BogDon_KryptParticipantI truly don’t understand this. Was this to keep a large market interested b having a player in the game? I guess Toronto already has derozan, pacers have two players, and nobody cares about Orlando. Johnson is already the most overpaid player, now he’s the worst all star. I guess it’s good for the pacers because now maybe they can afford lance as he can’t pull the all star card.

nick5354ParticipantAt one point I remember him being one of the most underatted players in the league, now he is one of the most overatted if coaches still believe he is an all star. Low PER for an all star, not scoring highly on very very average shooting numbers. I mean 15/3.5/3 on 43% FG and a PER of below 15 doesn’t scream all-star.
Lowry has been on a TEAR this year. He has played very very good basketball, and far more deserving. He has dropped 17/4/7.5 on the season. In the weak East, he is playing at an all-star level, further demonstrated by his PER of 20+. ESPECIALLY coming off two 30 point games it is crazy he got snubbed for Johnson.
And what is even crazier is Raps have the better record. They are sitting nicely at 3 in the East where as Nets are 7???? Normally when you have an All-Star snub one reason is the other guy gas lead his team to a better record, but this is not the case, and a further reason why Lowry desveres it over Johnson
Lance was also much better then Johnson on the season so far. He has been pretty effiect almost at 50FG% and stuffing the stat sheet in all aspects of the game. Would give the edge the Lowry (just) but still either of these guys would be better then Johnson!!
This has to be one of the biggest head scratches in terms of coaches All-Star picks I have seen,
I don’t know, maybe I am missing something…..

TallmanNYCParticipantYes, this was the big market team getting the benefit of the doubt. Also the voters were swayed by the Nets huge run in 2014. Johnson also plays good defense. It isn’t really the type of defense you notice because it doesn’t lead to blocks, steals or rebounds. But basically he containts his man pretty nicely.
Anyway, this is based on Johnson being able to score a lot in the 1st quarter and being, frankly, pretty ridiculous in the last few minutes over the course of the last year and half. This was kind of an All Star nomination on the basis of being clutch. And also because the Nets are huge market and frankly on a noticeable run as folks are filling out their All Star ballots.
PER is a stat based nearly entirely on how many shots a player takes during the course of a game. As long as you shoot better than 30% (and nearly every player in the league shoots better than 30%) your PER goes up with every shot you take. It is not a meaningful basketball stat. It just somehow got traction and now people know it. No one in the league uses it for anything. So don’t use it as an argument. Not saying you are wrong, but JJ’s PER score doesn’t make any difference one way or another. JJ’s PER would be higher if he didn’t play with a bunch of scorers and everyone knows that.

theballerwayParticipantThat selection is just non-sense. Its a slap in the face to guys like Lowry and Stephenson who I kind oof thought was a lock as the third Pacer on the Team.
Politics and BS
Joe is a baller butthis certainly is not his year. Look at his stats compared to past years. Then the teams awful record ontop of that. Just dissapointing was pulling for Lance
