Is it officially safe to say that Joel Embiid may become the next Greg Oden in a sense of not staying healthy?

He’s terribly close, I’d wait one more year. Greg Oden didn’t play from 23 to 25. Embiid is 22, so I’d wait a little more before I’m sure.

It’s safe to say that relying on Embiid to be your franchise player is a longshot and huge risk.

Yeah people act like Joel played 30 games smh. He olnly played like 26. Dude is injury prone and Sixers have to be thankful they didnt trade Okafor

He played 31 games. And Okafor is one of the worst players in the NBA

while I don’t think he plays another NBA game, don’t compare him to greg Oden. Even when Oden was healthy he wasn’t a fraction of the player Embiid was in those 30 games. Embiid was the best player to come in the league since LeBron, singlehandedly rejuvenated the franchise only to singlehandedly steal those fans hearts. But when Oden was healthy he wasn’t near Embiid.

I hope it isn’t true but you do wonder. Joel seems to be having these ongoing injury issues and he was playing a very reduced schedule when he was fit. How his body will respond to a full season we still don’t know.

But when he played he was amazing, being dominant on defence and having a lovely scoring range. He was hitting 3 pointers with the sort of assurance that Dirk does and one game he took the ball, took a step back beyond the line and hit the 3 pointer with the sort of fluidity you’d have associated with Ray Allen not a 7 foot plus guy.

It will be interesting to see if the 76ers look to extend him this summer or not. It could be a risk either way, putting guaranteed money on someone who could break down again or if they wait a year and Embeast plays 70 games next year putting up 23/10 then his value goes much higher. My cautious side says give him a slightly lower offer with team option or two and see if he’ll bite. With his durability issues, his advisors may say take what you can when it is offered.

Could the 76ers do an appearance based deal, say $10 million basic and $100K per appearance perhasps?

It is interesting that you compare him to Oden when right now he has almost the same injury as Kevin Durant. Nobody is asking if KD will ever play again. Of course Embiid will play again but will he be able to stay healthy at all..if he doesn’t play at least half their games next year I will be upset but you have to consider this team will be fighting for a playoff spot but won’t be a contender for another couple years with a healthy roster.

The Sixers have no intention on winning again this season and for good reason. The more ping pong balls the better. They have babied Embiid for several different reasons during the process but he personally might have been better getting playing time sooner to work off the rust.

I see why people are making the comparison, but I don’t see it due to the difference/severity in injuries. Remember… Greg Oden had microfracture surgery due to damage to his articular cartilage. He had one leg that was longer than the other (could’ve been responsible for the back issue medical flag that was raised before the draft). He broke a kneecap just jumping.

We cant compare Joel Embiid to Oden yet because his injuries aren’t even close to being as severe as Oden’s. I was a huge fan of Oden and it’s unfortunate but that man’s body began to break down before he got to the NBA.

I don’t remember Oden getting any all star votes.

There is a huge difference in that Oden has never been a relevant NBA player.

Even if he ends up playing less, I guess he would be closer to Andrew Bynum, in the sense that he has shown dominance in the NBA prior to premature end of career.

I sure hope that’s not the case and he comes back healthier and becomes able to play 60+ games a year for a decade.

The structure to last a NBA season. You watch him play and you always know its a play away. Nothing will change. Next season will be his last. Kid had great potential but the body has shown it struggles to hold up playing that game. It won’t.
