Bit of a shame him sitting out camp looking to get traded.

He has been starting most games for the past 5-6 years. Good veteran on a good $10 mill salary. Can you even get starting veterans on contending teams for less than $10 mill these days ?

Absolute shame it came out Phoenix were shopping him, even if Cam Johnson started, Jae crowder is a good veteran to have to make this (what might be final) run for a championship in phoenix

Crowder has had a remarkable career for someone who entered the league as a 6’5″ tweener, but just got better as a shooter and hustled his way to being a valuable role player for a decade. It is surprising that with Sarver selling his share of the team, and the appraised price likely to be around $3 billion, maybe $4 billion if some rich guy really wants in and figures he can get a controlling stake for a 1/3 of the ownership for a contender, that this is not the time to fret the luxury tax bill. Spending tens of millions to likely help net hundreds of millions more seems like the smart play. If the bids come in over the course of the season, candidates are more likely to go up in price if they think they can get a champion. Jae Crowder is still a guy you should not want to deal away to save money.

Also, just as an aside, the move from 57% of revenue to the players to 50% (and I think the NFL is a touch under 50%) transformed the value of franchises. Yes, the tv money is big, but the shares make it so incredibly profitable now where there can be justification in going crazy with bidding. I don’t think any of the players’ unions will ever claw back those percentage points in future deals, but it really is something a strong union should argue.

Sarver has always had an issue with luxury tax and the sooner he sells up the better. A lot of good teams would value Jae Crowder so Phoenix may be reluctant to trade him to a contender too.
