There’s a rumor Jimmy B would be open to signing with the Lakers next year, per another site.

If true, and Thibs knows he’s not going to be able to sign him, I hope he has enough smarts to make a trade with the Lakers or any other team that he might like to go to.

If trading to the Lakers they could try and get Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma and another player to match salary plus a draft pick or two.

It’s already been rumored somewhere that Boston might be interested in Butler, with Rozier and Smart going to the T Wolves plus Sacramento’s first round pick that’s owed to them.

There might be other teams out there that might want to get Butler in a deadline deal.

This is going to be interesting to watch as the season starts and as it goes on to the deadline.

If the lakers are confident that they can sign butler in free agency, they aren’t going to give up that much to get him in a trade. And I think they are still viewing kawhi as their primary target. Butler would be more of a fall back option.

If I’m LA I’m making a trade if there is a player out there, surely the whole PG thing shows that they can’t just expect players to want to sin there. In saying that I ain’t giving up Brandon Ingram for a talent like Butler as good as he is. If it were for an Anthony Davis type then go all in on Ingram, Kuzma & Ball, but look at the recent PG trade and Kawhi trade. An All-Star level talent (Oladipo wasn’t at time but Pritchard saw something there) & a young prospect.

Lakers don’t have an All-Star to give up, but the talent could be Kuzma and young prospect their pick. People need to realise that teams are not throwing everything at a guy on an expiring deal.

Yea. Thibs can Reunite with Luol Deng and toss in Josh Hart and a Future 1st Rd pick. The same package they would have gave For pg13 if  pg13 wanted to go the CP3 route. Nothing more, nothing less

The Lakers might be prepared to wait but if they could do the deal now the team would be very competitive. Waiting may make sense but LBJ turns 34 this year and will be 35 by time of 2019-20 season finals so you risk missing winning chances during his time in LA.

Do the Lakers have enough money to sign both Leonard and Butler next summer? If not, it makes sense to obtain Butler by trade now and create a superteam with Kawhi for 2019-20.

But I would be worried about the miles on Butler given the minutes he’s played (the curse of Tom Thibodeaux). I don’t think I would offer Ingram for him, for that reason. If I were LA I’d wait and see how the team looks with LeBron. If they’re top-three in the West, approaching the trade deadline, with the roster they have now it would be hard to break that up even for Butler.

A lot of you seem to be thinking it doesn’t make sense for LA to go after Butler until after the season. That might be to late. Boston has already been rumored to want him. And if there is a suprise team that is moving up the standings and needs to make a move they too would might be interested.

Plus any team trading for him would also be able to give a max contract if they wanted to. So that would be an insentive also.

A lot of Jimmy Butler’s trade value would depend on which teams would consider they have a legit chance of resigning him and if they would have cap space or be prepared to pay any luxury tax as Jimmy’s next deal will likely be at over $30 million a year.

Jimmy has played the majority of his career under Thibs who clearly gets the best out of him. But Jimmy probably wants to be on a legit contender as he turns 29 next month and must be near his peak. The T-Wolves speeded up their rebuilding process by trading for him and Thibs would likely want fair value back but as Jimmy could be a FA next summer, the clock is ticking down.

There are rumours he would like to join the Lakers so Thibs would want a decent return. Ingram would likely be at the top of his list as I feel he’d want no part of Lonzo Ball circus.

There is two ways this could go down:

option 1) Thibs allows Butler to a Carmelo(talk to the lakers before deal) and the get a feel if he would re-up longterm and both teams make a respectable offer: Something like Hart,Ball and Ingram for Butler and an average deal.

    or

    2) Thibs goes the OKC/Cavs route and asks Butler what he wants to make it happen for he to re-up longterm.
