prophetmeirParticipantSaw that Nets and Charlotte are in disscussion to send Joe johnson to Hornets for lance stephenson and Gerald Henderson. This shows that the Hornets are in win now mode and Mike probally sees this year as one of best times to come out of the east. For nets its a great trade shed salary and get a guy in gerald henderson who has a great glue guy. I think for the Hornets this makes them better overall but still not better than the elite in East

joe2324ParticipantThe nets are still screwed. They dump some salary, but overall its a wash, probably makes them worse which in turn makes it better for Atlanta.
The Nets are the new poster child for "how to SCREW UP Your francise for a decade" I thought Isiah Thomas was bad, but I think Billy King is doing the impossible and he somehow managed to screw up worse than Isiah Thomas with the Knicks.
Nets fans, the Knicks are still feeling the effects of the Isiah Thomas era. This one is going to hurt for a long time.
Each person on this forum without having any background in managing an NBA team could have done a better job than Billy King with all the experience he has. Its pathetic. I feel bad for Nets fans because I know the pain of throwing your future away as a Knicks fan because we did such a great job of it for over a decade. We’ll actually have a FIRST ROUND pick in the lottery as long as we keep losing and don’t do anything stupid with this draft pick.

IndianaBasketballParticipantSince the Nets are looking to dump salary, it’d be a great move for them. Joe Johnson is owed $25M next season. Call me an idiot, but I still believe in Lance Stephenson. I’m aware of all of the issues this season (shooting percentage, especially off of the catch, injuries, defense slipping, poor body language, etc). However, with all of that he’s still averaging 10 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. I just don’t think the Hornets were ever a good fit. It remains to be seen how he’d handle playing in Brooklyn, but I still believe in him. IF he doesn’t work out, he’s basically an expiring contract next season. I also think Gerald Henderson is a solid player. The Nets could also use him as an expiring contract next season if need be.
For the Hornets, I think it makes them a lot better offensively. Even though Johnson is struggling with knee issues right now, he’ll bring more leadership/professionalism to the table. Where he’ll really help is spacing the floor and shooting off of the catch. He’s shooting 39% from deep in catch and shoot situations this season. The ball can stick in his hands at times, but I think he’ll fit alongside Al Jefferson and Kemba Walker just fine.
The Hornets need to get back to defending like they were last season though if they want to stay in the playoffs and possibly move up a couple of spots.

Make’Em Say UGHParticipantI’ve been patient with Lance throughout the season and figured he would turnaround eventually. So far he has not. I understand he is an all-around player but from the lone scoring aspect he has not lived up to the expectations.
Scoring:
15 or more points = Four occasions.
20 or more = Once. (Scored exactly 20 points)
Perspective:
Klay has more points in his last 2 games than Lance does all year (lol just a hyperbole) but you get my drift.
I still believe in the kid no doubt, but maybe they’re right. Maybe he’s just not a good fit for Charlotte.
How high of a pick do you think Charlotte would be able to get from Lance, if they traded on draft night?

TripleDoubleScoutParticipantLots of fans of over the hill average defenders i guess. I won’t bother with the details of why this is another desperation move by Jordan and co.

MopgrassParticipantI really don’t get why Charlotte would do this. They’d be paying an extra 4 or 5 million to get rid of Stephenson. Joe Johnson is 33, injured, and shooting 36%. Yes, he can spread the floor, so he’s a better fit… but I don get why they have to throw in Generald Henderson (other than to make the numbers work). Stephenson, overall, is better than Joe Johnson. Charlotte’s record might be able to be maintained if they don’t include Henderson.
I’d propose they involve another team:
Lakers Get: SG Karasev, SG Gary Neal
Hornets Get: Joe Johnson
Nets Get: PF/C Jordan Hill, SF Stephenson, PF Williams
This way, the Hornets give up less quality. If they want to trade Henderson, they can get more for him (a shooting SF?). The Nets end up with the most talent. Jordan Hill’s contract expires (there’s a team option) so the Nets can grab a free agent in the offseason. Teletovic is done for the year and Hill would help this year. The Lakers get to get a little younger.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantMakes sense for both teams. Charlotte is one of the worst outside shooting teams in the league, and Johnson is a proven outside shooter who will help space the floor for players like Jefferson and Walker to operate. While his contract sucks, it is coming off the books after next season anyway. Stephenson clearly was a terrible fit and although Henderson is a solid energy guy, you can’t really play two wings together in him and Kidd-Gilchrist who can’t shoot. Johnson could slightly improve their team, but I really doubt that it vaults them into contender status.
Brooklyn is in serious touble financially, so any trade that they can make to shed salary is probably a bonus for them right now. They rid themselves of Johnson’s atrocious contract and get a player in Stephenson that, despite his struggles this season, was a borderline All-Star last year on a relatively inexpensive deal. Maybe he can regain that form with a change of scenery.

turkeysubParticipantI like Joe Johnson, but he’s not going to get them into the playoffs. He is better than Tyreke Evans though and is a better fit. They would need to get some sweeteners to go for that deal though.

gopack10ParticipantI wrote a little something about this earlier today (below). To answer the original point, I don’t see why this makes sense for either team. I mean Joe Johnson is making $25M next year and the salaries that the Nets would get back would be $22M. Not that big of a salary dump. Marvin, Stephenson and Henderson aren’t the type of pieces you "rebuild" around in Brooklyn. If I’m the Nets I’m moving Johnson for draft picks. For the Hornets, Joe doesn’t make them better considering the pieces you give up for him.

jrrider_34ParticipantPutting the 8th Grader in Brooklyn would be rad… But he never did fit in Charlotte, even from the jump. He either needs to be tightly shackled from someone he respects or set totally free on the court, and niether the Nets or the Hornets can provide that.
So here is the deal; Born Ready and a protected first for MCW.

CynthiaParticipantThis makes no sense at all, the Nets called off the original trade between Hornets & OKC because they said they were no longer interested in Lance Stephenson. Now they are again?

IndianaBasketballParticipantThe Hornets should keep Stephenson since Walker could possibly miss the remainder of the season if they decide his meniscus will be repaired, instead of just trimmed/cut out.
Coach Clifford seems to think Walker is a superstar and his loss will be similar to the Cavs losing LBJ or the Thunder losing KD (lol), but I believe that if he put the ball in Stephenson’s hands and used Neal/Roberts to space the floor… The Hornets could stay in the playoff race. I like Kemba Walker, but I don’t think he’s THAT good.

Lotto StudParticipantPull the trigger is all I can say at the moment. We absolutely have nothing to lose. I have anticipation for low expectations with either direction as we all see the unfold February 19th.
