jonus grumbyParticipantIs it a foregone conclusion or assumption that those 4 exercise their right to opt out?
Doubt Wade does. Bosh??, Anthony Yes, James???

TyroberParticipantMelo is opting out this year. Why do you doubt Wade does? If anything he needs to go ahead and lock in a long term contract. I wouldn’t be surprised if Wade, Bosh, and James all opt out and sign another deal in Miami. But as we have saw with Miami this season Miami without Wade near on the same level so maybe James doesn’t opt out and wants to see how the next two playoffs go?

The QParticipantIf Wade opts outand Miami gives him more money…that would be just outlandish. his money could go to far better uses than a PT player at this point.
I love Wade, but his lack of shooting is definitely an issue here as well for floor spacing purposes. Miami should completely retool their squad around Bosh and James.
Getting stagnant, complacent is going to be their downfall if they don’t. Hell, it probably will cost them this year if they don’t get it going.

jonus grumbyParticipantI see what you are saying about Wade needing a long term contract. I was focusing on him leaving to much on the table by not taking the last year of this contract.

HitsterParticipantLeBron definitely opts out, he’s the best player in the NBA and deserves to be paid as such.
Bosh turns 30 soon so there is a case for him opting in or opting out. Miami may not be prepared to give him an absolute max deal but could give him 5 years so moving elsewhere would give him little if any extra money to what Miami might give him. You then have the flip side would Chris Bosh in 2015 or 2016 get much less than he would this year so does he leave over $42 million on the table?
D-Wade turned 32 last week so to opt out of $41.5 million or the next two years would be another big move to take and if he did so, he’d probably want a 5 year deal to compensate this. I’d factor a 5 year deal at around $80 to $85 million minimum taking into acount what he’d leave on the table. D-Wade is a legend in Miami so I don’t really see him wanting to move so could certainly opt in for one or both of his years if he was prepared to take a salary drop in say 2016. Also D-Wade might be prepared to just play these two years, that would take him to 34 and reaccess where his career is then.
Melo is likely to be the highest paid player in the NBA next year unless he opts out and moves on, turning down $23.5 million would be a big move and he’d want to be compensated for it. But with the Knicks in a mess and not likely to be able to make any major moves before 2015, Melo has a big decision to make. I think he’d leave well over $30 million on the table if he opted out and moved on. Again Melo is pushing 30 so this could be his last mega deal in the NBA so he would want it to be right.
My personal guess is that Melo opts out and tries to get the best possible deal with the Knicks for 4 or 5 years but for 2016-17 at least he has a player option. This way he gets his salary and it gives him a chance to see what moves the Knicks can make. If he has a player option for 2015-16 then any potential FA’s that summer might not want to go to the Knicks if Melo is likely to bolt. This ties him to the Knicks for a couple of years but if things don’t go right he has the opt out or more likely he gets traded on the condition he opts in.

phila9012ParticipantIf the Heat want to win again with these players, it would be great if Wade and Bosh took $10 million a year for 4 years each and LeBron took $15 million a year for 4 or 5 years. Then they would have a chance to bring in a player or 2 that would help solidify their roster for the next 4 years and the cap situation wouldn’t screw them as hard. I think it would be the ultimate unselfish move by all 3. I think it would be worth it, that would mean at least 2 or 3 more titles for them between this year and the next 3 or 4 after that. Then I think you could call them a historically great team and LeBron with 5 titles would put him in Jordan’s class as the clear second best player ever. I don’t think this will happen, but it would be great to see the heat continue to play together.

IndianaBasketballParticipantD. Wade would be a fool to opt out of those last two years.

canesboy6ParticipantJoel Anthony is definitely opting in. Lol jk
Melo is a tough call New York is doomed for the foreseeable future with no assets or cap room, but what else can he do? Lakers? Him and Kobe is a nightmare, plus there would be no money to build around them. Nobody really has money, it would take a sign and trade, and I honestly don’t know who even wants him that bad. He’s good but I don’t think you can be an elite team with him taking up your max.
Id be surprised if the heat trio opt out. This free agency sucks and I don’t see any big names that can make them any better. They lose a lot of role players too like ray ray, battier, James jones, mprobably rashard Lewis will all retire or move on. I’d fill out the roster for the short term, let all of those big contracts and also guys like haslem, charmers, and Norris cole come off the books, and be big players again in 2015. Wade might even retire by then. You’d have no money on the books and a chance to start a nucleus in a free agency class that has guys like rondo, hibbert, Aldridge, love, Marc gasol just off the top of my head. Then you’ll have a better understanding of how much wade is still worth and where everything fits.
