elevation1013ParticipantSo is it just me or is this guy the worst nationally televised announcer in pro sports? Personally I don’t like him cause of all the comments biased towards the two Florida teams (which his brother either coaches or coached) and always bitching about fouls. I’m tired of listening to him whine when LeBron or Dwight has someone guarding them who’s not afraid to play a bit physical. He’s never played basketball before and doesn’t seem to understand the physical side of the game. Someone needs to give him another coaching gig so I can stop watching ESPN games on mute. Anyone else share my hatred for this clown or am I alone here?

llperezim pretty sure he did play at a small division 3 college. In any case, i dont have a problem with him. He does get upset over wierd stuff from time to time, but overall i dont think he is biased.

RickyRubio9ParticipantI love him; simply love him.
I see no bias at all. It actually seems like he tries to refrain from talking about his brother for that reason..

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantI think he’s very funny as a commentator. It’s refreshing to hear somebody joke around sometimes rather than always being so serious. This is the best combo of commentators on national televised games.

RickyRubio9Participant& I remember like one of his first games commetating with ESPN; or it was like his 1st year.
He called it perfectly on Kobe getting an offensive rebound over Brandon Bass after a Free-Throw miss.
It’s like, he said "I don’t like Bass having ot box out Kobe" etc etc and it happened just as he called it..
It was a Sunday evening game on ABC as well.
He seems very wise when it comes to the game.0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/13/2011 - 10:21am #489675

nhlkdog411ParticipantI don’t really mind him..he’s better than that idiot Walton anyway..I literally heard Walton say a couple weeks back that he wasn’t sure if Rudy Fernandez (he of the dunk contest that many felt he was robbed in) had the ups to dunk the ball.

He did that last time too, a Rockets game. Lakers @ Rockets about 2 years ago. Rockets were up and somebody on the Lakers was shooting a free throw. JVG said Kobe is a winner and would somehow come up with the off board if they missed the free throw. The free throw was missed, Kobe with the offensive board, and the game winner.

CodySLCParticipantI would like to listen to him if he was coaching a team i played for. And I know he’s really smart and has alot of basketball knowledge. But one guy i dont like to listen to during a game is Hubbie Brown.

mikeyvthedonParticipantBut, Mark Jackson is WAY worse. It is not even comparable. I think Mark Jackson is easily the worst commentator on big network TV right now, and it is not close.

elevation1013ParticipantLol well I guess I’m alone in this regard, but I still believe he announces with some bias. After today’s Heat/Celtics and last Sunday’s Magic/Celtics games I grew exceedingly frustrated with him complaining everytime a Celtic would bump and grind with Dwight or Lebron. Hell today he even said Lebron wasn’t getting fair treatment from the refs because Rondo was guarding him too closely. RONDO! If Lebron can only take a 6’0 pg to the hole once all game it says more about his style of attacking the basket and going through bigger and slower players than around smaller and quicker ones than it does about Rondo’s defence. Lebron relies on initiating contact when going to the basket but he couldn’t do that with Rondo today due to Rondo’s superb positional play and his small frame being unable to absorb the contact without it looking like a charge; which it often is when Lebron drives.
But you guys are right, Van Gundy doesn’t view the Heat any differently than any other team. He only predicted them to break every team record ever established in the NBA. In case ya forgot:
"They will break the single-season win record [of 72]," Jeff Van Gundy said. "And I think they have a legit shot at the Lakers’ 33-game [winning] streak [in 1971-72], as well. And only the Lakers have even a remote shot at beating them in a playoff series. They will never lose two games in a row this year.
"They have put together a much better roster than anybody could ever have expected," Van Gundy added. "There is now no good way to defend them. They are unguardable. They are indefensible. They are just too good and have added so much shooting and are so versatile that they will score at will.
