Bostoncelticsforlife9ParticipantFirst I want to start off by saying that I’m a die hard Boston Celtics fan so forgive me if i sound a little biased. I have been watching Jared sullingeer play for the first four preaseason games and
I am very happy with what I’ve been seeing from him so far. He has been shooting very efficiently especially from three, 58% from 3 and 53% from the field. Although it has only been four games he has shown great improvement in FG% so far which can be very big for the Celtics if he continues to shoot that well through out the season. He has also improved in the post. He is doing a great job using his body to get close the the rim and finish up and over his defenders. His passing out of the post has been really good too, he has been doing a great job recognizing double teams and making the smart and unselfish pass. He has been doing a pretty good job playing defense without fouling unlike last year. Lastly, he has been doing an absolutely amazing job just flat out helping his team win, whenever he has been in the game in the limited time he has been out there, 25.5 mins/per game, you can tell that he’s really wants to win, he’s not so worried about filling up his box score hes playing to win hes being unselfish and doing whatever it takes to win. Once the reagular season starts with his increased minutes and rondo coming back, I expect Sullinger and Rondo surprise a lot of people and and lead the Celtics to playoffs.Projected Averages:
19.2 pts, 10.5 rebs, 3.2 asts, 0.9 blks, 0.8 stls, 40% from 3, 52% FG, 37.2 mins

bloodshyParticipantI, like many others, thought Sully’s drop in the draft was unwarranted. I always thought Boozer was a good comp for him, but by developing a consitent deep ball, his potential is even higher. He has a tremendous amount of skill and strength and was a great pick for Boston.

JoeWolf1You realize Sullinger is averaged 14.5 ppg in the pre-season, without the scoring of Jeff Green, right?
Don’t get me wrong, Sullinger can play, but you think he’ll be the first option for Boston, and increase his pre-season scoring by 5 ppg?
He also has spread the ball around nicely during the pre-season, but with Rondo in the mix, he won’t be a 3.5 apg player. Per 36 minutes in his career, he’s at 1.9 apg.
Seems like a bit of a stretch to me. I expect him to probably improve on his very solid 13.3 / 8.1 averages from last year, but I don’t think he’s a #1 option. Sure, there is room for guys to step up and score, but without Green ( 16.9 ppg in 13-14 ) on their roster, I don’t think it’s a real accurate indication as to how the regular season will shape out.
Just so I’m not one of those guys who is critical of your prediction, but doesn’t give one of my own, I think he’s good for…
32.4 mpg – 14.6 ppg 8.2 rpg 2.3 apg .7 bpg .5 spg 33% from 3 52% from FG

Bostoncelticsforlife9ParticipantI do agree with your piont about Jeff Green but like I said Sully is only averaging 24.5 mins cuz stevens is giving minutes to Anthony and powell to see what they can do so I think his mins are gonna go up at the start of the season and with him shooting this well I think brad might like try out him as their 1st option and he might surprise some people

JoeWolf1I think he’ll be in the low 30’s for sure, but 37.2 is a lot of freaking minutes.
That would have put him at 8th in the NBA in mpg last season, but aside from Powell and Anthony, who you mentioned, they have Bass and Olynyk who’ll get burn. All that, and Sully’s tendencies for fouling (5 per 36 mpg) in 13-14, I just can’t see him getting that many.
Anyways, I really do like Sully, and think he’s got a bright future, but I just can’t see him getting 37 mpg and dropping an 19/10 double double

lalailaParticipantfrom not such a great rookie season, to showing some flashes of future allstar in sophmore year, then suddenly becoming legit 3-point shooter double-double machine in year 3 while winning MIP?
doesn’t this remind of Kevin Love story?

phila9012ParticipantIf he drops 10 to 15 lbs of weight then it sounds like the kevin love story. Once he got in great shape he started to take off. I think sullinger is capable of being a 20 and 10 guy, but he needs to get in better shape and become a better shooter.

OhCanada-ParticipantI guess its no longer a secret. I think his progression will be similar to Kevin Loves with a lower cieling. Bold statement but lets look back on it in the future. If he gets 32-mpg and Boston cleans house as expected (Rondo, Green, Bass) I see him being amongst the league leaders in 20 and 10 games this season and years to come. Defenitely an MIP candidate.

r377ParticipantHe was a great high school player and a great college player. He has all the tools, I just hope his back holds up….. He dropped in the draft due to his back

HitsterParticipantJared was always seen as a low risk but lower upside draft pick and I’m still not sure why he dropped to 21st in 2012. I seem to vaguely recall something showed up on a medical report or something.
Also I recall him being interviewed during his college days and asked about a 3 point range and he said he didn’t need it at that time. So it is very impressive that in only his 2nd NBA season he had worked on his 3 point range enough to hit 56 baskets. Okay his shooting percentage from distance isn’t great and he maybe had free range to shoot last season. But if he continues to work on it, he’ll increase his percentage and learn to take better shots. Plus with Kelly Olynyk hitting .035 from beyond the 3 point line last season, Brad Stevens has two legit 3 point options amongst his frontcourt so this will really help the Celtics to spread the play when they need.
Sullinger could be a darkhorse for MIP and I’d figure his minutes will increase and his production should too through increased playing time and better production. But no way do I see him playing 37 plus MPG, the Celtics aren’t in a contending situation so will not overplay guys to chase games and Brad Stevens will look at different rotations etc.

Ebown5ParticipantI don’t know if he will average those numbers, but I don’t see why he shouldn’t be on the short list for MIP. Everyone knows he can play, but how good can he be? He doesn’t have great physical tools, but he has a lot of skill.

ExumInfernoParticipantFor Sullinger to have a really big season, the Celtics need to move out Brandon Bass. That will free up minutes for Sullinger. Bass is a very efficient player, a veteran who could help a contending team.
Olynyk will be very useful for Sullinger, Olynyk can drag other centers to the perimeter to allow Sullinger to operate in the paint. Then when a bigger body is on Sullinger, he can take them outside and hit the long ball.
