Duke and Lakers fan here. With the way that this season is looking right now, I think that the Lakers need to lose on purpose. They are losing anyways but there is no reason to put themselves out of contention for the number one pick considering that the 76ers havent won yet ( I think). I think the Sixers would draft Okafor instead of Mudiay even though they have a plethora of bigs because to me he is basically the same player as Wroten. The Westbrook comp is way off… And none of their bigs have the skillset of okafor.

I Know some people are on the Mudiay bandwaggon as the first pick of the upcoming draft but Jahlil will seperate himself from everyone else once you guys see him play. He is also in outstanding shape (NBA Body) as evident by one of the Duke Blue Devils youtube videos showing him running on the track shirtless. Has Great Skill when it comes to posting up and passing out of the post. Not a shot blocker but can alter shots and will probably get alot of blocks on the collegiate level. I predict atleast 18 pts, 10 rebs, 3 assists, and 1.5  blocks per game from him.

 

Finally the Lakers need some talent badly. We all know that LA has a history of Great Centers and they did a great job with bynum until he went loco. So waddya guys think??

Well I will say a Julius Randle-Jahlil Okafor frontcourt would have the potential to be one of the top offensive duos in the league in a few years. Obviously it will depend where the Lakers ultimately pick, but I’d really like to see them get Stanley Johnson. He’s a Cali kid who has done nothing but win his whole career. Lakers fans would fall in love with his hustle and work ethic and will have a possible All Star type player going forward who can eventually help get them back to the level they’re accustomed to.

Randle-Okafor would make a really weak rim protecting duo. Okafor fits better next to a PF who can block shots (an Ibaka type). Stanley Johnson makes a whole lot of sense because the Lakers don’t have enough people who can get to the rack and make things happen. They’re also short on hustle. The only issue with Johnson is the jumper… they’re already really weak from the outside… and he’s got form on par with MKG. It’s hard to pick a project 2nd.

Other than Johnson, I like Towns for them. I’d really like him to become a C this year because he might actually be a PF in pros. If he can block shots and push people around, the Lakers should grab him. He’s surprisingly easy to push around for 250 pounds. But so mobile, so skilled, so agile. I’m not sure the Lakerx will have a shot at picking him because he might go 1st.

 yes if its outside the top 5. The lakers are actually competing in games and havent played a non playof caliber team yet. Its going to be real close on whether or not they stay in bottom 5. If they do great. If not, hopefully they learn not to trade away picks going forward, randle comes back strong, and they can take another swing at free agency.

Lakers are in a little different spot than teams like the Sixers that are going to be just bad this year. The fact LA can go out and sign a premium free agent or two this summer means the current list of needs for this team is up in the air. Okafor sounds good, but what if the recent Kevin Love rumors are true? Since Lakers aren’t asset collecting like the Sixers, they may be more interested in someone at a different spot. Could see the need to draft a Stanley Johnson or Oubre, someone to replace the Wesley Johnson types that currently play on the wing. Or maybe a Mudiay to help with ball handling and eventually be the replacement for Kobe- you can play them together and let Mudiay learn from an all-timer. Then the rumors of Towns being a good fit.

And yes I realize free agency starts after the draft, but teams that are really in it with a player have ways of finding out through back channels.

Okafor is just so fundamentaly sound.  I expect a fitter Z-Bo.

And 3 solid wings in Oubre, Johnson and LeVert.

I think also Marcus Lee and Chris Walker have DeAndre Jordan potential just from their size and leaping abilities.

 I doubt the Lakers would full on tank, as Kobe probably would hate losing, and it would be kind of a punch in the gut to a guy that has done nothing but print money for their franchise.
