holefillers1ParticipantGot his second start last night at PG. 9pt, 0ast, 3TO. +/-(-1). No idea where the love comes from for this guy. Is it because he is a volume shooter? Or because he shoots imaginary arrows into the crowd? I know its not because he runs his team and checks his man on D. I know there are Murray fans on this site because it cost me about 200pts voicing my opinion last year. Is he just a less athletic Monk or does he have the tools to be Brandon Roy.(as that was this sites favorihe comp)

OhCanada-ParticipantAt this point I gotta say you were right about his lack of a first step and court vision and I was wrong. There you happy. Geez.
With that being said hes not really running the offense for these guys when hes on the court. Hes not even the primary ballhandler. This is obviously partially due to him being incapable of doing so but Denver also has many better options like Mudiay Nelson, Harris, Barton, Galinari, Chandler and Jokic that they run thier offense through. I also wqtched the game last night when they tried to run the offense through him it wasnt very prett6.
Still think he will be a good player and he hasnt had a terrible rookie season considering how tough the gaurd position is to compete at in the NBA. Murrays gonna be fine.

bdmoteParticipantYou cant compare Murray to B-Roy because B-roy was never healthy we really only saw a glimpse of What Brandon could do if he stayed healthy he would just now be 2-3 years into his prime.

OhCanada-ParticipantDid you really have to point out that my guy was – 1?Seems like a bit of a reach to me.

holefillers1ParticipantHaha. I couldn’t resist. He did have 3 steals and a nice block. And yes the +/- is a low blow.

Anton123ParticipantJamal Murray is very young and often plays out of control. It always looks like he isn’t quite sure what he is doing. Still, he finds way to contribute with his great 3pt shooting, ability to occasionally drive or hit the floater and his passing. He will probably never be a true PG, but I’m not sure Denver even needs a true PG with Jokic on the floor.
Jamal Murray is a very interesting young player that shows a lot of promise and fits well with the way the game is played right now.

SubZeroParticipantThe way he played for Team Canada against Team USA before his year at Kentucky gives me hope for the kind of player he can be. He actually turned Anthony Bennett into an elite rim roller for a few games

Andrew1984ParticipantHe was never going to be a classic PG who distributes and plays great on-ball defense, and I don’t think anyone said that he would be. So the stats you cite are only debunking an argument no one made.
Jamal Murray is an instant-offense combo guard who can heat up quick, put points on the board, and is pretty smooth with the ball. He projects as more of a Jamal Crawford, Lou Williams (or maybe Monta Ellis in his prime) than a Chris Paul or a Kyle Lowry. So it looks to me like he’s well on his way.

OhCanada-ParticipantTo be fair Im pretty sure if we search through the forum I said he would be able to run an offense. The jury is still ouy but he hasnt been a primary ball handler at all this season. I also feel like his role with Denver doesnt suit him. In order to really thrive he needs more resposnibility or pressure. Hes one of those guys that performs better as his workload increases. Denver isnt a pick and roll/iso offense either they have some pretty complex sets that run through the high post with cuts and screens and most of his life hes played in pivk and roll oriented offenses. I think I compared him to a cross of Chauncey Billups/Brandon Roy at one point as well. Its still early though I think hell be a very explosive scorer that can find the open man and set up an offense.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantSo is Jamal Murray last year’s Malik Monk or is Malik Monk this year’s Jamal Murray? And how does this fit with last year’s draft being awful and this one being "super deep?"
0- Posted on: Mon, 04/03/2017 - 10:53am #1095006

holefillers1ParticipantI would say Monk is more of a SG and Murray more combo. Monk excels in the break and Murray runs a nice P and R. Both seem to be high volume shooters and niether are known for their defense.
I can’t make a case for a good Brad Beal comp with Monk so I think he slides outside the top 6. I believe bigs rise in this draft and if you are someone that hated the Simmons-Ingram argument you might not like my future posts as I will be pimping Jonathan Isaac and Lauri Markkanen 1-2.

terrancebowerParticipantIf he never learns to run an offense I think he could be pretty similar to current Eric Gordon (he doesn’t have the explosiveness of pre-injury Eric Gordon), which isn’t too bad. Good shooter, scorers mentality, slightly undersized. If he learns to run an offense and develop as more of a combo guard, his ceiling could jump up a little bit, nmaybe similar to a CJ McCollum type (best case), although that’s pretty lofty.
