valentineOk I guess it’s time to put up or shut up. Alot of people on here have expressed there opinion in the past about bayless saying he can become a allstar if given a chance. Well the chance gets no better then this. All he has to beat out is calderon for the starting point guard spot. No more excuses we will now see if the kid is as good as some people think

MelParticipantYup. I agree, This very site had him as #4 pick to OKC the year they surprised everyone and took Westbrook.
He, like Beasley, had great college seasons but hadn’t got the chance to really showcase their abilities because of already star talent on their team.
Let’s see what he can do

sheltwon3ParticipantHonestly I don’t know if he will get the minutes people are thinking he will get because Toronto is deep and you have to think Caulderon is going to play more minutes now and Bayless at best will get maybe 20 minutes and he was getting like 13 14 in New Orleans. Toronto when healthy have a lot of big man and swingman that get minutes. Weems,Derozan, Barbosa and you have small forward like Peja, Kleiza, Julian Wright. I am thinking maybe if he plays well this year, they move Barbosa and Bayless takes that role.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantWhen Bayless played point for the Blazers he didnt know how to get his teammates involved in the game..And the coach would pull him..They wanted him to be a pass 1st point guard but thats not his game..
He does have the ability to score..Last year he averaged a free throw attempt for every 2 field goal attempt..The 3rd best among all guards…He’s fearless attacking the basket..No matter who is there,he would try to dunk on them..His mid-range is very good..But he’s not that good a 3 point shooter..
But Toronto plays that European type offense,so many it’ll fit his style…

JoeWolf1He’s not a point guard, I don’t think he’ll flourish, but I think he’ll get more minutes and score more points. I think at best he is a backup type guy who can drop 10 points in a hurry while spelling your starter.
He hasn’t proved much to me over the years other than dropping a ton of points in summer league and going for 30 every once in a while. Maybe for a team like Toronto he can eek out a living as a starter, but I don’t think he’s the caliber of player to start at point guard for a winning team.

hiphopismylifeParticipantThis kid was a monster in high school. I was really pissed when the Pacers traded him. Given the minutes he can be a very productive scorer in Toronto. But I still dont know if it’s really HIS time. Hes not a pure pg and their wing players have been getting valueable experience while Bayless has been getting inconsistent pt these last few years. It is a better oppurtunity though.

JNixonParticipantBayless is an instant offensive spark off the bench. Nothing more or less really. He can get you into your offense and function in the basic responsibilities of a PG, but he’s not a playmaker for others really. He’s not going to make anyone better than they already are. I think he can get you anywhere from 10-13 ppg offensively at his best, but he’s a bit one-dimensional.

IndianaBasketballParticipantThey already have a Bayless type of player in Toronto, except he’s better… LeAndro Barbosa.

hiphopismylifeParticipant@ Indiana. I think Bayless and Barboso are different if you really watch them. Bayless loves to operate in the mid-range and can probably create off the bounce a little bit better. Barbosa shoots more from the outside and can really get out on the break with that freakish speed. But I see what you mean. Similar size guys, both scorers.

IndianaBasketballParticipantYea, they’re different players. I just mean both are tweeners and are more offensive sparks off of the bench than anything else.

Toronto16ParticipantI hope when he is watching Calderon he can learn how to run an offense, and be a PG in the mold of Russell Westbrook.
