Lotto StudParticipantBy Portland taking Williams & Johnson what message are they sending to Bayless? He’s already on a roster that is deep @ the guard position, which he plays his role behind Miller. What kind of message is that to let a player know he’s in their plans for the future by taking another PG?

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantThey should trade Bayless while he still has worth around the league.

plasticmanParticipantSeriously…they need to put him in the starting lineup or let him go. As a former UA Wildcat I’m a big fan of Jerryd, I’m quite sure he can be a 20ppg scorer. I don’t know what the hell Portland is thinking drafting more guards? I mean really doesn anyone have a theory? Are they just not that high on Bayless or what?

Lotto StudParticipantWhat team would be a good fit for him & his style of play?????

WizardofOzParticipantBayless needs to be traded. I want him to be a good player. I don’t want him to get no playing time because the guard position is clogged up. There stunting his growth up in Portland. What is Portland think taking more guards! I think Jerryd Bayless can be special. He was just as talented as O.J. Mayo and MAYBE Derrick Rose coming out of high school and college. He tore it up in the summer league in his rookie year. He won summer league MVP. Portland is just letting this guy rot on the bench. If they’re not going to use him trade him. Maybe trade him to the Pacers, a team that actually needs a PG.

Lotto StudParticipantHe will not go to the Pacers, they’re the ones who draft him & didn’t give him a chance from the gate.

Lotto StudParticipantI can see him with a team like Houston or New York & excelling with his game by him playing a scorers role.

sheltwon3ParticipantBayless would be key for the Knicks but with the way the Knicks are doing things, I doubt they get him. Also I am hearing that Rudy is pretty much gone so that explains Williams. I have no idea about Johnson though but Johnson is said to be more of a playmaker than Bayless is so maybe Bayless is on the outs.

omphalosParticipantIf LeBron ends up at the Knicks (highly unlikely in my opinion) or any other team needing a point guard then Bayless would be a good fit with him. With LeBron liking to do all the playmaking Bayless could relax into a scorer’s role which suits his aggressive mentality. Blazers might just be sitting tight until the major free agents are moved around because some team might lose out and be desperate enough to overpay for Bayless.
Whatever happens, he needs out of Portland. Despite some impressive showings throughout the year he still struggled to get the 30+ minutes on a regular basis that he deserves. It seems Portland are really struggling to find a PG who is a good fit with B-Roy, though it seem they had one in Blake who they simply let go?
Heck, maybe Pritchard wanted to just make headaches for the team who screwed him over and the guy who will take his job.

cmurda03ParticipantBayless is a scoring guard like a young Steve Francis. His game isn’t based around setting up his teammates, but he scores at a high efficiency rate. I blame the Pacers and Blazers for not capitalizing on his abilities. He’s versatile and athletic enough to play the 2-guard in certain situational lineups. He’s in that Monta Ellis/Steve Francis/Allen Iverson mold. A team that can capitalize off his abilities would be teams like the L.A. Clippers, the New York Knicks or the Pacers. They needed scoring punch from his position coming into the draft. LA now has Willie Warren now though.

IndianaBasketballParticipantWell… KP is out of the door, so who knows what’s going to happen with the Blazers’ roster. He built this roster, so who knows what the new GM will do.
The Blazers have a lot of options at guard though. They now have Andre Miller, Brandon Roy, Rudy Fernandez, Jerryd Bayless, Patrick Mills, Elliot Williams and Armon Johnson.
They’ve been high on Williams for awhile. IF they end up trading Fernandez, which looks like a high possibility, Williams will be his replacement.
They have the most options at point guard. I still like Miller as the starter and Bayless as the backup. There’ll be a battle between Mills and Johnson for that third point guard spot. The loser will be cut.
IF Bayless has made a significant improvement this summer and they feel he’s ready to start, they’d even have the option of trading Miller. People tend to forget that Miller is bascially an expiring contract since the 2011-2012 portion of his contract is unguaranteed. IF they trade Miller, they could keep Bayless, Mills and Johnson.

Bnix13ParticipantMiller and Bayless
I wouldn’t call that depth, it’s a veteran starter with an up and coming backup. The other point guards are no longer on contract, having 3 players at a position is a good thing especially with the blazers injury issues.
The problem with the blazers is their players have improved and are coming off of rookie contracts. How much are they willing to pay these young players? Batum is the SF of the future, that became clear when they turned down the number 4 pick .
The blazers are locked starter wise at SG, SF, and PF. They want a future PG and it will be Bayless or a young guard they trade for. Bayless and Batum are both 21, Oden is 22. All three have potential, all three are free agents after this coming season. If they can keep the three and they remain healthy they will be solid starters for years to come.

mattbballin32ParticipantI can see Bayless coming to Houston. Lowry might leave and him and Brookes have the same style of play. Although Bayless is much bigger they are both good scorers and decent passers.

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantcan anybody tell me why KP got fired!? I don’t think this had anything to do with him doing a bad job. More like something happen between him and Allen.

Lotto StudParticipantIf Bayless becomes on the block who do you think Houston,New York etc. give up for him?

sc0rebuckets11Participantwhat does ny have to offer, other than draft picks?
Bayless = buckets.

Lotto StudParticipantNew York could possibly give up David Lee since he’s a FA

Lotto StudParticipantIs Bayless on the block now???????
0 - Posted on: Sun, 06/27/2010 - 7:03am #342566

PlatypusParticipantthe team he would fit best would honestly be the Lakers at the point
0 - Posted on: Sun, 06/27/2010 - 7:08am #342569
Lotto StudParticipantHonestly I think they wouldn’t be any better than Portland, as far as a fit to utilize him.

McWinningParticipantI think a trade is in the air. A big one too.
Ive heard rumors that they signed Koponen, Freeland mysteriously pulled of a game in europe so he may be being signed. Claver was spotted in Portland. Could they be part of a trade? they all have decent value as former first round pick. Or maybe were losing a lot of players and were signing them for depth.
Or maybe our new gm is just cashing in on them by getting them over. But why would we do that when we already have 17 players that are either under contract, have options, or might be resigned, we have too many pieces, hopefully can trade some of them for an all star talent.
