On SportsNation yesterday, they asked Jay to rank Westbrook, Curry, Paul, Wall, and Irving. I’ve found out over the years that I disagree with a LOT that he has to say, and this only cements it. His final ranking was:

    1. Curry
    2. Westbrook
    3. Irving
    4. Wall
    5. Paul

I can agree with the first 2, but I can’t agree with him putting Paul at the bottom. I understand the whole “he’s never been out of the 2nd round” argument, but you can’t hold that against him. I don’t think there’s anyway you can put Kyrie above Paul (and in my opinion, Wall) because if you put him on the Clippers, they don’t even beat the Spurs. And any of those 5 guys on the Cavs would’ve made the Finals. Also I’m a huge John Wall fan and he said that he plays matador defense and basically said his defense isn’t any better than Kyrie’s, which I thought was insane

    Thoughts?

Wall was all-NBA defensive 2nd team, All Duke analysts are biased so I wouldn’t put too much weight in what he says.

Put Paul at #3 and you got yourself a list.

     My list would go

    1) Curry

    2) Westbrook

    3) Paul

    4) Wall

    5) Lillard

The 5 spot is a tough one.  I put Irving at a close 6, or really it would be 5a and 5b but I think Lillard is the better player.  He doesn’t miss games and I have a hard time putting some who misses 15 to 20 games a season over someone who always plays.  Especially when I consider them comparable talents, Irving just does it a little flashier.

I also think the decision between Curry and Westbrook is extremely close and I contemplated putting Westbrook at 1.  I believe if the Thunder would have been 100% healthy the last couple of years they would have one title by now.  Furthermore I think that if they were healthy this past season they would have beaten the Warriors.

Curry just had an amazing season, and is one of the most fun players to watch that I have ever seen.  He is going to age so gracefully because of his shooting.  After all of the success that he had last year, as much as I wanted to I couldn’t put Westbrook above him for that reason.  It’s a close race though.

I thought D Rose would have been in this list for along time, it’s sad really because he was also really fun to watch.

This would be my exact same list. Curry, Westbrook, and CP3 are a tier above the rest right now with Wall, Lillard, and Kyrie a step or two behind. I’d put Lillard over Kyrie mainly due to injury concerns but there isn’t much separation between these two and Wall.

Irving is a spectacular player but he plays with LeBron which hides so many of his flaws. He should be 5th.

What makes it tricky is the fact that the parameters haevn’t really been narrowed down; too much of it is left open to subjective defining of the terms. Are we talking about who has had the best career? Is it a lifetime-achievement award? Is it which ones would you most want on your team now and going forward, considering their ages? Or is it just for this very moment, right now, in July of 2015? Is it for one game, or for a season? Or for a playoff series?

These questions all have different answers, just like QBs in the NFL.

I knew right away Kyrie would be on the list. Duke PG lookin out for a Duke PG. Kyrie has made drastic improvements next to Lebron and deserves recognition yet top 3 is astretch.

Just crying because D Rose is no longer in the discussion, and will now compete for worst contract in the NBA next year.

Keep the faith. If (big if) Rose can have a year without knee propblems he’s right back near the top of this list and with his desire to win is worth every cent. Fingers crossed!

Paul, Westbrook and curry are clearly the top 3 in some order. They are each different players so its really hard to compare them to each other but they are all superstars and franchise players.

Irving, wall and lillard are the next group in some order.

Then you got guys like Lowry, Conley, d-rose, dragic, bledsoe, tony Parker that fall into that next tier.
