gopack10ParticipantJust saw this article on the News Feed about a potential reuniting with Horford and Teague in Atlanta.
http://soaringdownsouth.com/2016/01/08/if-bought-out-should-hawks-pursue-joe-johnson/
As a Hawks’ fan I’d love if cause we are in dire need of help on the wing, just don’t know if we could pry him away from teams like Cleveland and OKC if he is actually bought out.
What do you guys think?

Arc12345ParticipantTHAT WOULD BE WONDERFUL.
That’s the kind of wing and scoring we need! That’s what I’m talking about. Just don’t overpay him again…But with that addition, I think it would CLEARLY make us the 2nd best team in the East. Yes ahead of Chicago, Wizards, etc. just don’t overpay him again…

RUDEBOY_Participantsurprisingly memphis tried to get him last summer.but his huge contract was a problem.if he gets a buyout, they might be a landing spot for him..the clippers might be another team.

tblazer_NZParticipantThose two teams were my first thoughts as well. His shooting has been off but He probably would work that out in a new environment. He could start for either of those teams. Clippers really need a good 3 and he has the size to do so at 6’7 240. Memphis could despritely use his scoring especally down the stretch at the end of games where he has shown to be a clutch scorer.

gopack10ParticipantEvery contender in the league would be stupid not to try and add him to the roster for a playoff run. He’s battle tested and can still contribute on the defensive side of the ball. He’s still a capable enough scorer, just not a guy who can carry the load.
4th option on a good team would suit him really well.
I think he ends up in Cleveland but I’d love to see him back in Atlanta.

Mr.JoshuaParticipantAccording to Zach Lowe’s podcast he is a traffic cone defensively. Seems like a famous name only at this point.

ballislyfe25ParticipantThe Nets shouldn’t buy him out and can’t afford to tank with Boston having their pick. Johnson is basically going to control the half court offense with Jack out for the year. Is there any real upside to buying out JJ besides not having to pay his full salary?

MopgrassParticipantBoston has to be praying Johnson is bought out. Nets would lose more without him and might "catch" the Lakers.
There are only two reasons to buy him out: 1) save money 2) let younger guys who are part of their future play together more.

OhCanada-ParticipantJJ is terrible. His shooting percentage is atrocious and his effectiveness is as bad as it’s ever been and only getting worse. He’s averaging 11 ppg and 36% game with 35-mpg. He maybe able to efficiently fill a rotation position but he won’t be able to improve the Hawks.

Hype MachineIf Joe Johnson is available you scoop him up.
Play him as much or as little as the situation demands.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantJust a hypothetical but if the nets are serious about buying him out and he really wants to pursue a championship he should consider reaching out to the spurs. He might be able to contribute some down the stretch because San Antonio has a tendency to rest their key players periodically. Not sure how much he would be a part of the playoff rotation, but it would give him a legitimate chance to win a championship and it gives San Antonio another battle-tested veteran at their disposal if needed.

HitsterParticipantJoe would be an excellent pick up for virtually any play off team. The Cavs would be an attractive spot for him.the Thunder could use his experience too. The Clippers would seem another good choice. I wonder if a canny team like the Spurs might go in for him if he was brought out too.
He was a legend in Atlanta so returning there could be an option for him too.
I also wonder if he might try a shot at a less likely team as he can easily move onto a legit contender in the summer.
The Knicks need bench depth and experience and he would not need to uproot himself either.
