After a relatively quiet first four games in a Tokyo Apache uniform, teenage forward Jeremy Tyler had a breakthrough weekend against the Saitama Broncos, culminating with a game-high 27-point outing on Sunday in the Apache’s 91-83 road triumph.
Tyler, a bona-fide NBA prospect who played in Israel last season, scored 15 points on Saturday in the Apache’s one-point loss.
He was a forceful presence in the paint a day later, attacking the rim with a clear purpose — five slam dunks, to be precise — as Tokyo capitalized on his explosive athleticism.
Entering the weekend, his previous season high was nine points, which he scored on two occasions.
Tokyo improved to 2-4 as Tyler pulled down 11 rebounds in 26 busy minutes on the court. He was 13-for-23 from the field.
Guard Byron Eaton was the Apache’s second-leading scorer with 16 points, followed by Kendall Dartez, who scored 14, grabbed 10 rebounds, dished out seven assists, blocked five shots and made three steals. Center Robert Swift also scored seven points, while Cohey Aoki, one of the league’s most recognizable Japanese stars, had his second consecutive quiet outing (three points; he scored a combined five points in the series).
Bobby Nash paced Saitama (2-6) with 19 points and Bruce Brown scored 16. Kenny Satterfield had 12 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and six turnovers, while teammates Daiki Terashita and Gordon Klaiber scored 12 points apiece.

PureshooterParticipantSwift had some bad knee injuries early on. He actually showed some promise at one point, but that dropped off entirely after the ACL and meniscus tears.
