knicksfan7ParticipantThis guy has been tearing it up lately and has led Oklahoma State to a winning record in Big 12 play so far this season with there latest win over #1 ranked Kansas. I really like his game a lot and believe he should be selected in the top 10 depending on team’s needs. Besides Evan Turner I would take James Anderson over Wesley Johnson, Dominique Jones, and Xavier Henry. He is perfect size for a SG and can score from anywhere on the court. Thoughts??

flibbenmcgParticipantI like his game alot, only negative that I really noticed in the game against Kansas was that he settled for the contested jumper too often. I think I would take Wes Johnson over him still, but I do think he should go befrore Jones and Henry.

knicksfan7ParticipantI think taking Wes Johnson over him is just saying the GM is unsure about James Anderson and would rather go with Wes Johnson where you know what you’re going to get. Though I think the only thing that stops James Anderson from being a very good player is where his attitude is at, if he has a bad attitude then I would take a guy with less skill, but if he wants to get better on his strengths and weaknesses he can be a very good player.

JNixonParticipantI believe he can put up nearly 20 ppg in his prime. He’s got a sweet shot, he’s a better slasher than he used to be (even though he’s not a great shot-creator off the dribble) and he can score off post up which is impressive for a college player. Also and underrated defender who is very fundamentally sound. I would take him in the lottery and I would try to develop him into a 2nd option.

knicksfan7Participantif he can be that, that will pay great dividends for the GM that drafted him. I think he needs a well disciplined PG in order to be good. Keiton Page though he is undersized and nothing special he does everything right for a PG, and that is what James Anderson needs to be successful. I would like to see him with the Hornets if they pick 12 or 13. I think Anderson with Chris Paul can make him a very good player out of the gate.

JoeWolf1I think James Harden doesn’t have anything on James Anderson except maybe a little more of a passers’ mentality. I think James Anderson should be a lottery pick, he is perfect combination of experience and upside. He is 6’6” and has an NBA body, plays defense, can more than hold his own against top collegiate competition, pretty good handles and can get to the rim and rebound. I think Turner is the #1 sg on the board, I would still take Johnson over Anderson, but not by much, just because Johnson can play sg/ and sf and does a little bit more, but I’d put Anderson over Henry and I’ve seen them both play quite a bit, and I would rank both Henry and Anderson over Jones.

JoeWolf1knicksfan, I agree with him being a good fit in New Orleans.
I also think Anderson would be a good fit in Utah depending where they fall in the lottery. They are in need of a solid shooting guard and I think Anderson could start right away and be a nice compliment to Deron Williams.

knicksfan7ParticipantTo me Anderson is the most Pure at the SG position, though I do think Turner is the better player who is more versatile. If James Anderson is on a team with a great PG (New Orleans or Utah) I think he can have an easier transition to the NBA as to Turner who may have to fill multiple roles on another team as a rookie and will lead to him struggling.

knicksfan7ParticipantI disagree on Henry over Jones. I think Jones is a better player, maybe in the future Henry can surpass Jones, but I don’t see it. Henry can shoot and that’s about it as can many other guys. To me Henry is just a shooter, not a scorer. Otherwise I agree with what you said Joe. I think with Syracuse’s success lately being more due to Rautins rather than Johnson makes me want to put Anderson ahead of Johnson.

JNixonParticipantJames Anderson would compliment CP3 beautifully. I agree that that would be a good fit for him. I agree with Utah being good too. He would be a good fit for any PG that can be a big factor creating shots for their self and others off the dribble because he isn’t at a high level creating for himself off the dribble.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/28/2010 - 6:54pm #261601
knicksfan7ParticipantShooting guards are supposed to make shots, point guards are supposed to create them. James Anderson’s shortcomings in creating his shot off the dribble is something he’ll learn as he grows, it would be a lot worse if his main flaw was inability to slash or hit a 3.

JoeWolf1I hear you, Anderson and Johnson are close, I think it would depend on the team at this point and because Johnson could play the 3 in the NBA I wouldn’t classify him as just a 2 guard. If you had a solid 3 I think it would change who you chose and if you had a solid 2 I think it would change who you chose.
I pretty much agree with you about Jones and Henry, but Henry in my opinion, could use another year of college. You are right, Jones is a scorer and although you don’t need NBA range to play guard if you athletic and can get to the rim, but he is only a 33% 3 point shooter in college. I think this is a situation you have to go with upside, sometimes it can burn you, but Henry has bounced back from his slump and is utilizing his mid range game, getting to the rack and passing out of collapsing defenses. But I think you are right about Jones being more NBA ready and he has the ability to contribute sooner.0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/28/2010 - 7:06pm #261606
knicksfan7ParticipantI understand what you’re saying about Henry, but if he doesn’t stay another year he will get beat, badly. I think Dominique Jones has showed the ability to lead a team to a possible NCAA team from a cellar dweller in the big east, is really big. USF is a football school, not a basketball school. If I were to rank SG’s now I would have Turner, Anderson, Wes Johnson, Jones, Henry. I put Anderson over Wes because with Wes you know what you’ll get, but with Anderson he definitely has more to offer.

