Not a long stretch, but still, his reputation of being a caring guy is tarnished IMO.

Like you said OP, drink driving is no joke, he got off lucky as far as i’m concerned.

Jalen Rose gets sentenced to jail for DUI but Lindsay Lohan gets probation, violates it, gets house arrest, violates that, and no jail time.

If you are a millionaire and you want to get drunk, you could pay someone to take you home (call a limo), or hire a driver for the nights you go out.

but seriously this ruling is bs, people have done worse and not gone to jail. Even though DUI is a big deal atleast punish everyone not just one person

trying to figure out how punishment is handed down in this country is head scratching. I mean there are countless cases where the punishment for tow similar crimes is completely different. However, most dui cases i have heard of give you "jail time" that is almost always up to the person if they want to do time served (go to jail) or work project which is working on the sides the streets in the communities.

There must be more to the story than what has been released.  I’ve never had one, but I’ve had friends who have and normally the first offense was just overnight or 48 hours.  20 days seems extreme for a first offense, so maybe it’s not…or maybe he had some substance he wasn’t supposed to and the cops gave him a deal.  I obviously don’t know Jalen Roses’ full record, but if he’s getting 20 days for a DUI I wouldn’t think it’s spot free.

when i got my dui, i was in jail for 16 hours getting processed and then released. I was sentenced to 18 days in jail but was given the option of work project which i mentioned above. I just worked on the weekends for a couple months. Almost every basic DUI case with a first time offender is like this that i know of. Maybe detroit is different. There is also a couple thousand in fines/fees as well as classes you have to take. Its not a slap on the wrist by any means. In other words, dont get a DUI.

Yeah, they are no joke.  I had a friend who got 4 and had to do 90 days in prison ( not jail ).

The article kind of made it sound like the judge was trying to make an example out of Jalen.  He is a man who’s done great good for his community and used his wealth and influence to help others, but I don’t think he should get any special treatment in the court room.  I agree with Zero 100%, I don’t think celebrities should get special treatment at all and it pisses me off when junkie starlets get laxed sentences, especially when you see another celebrity, like Jalen, who has done way more to help others do the full time.  I don’t think Jalen should have gotten a lax sentence, just that rich idiots like Lohan and Paris Hilton would have to goto jail like everybody else.

I think it is great that someone is finally saying this drinking and driving business is ridiculous. How many more people have to get killed? I think the judges that have it twisted are the ones that say do some community service. I have no sympathy. I don’t care if it is his first time. The first time someone gets caught driving under the influence likely isn’t their first and the first time someone does it might be the last time they are someone else is able to come back to their friends and family. Personally, I have never had anyone close to me die from driving while drunk or being killed by a drunk driver. I’m sure a lot of you wouldn’t have taken it so lightly if Jalen Rose was drunk behind the wheel and ended up being the one to kill someone you know or are close to. Then it would be an outrage if he only got a slap on the wrist.

If you do something stupid you need to take the consequences that come with it. Jalen needs to man up on this one. He’s admitted it was a mistake so don’t be dumb enough to do it again and if anything use it as something to teach others and get yourself back out and keep doing positive things because when it comes down to it, he’s doing a great job for the community. This is going to put a dent in his reputation, but in a few years assuming he doesn’t muck up again no one will remember this.
