Meditated StatesParticipantThey gave him a lot of money wich he was not worth. Has he packed it in now that he got his money or just a slow start?

immaletufinishbutParticipantThis will probably go down as if not the worst, one of the worst signings in SPORTS history. He is clearly a sidekick, you never give a sidekick max money, when he was in phoenix, he was a third sometimes fourth option, thats why they didnt give him the money…………………..

boxn1ParticipantHe is playing about the same type of ball as he has the past 2-3 seasons. Sure the hawks outbid themselves, by about 35 million, but im happy for the guy, i hope i get overpaid for my good performance at work soon

JNixonParticipantLarry Drew II has run an offense that distributes the ball more than the Hawks used to with Coach Woodson. Joe has had less isolation opportunities and he also doesn’t have the ball in his hands as much, Mike Bibby and Jeff Teague run the offense and have the ball more this season in the new offense. I can’t say that I’m mad it’s playing out this way either. The Hawks needed more structure in their offensive schemes anyway. They were too unorganized and too much 1-on-1 with Coach Woodson.
Johnson’s numbers have gone down, but its more of a sacrificial thing and adjustments due to a change of scheme more than him being less effective as a player.

Meditated StatesParticipantDoes his team look like they are improving? They have loss 6 of their last 8 and he is their leader.

mj23mj23besteverParticipantimo know they coudlnt just let their best player go yes they over paid him but if they let him go they are much much worse off with out him then with him imo this hawks team is a decent c away from being an elite team a legit c allows horford to move to the 4 and j smooth to the 3 which is their natural positions imagine how bad horford would dominate 4s hes getting it down now being an undersized c

doubledribblerParticipantThe reason other guys are putting up better numbers is because the offense doesn’t revolve only around Johnson. I’m glad other guys are getting to touch the ball more, especially Horford and Smith. I think if you are a really good player that when you have to "sacrifice" shots, that you end up being more effecient and not less effecient. He’s shooting in the low 40s from the field and in the low 20s from 3. You can say it’s still early, but we are more than an 8th of the way through the season and he’s really not good enough to just turn it on. As far as the money goes, I don’t think he just packed it in. I believe that he knew he was likely going to get the max or close to it no matter what, but the Hawks went crazy. I think he is what he is and you probably won’t see him doing too much of anything noteworthy unless he ever ends up playing next to an Elite point guard or a dominate perimeter scorer that opens up shots for him.

sacphil_08ParticipantJohnson shouldve gone to dallas with dirk and then he’d have found his niche perfectly and dirk could finally feel like he has a legitimate sidekick. Johnson hasnt taken a lesser approach, its exactly what was said earlier which is the change of offensive scheming. Everyone has to adjust. Theyll make the playoffs but they just wont be good enough to be orlando or boston. its not joe johnsons fault either. its just that those teams are better with better pieces, coaching, talent etc. Get johnson a legit scorer at the 4 position or a guy besides marvin williams that can live up to the hype or a PG besides mike bibby that isnt good for just pick and rolls or set jumpers. Its never been his fault, they just havent had the necessary elements to get it done in the east

hussamgaParticipanthe hurt his hand a f ew games back, nothing more specific. Affecting his floaters and shots in traffic mostly. But yah, his scoring has been down slightly with horford and smith finding open jumpers over last few games.

ChrischiParticipantAccepting that huge paycheck already showed that he doesn’t really care about winning. He knew that his team would never stand a chance to compete for a title. most of their guys have pretty much hit their maximum. Guys like the "Three Kings" and Dirk took less.
But it’s hard to really blame him. It’s not his fault that Atlanta threw that money at him.
