StewParticipantI’ve watched kentucky all season and for my money james young is the best player on kentucky followed by julius randle. An the Harrison Twins, Poythress, Dakari, and Lee all need to come back for another season. What’s yall thoughts?

3 No Biases 3ParticipantI still think Randle is a freak and their best prospect but I’ve said all along James Young will work his way to the top tier come draft time. He’s an aggressive scorer who can score from anywhere and he’s a good defender.
And I agree 100% on all the other guys you said that need to come back. WCS, Randle, and Young (although for some reason I could picture him coming back) will be the only ones who declare. The others just aren’t ready yet and I think they intend to return.

PhillySports0ParticipantI wouldn’t call myself a Kentucky fan yet but I have been watching almost all of their games the past 5 years.. Well I dont think James Young is the best.. Randle definitely has him but Young is 2nd that’s not a knock on him cause I think James Young is really good. Harrison Twins, Poythress and Lee should probably stay. But if Dakari plays himself into a mid first rounder he should go… No point of developing in College for free when you can get paid in the NBA to do it and with better coaching.

3 No Biases 3ParticipantI agree that Dakari should go if his stock rises but I just can’t see it. I’ve watched all but maybe 2 games this year and he hasn’t shown much at all. To me he has a big body and a decent touch, but thats about it right now. He struggles securing the ball which is huge for a big man and just looks really slow.
I think he could be good eventually but I just can’t picture him as first rounder yet.

llperezanyone else see cj miles with young? I mean he just doesn’t have a great mid range game or outstanding finishing ability.

StewParticipantI’m not saying James Young is miles ahead of Randle. There pretty much even it’s just Julius has struggled in SEC play and is turnover prone. I like James because he has a smooth game and wet from three

earldaniel31Participantif Dakari Johnson & Marcus Lee returns, will they get overshadowed by Trey Lyles & Karl Towns?
0- Posted on: Sun, 02/09/2014 - 8:50pm #870433

imAboutDatActionParticipantDakari wont, Lee will. especially if Poythress returns.
Dakari plays hard and has a decent post game, Cal loves what he brings to the table. Lee is on the outside looking in this year and with the added depth on the front court next year and the possibility of Poythress returning for his junior season,it might be more of the same next year.

StewParticipantI think Trey Lyles will start. Karl Towns I’m not to keen on him not saying he isn’t special but I think he will struggle with physical play on the college level

earldaniel31ParticipantTowns can shoot the ball plus he’s familiar with Coach Cal’s system being in the Dominican Republic roster..

I watch every UK game and in the last 2 especially Young has been horrid on defense. Cal has pulled him for Jon Hood. Right now the best player for Kentucky has been Julius and close behind has been Poythress and then Dakari. Aaron Harrison has been decent and Andrew keeps getting pulled for Jarrod Polson.
Young is in the doghouse right now because he keeps shooting bad flat, never passes and plays matador defense(no defense and rushes back to brick a 3).

imAboutDatActionParticipanthe hasnt been playing terrible, he’s jus been cold the past two games but overall he;s been a real good offensive player for Kentucky,he’s their best perimeter scorer. but yeah, his defense is bad lol. him and andrew got pulled in the 1st half for not putting in effort and for foul trouble as well (andrew fouled out)
James Young is a good fluid athlete. he’s jus doesnt attack the rim that much, which i dont know why.his shot selection also needs work right
i got him as the 2nd best SG in this draft.
but OP, he’s their 2nd best player right now. Randle drawing double/triple teams opens up the floor for Young and co.

reanimatorParticipantThe biggest thing going for James Young is that he is a year young for a freshman. The biggest question is will he expand his game or refine his current game which is more geared towards being a specialist?

StewParticipantJulius Randle is a great player I would just give Young The edge on him right now for the season overall because randle has had some really lackluster performances

juves4783Participantwhat? james young is better than julius randle???? you are nuts man. james young is the lefty version of nick young. can’t find a shot he doesn’t like, doesn’t pass the ball to the post. he may end up with a better ppg stat, but that’s because nobody on kentucky can figure out how to pass in the post and defenses let these guys jack up shots because none are good shooters except james young. even young is shooting just 41% from the field, 33% from 3’s.

IknowitallJKParticipantHello all I have been on the sidelines for a while on this site just reading now I am ready to get all in the game.
I like James Young as a smooth, young ( no pun attended) 2 guard with great size for the position that can shoot the ball well. But I think the oringinal poster is overrating him a little, there is no way he is the best player on Kentucky’s team. Randle is the main focus for the other team ever time they hit the floor, yet he still is shooting 529% on 16. PPG and grabing 9.8 RPG. He is an unique talent big string with handles and a warriors heart. He doesn’t give the same effort on defense but is still young and can be coached to do more on that side or become David Lee, plus nor does Young.
The kid from Indian may be a better long term prospect that him, but that is another topic.
The following are stats ESPN.com
Player 1: 6’6" 215 lp, 32.2 Mins, 14.5 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 1.9 APG, 0.9 SPG, .410 fg%, .667 FT%, .335 3P%
Player 2: 6’6" 218 lp, 29.9 Mins 14.0 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 2.2 APG, 1.1 SPG, .452 FG%, .792 FT%, 309 3P%
Player 1 is James Young and Player 2 is Aaron Harrison these two are not so far apart as far as stats. I am not saying James Young is not the better player but that they are closer that it may appear.