TheFactionCoalition.comParticipantThis site compares Anderson to Nick Anderson…don’t know if I’m feeling that…he reminds me more of Cuttino Mobley than Nick A…I know there is a better comparison somewhere though
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/28/2010 - 9:10pm #261624
BiggysmallsParticipantHe reminds me of Michael Redd/J.R Smith…a sweet jump shot, very good mid range game, moves well without the ball, can score in the low post on smaller guys. All of these things are also things that Redd does or did very well. I agree that Anderson could be a 20 ppg guy in his prime…he’d fit in with just about any team really. He would definitley flourish with Paul or Williams but what good shooter wouldnt.
I really like Anderson and until recently, he’s flown under the radar big time.

quinceyhodgeslove the guy game. the thing is he hasnt been just doing this lately hes ben doing this for 2 seasons now. glad people are starting to notice though

sheltwon3ParticipantNew Orleans already have
Thorton who has been playing well as of late.New Orleans need a center prospect or a starting small forward.
0- Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 10:29am #261747
knicksfan7ParticipantMarcus Thorton is an undersized two guard who is better suited for coming off the bench like he does now. Also, I can guarantee you that any Hornets fan would rather have James Anderson starting at the 2 guard over Mo Pete. I can’t believe he is a starter in the league, how old is he???

quinceyhodgesyeah i cant see them going after a shooting guard. then again minny went after 3 pg and the hawks have done something simlar when they needed another position. i dont think its likely but i wont rule it out

WildDudeParticipantI liked James Anderson since he came to OkSt where he took the league by storm with a great start to his freshman year but derailed a bit but is now developing consistency which is what I was looking for from him… and he has proved to be a consistent scorer the past two seasons and I have no doubt he can be a top 10 pick and if he can continue this pace I see him in the top 5, I don’t see too many flaws with his game… and the one thing I like most about him is he plays without a conscience, he will not allow bad shots rattle him, he just continues to gain more confidence as the game goes… I see the draft folding like this
1. Wall
2. Turner/Johnson
3. Turner/Johnson
4. Cousins- although his attitude may cause him to drop
5. James AndersonHe could very well be the 4th overall pick, possibly even third…
I really like the J.R. Smith comparison, great shooting stroke and can slash at times…

quinceyhodgesif the hornets can win with thortan then it doesnt matter how undersized he is and so far hes shown he can start and produce as a starter. he doesnt get killed on d despite his size if he id then i could understand replacing him but if a guy is producing like he has and no clear cut superstar is there to get pick at his position then why waste a pick on a sg when you can get sf since that spot is the weakest spot for them
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 11:46am #261785

JNixonParticipantI think they should go after either the best available big man or a shooting guard like Anderson. I don’t get the feeling that Thornton is a long-term solution as a starting SG, even though I do think he could provide a scoring punch off the bench. I could be wrong and he may end up setting the world on fire or something, but I think that he’s a true 6th man. I do think that Anderson will be a better player and starter than Thornton will be, so I don’t see why anyone would be against taking him if a guy like Cole Aldrich or Greg Monroe doesn’t fall to you.

quinceyhodgesif im running the team i take johnson easily. with paul you dont need another big time scorer..actually with him and west you just need a sg who can hit a open shot and play d

scoutguruParticipantJ.R. Smith comparison is not bad. But Smith just take too many tough shots, do you know how much better this guy would be if he took higher % shots with not so much degree of difficulty. I hope Anderson rounds out his game so he’s just not reduced to a launcher. But he’s steadily showed that progression and development over his time at OK state, when guys have scouted him and forced him to be more than a spot up shooter. This is a benefit that J.R. didn’t have since he went straight to the pros. College gave him time to grow and be the #1 option for his team to round out his game. But at this point, I take Anderson over all those other 2/3 wing guys you mentioned above, except for Turner and Johnson. I still have my questions about Johnson though. He does many different things on the floor, good all around player, but I just don’t see much “Starability” in him at the next level, I don’t know if he’s anymore than a Lamar Odom, not comparing there measurables, but in the sense that he’s just a jack of all trades, master of none kind of guy. Idk, we’ll see, I guess time will tell….

knicksfan7ParticipantJames Anderson is already a more well rounded shooter than JR Smith. I don’t see JR Smith ever being the player he can be because he loves shooting the 3 rather than high % shots. Wesley Johnson has fallen because as Syracuse has continued succeeding it is Andy Rautins who is leading the team, so I could see Wesley Johnson possibly falling out of the lottery, but taken before the 20th pick, so between 15-18.
yeah scoutguru, I agree with everything you said.

scoutguruParticipantThanks. But I don’t know about no out of the lottery in regards to Johnson. His stock is not taking a nosedive that far. He should be no lower than top 5. I don’t see anyone besides a Monroe or Cousins that should be taken ahead of him IMO.
0- Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 6:47pm #261924
knicksfan7ParticipantMy reasons as to why I can see him taking a nosedive is the following
1. Does not do well at the workouts and combine
2. Age, may scare some GMs because of lack of upside.I see him going really anywhere from 6-18, I do think he will be a consistent pro throughout his career.
