybe Smart (depending on team needs) but Emiid should definitely go top 5/6 and develop into a top NBA big.

I wouldn’t take him over Wiggins, Parker, Randle, nor Smart. I love Embiids upside but upside is what gets GMs fired. Randle, Parker, Wiggins, and Smart are all sure fire contributors in the NBA. I need to see more of Embiid first but it’s early.

Most people don’t know this but Joel has only been playing basketball since he was 16….that’s 2 years and he already looks like an overall good player I would have him 4th on my big board behind Wiggins, parker, and Exum but if Randle can cut down on turnovers he will be up with them too. as a bucks fan im just hoping for a top 5 pick to land any of these players.

How is he any different from Biyombo or Thabeet ?

I understand he has only played two or three years, but how could you put him top 3 or top 5 in this draft ?

That is a HUGE HUGE risk. As Chilbert said this is the sorta thing that gets GM’s fired…

He’s different from them two cause he has a pretty good post game for not knowing how to play the post… plus he runs the floor and moves fluidly in the offense the way Biyombo and Thabeet never could.

Biyombo and thabeet were more of defensive players and known for not having an offensive game which embiid has already shown us more than those 2 ever did. He had 5 assists vs duke and tonight he went 7 for 7

and it is a huge risk but it comes down to risk vs reward and most gms would wanna try and land a superstar.

What do you mean most people don’t know he’s only been playing since he was 16? They brought it up at least 3 times last Tuesday. Jordan Hill didn’t play basketball till he was 16 as well and turned into a pretty solid NBA player, but it took him a while to get to this point and it doesn’t mean Embiid is the next Olajuwon. I’m not trying to knock the kid I just think it’s absurd that someone would suggest taking him over Randle or even Smart.

Drafting guys with upside is not what gets GM’s fired, what gets them fired is drafting tweeners.

What a game for Joel. 16/13/2 on 7-7 shooting, but its how he does stuff that’s truly scary. He gets off the ground so quick, runs the floor like a deer, and for a player as raw as he is, he’ll bust out high difficulty scoops, and take guys off the dribble. Iona is not a huge team, but they are a quality squad and Joel gets better every game. I don’t want to get ahead of my self, but he could be the top pick in 14′ if he continues to improve at this rate.

He blew me away tonight, and he hasn’t played ball as long, but looks better than Drummond or Adams 3 games into their college careers.

Im sorry, but this is ridiculous. Embiid starting playing like what, three years ago? Julius Randle is not a tweener, he is a first class power forward that happens to  have the skills to be able to play small forward. If Randle was actually a tweener, like Beasley or Williams, than the story would be different. Obviously as the season goes on we will know more, but choosing Embiid over Randle as of right now is outrageous. Whoever thinks Randle is a tweener must not be watching UK’s games. Just because Randle has the size/post game of a power forward and can shoot and move like a small forward does not mean he is a tweener. A tweener does not average 14 rebounds per game. You might as well say that you would take Embiid over Wiggins, which is just as outrageous as saying you would take him over Randle.

This made me laugh. I don’t think Randle is a tweener (like Beasley) but you said a tweener doesn’t average 14 boards a game. Through Michael Beasley’s first 5 college game he actually averaged an incredible 16.6 rebounds per game. He finised his freshmen season at 12.4 rebounds per game. It was only once he got to the NBA he wanted to be a wing player.

It all depends on how Embiid improves this year. If he shows significant improvement in IQ and post scoring by the end of the season- I have no problem taking him over Randle. It’s obviously a gamble, but he’s that rare of a physical specimen.

The comparisons to Biyombo are completely off base. Embiid already has far greater ball skills than Biyombo ever displayed.

But after saying all that, if Embiid doesn’t improve significantly then I wouldn’t touch him until the 6th or 7th pick.

I’m extremely excited about Embiid and I’d honestly think about taking him as high as 3rd at this moment. Footwork, fluidity, athleticism, confidence, everything is pointing up for him.
