With all this news that the Lakers want to trade the top pick for either Paul George or some other star just reeks of desperation in terms of Jim Buss. He is on record saying he will leave if the lakers don’t make a playoff push and this is his only way. Is anyone else aware that Ben Simmons has been working out with Lebron during these playoffs. Watching court side taking it in and learning. LAKERS PLEASE DRAFT SIMMONS. They need to fire Jim before he sets the franchise back even more.

All the Jim Buss hate is a little misguided in my opinion.  He’s made 3 poor mistakes.  Most of the other mistakes are in hindsight which is always 20/20.  Traded for Chris Paul then basketball reasons.  Traded for Dwight Howard and gave up basically nothing only to have Kobe run the help out of town.  At the time Dwight was considered the best big in the game.  Scored Clarkson with the 46th pick which is an absolute steal.  Traded for Nash, which is another mistake in hindsight.

By all accounts he has nailed the draft.  You could argue Porzingis over Russell but he made the right pick in taking Russell over Okafor.  Larry Nance JR was an excellent pick.

He hasn’t wasted money on pointless free agents outside of Nick Young and maybe Lou will.

It’s like the majority of Laker fans are so spoiled and genuinely believe that top ten players are available at all times just because we are the Lakers.  This is not reality.  The league has smartened up.

Outside of the coaching hires he has been an average to above average decision maker.  If it wasn’t for Magic Johnson constantly bad mouthing him on social media fans wouldn’t make him the target.  Most fail to see Johnson’s obvious motives of trying to put enough outside pressure on the Buss’s for them to sell the team.

What you’re just so excited for Jim Buss to get fired to bring in his inevitable replacement Phil Jackson?  Who seems that only content on having success if it can be done through the triangle….to the point where he is really considering Kurt Rambis as a coach.  Because that’s who we are going to get if Buss is gone.

Buss is far from perfect and he’s definitely made some mistakes,  most decision makers do.  But the notion that LA could be so much better off right now with someone else running it is false.  There are no shortcuts in the NBA anymore for Buss or any other GM/ PBO.  Laker fans want the impossible and it drives me crazy.

BTW, I would probably trade Ingram for George.  Simmons would be a little harder.

Magic Jordan – that is the truth!

Paul George would be a great add though — tough call there.

Ive got a theory on Simmons.

He didnt shoot in college so it gave him the power to sabotage his own draft stock. I swear I saw him shoot plenty in HS and LSU preseason games.

If he doesnt like the team with the #1 pick, he can clang every jumper in workouts and no one will suspect a thing.

If he does like them, he will shoot better than expected and lock in the #1 pick.

The difference in salary will be nothing in the grand scheme of things…particularly with the Lakers ability to generate endorsement $$$

your calling out jim buss for being desperate? I would be real alarmed if he wasnt desperate. As for a potential trade, lets wait and see where we pick, if we pick at all, and who they talk trades with and if anything materializes at all. As long as he isnt looking to bring in guys in their 30’s past their prime, im open to the idea of trading for an established guy if it makes sense.

GM-skill-wise, they agreed to trades that would have had Chris Paul, Kobe, and DHoward. Those were excellent moves, part of why I think Kupchec is awesome. When that fell through (thanks Stern), I read about Nash totally being Buss’s mandate. Awful. I like that if they didn’t get the very top guys in free agency, they only  grabbed role players. They couldn’t go big, so they went development. The right choice.

I hate that Buss might swing for the fences to keep his job when they should go with more development. And if he fails we get GM Phil Jackson. Eh. It won’t happen, but I’d prefer Kupchec get Buss’s job and Jerry West’s son, the guy behind all the draft picks, should get Kupchek’s job.

after watching paul george light up the raptors i would be happy if he leaves the eastern conference the dudes a monster. I wouldnt trade George for the top pick unless im getting randle and clarkson too, I doubt the Lakers trade the pick anyways, probably just trying to see what fish they can reel in.
