I.C.Y.U.NV.MEParticipantJabari Parker is to meet with Coach K Tuesday and decide whether or not he’ll suit up for Duke again on Wednesday (per espn.com and he said it on Sportsnation). I personally think he will come back. Just my opinion, not a guarantee or a prediction. Thoughts?

GlenTaylorSucksParticipantIf he stays, he comes back to an absolutely loaded team that will easily be the title favorite, he’ll be the favorite for the NPOY, and he’ll get to spend a year with his Chicago friend Jahlil Okafor. If he goes, he’ll make mad bank as a likely top 3 pick and be a favorite for the ROY. He wins no matter what he picks.

DaGuywhodidurmaParticipantI think he is going to stay, if he was going to come out the. He would have announced it by now. The more you dwell on the decision. The harder it is to leave that "god" status he has in college.

Land of GrantParticipantHonestly I’d be kind of disappointed to see him stay with all the wing talent he’d end up taking minutes from. Justise Winslow, Matt Jones, Grayson Allen, Semi Ojeleye, Rasheed Sulaimon. I wanna see those guys play.

imAboutDatActionParticipantwow, forgot Matt Jones was over there. gonna be tough for him to get minutes over there regardless if Parker returns or not.

theprophetParticipanti’m really 51/49 he stays. i know he was quoting on espn news at one point about how going to the league now could help him financially, but said he nor his parents really need it. he also mentioned how he likes duke. going usually pays off in the long run, and i believe he is aware of that.

theprophetParticipantyeah, and the crazy thing is, to me he’s the best prospect of both classes. next year he might have an opportunity to show off his skill set at 3 different positions under arguably the best coach in college basketball with perhaps the most loaded incoming freshman of the upcoming class. i doubt it would happen, but if you want a bold (remind you bold, not what i actually believe but bold) prediction would be that a jabari duke team next season could go undefeated.

I.C.Y.U.NV.MEParticipantOooh any time the word "undefeated" is said its definitely a bold statement. I slightly disagree but I won’t knock it. Undefeated, very very unlikely but anything can happen with a squad like that. You never know. I’d say 1-3 loses going into the tourney. As far as draft, the only person I can see challenging him for #1 is Jahlil Okafor. Karl Towns has the potential to but I think he’ll be overshadowed by UK’s stacked front court. Not saying he won’t be good, he just won’t stick out enough to go numero uno.

BajeebzParticipantWhat do you think the conversation would be like between Coach K and Parker? Maybe it goes something like this…
INT. COACH K’S OFFICE –DAY
(Coach K sits at his desk. He’s on the phone, yelling.)
Coach K: I told you for the last time, Laettner, I don’t have an assistant job for you! I don’t care if you’re having financial difficulties. No, USA basketball doesn’t want you, either. Nobody does, Laettner. Nobody.
(A knock on the door. Jabari Parker enters. Coach K quickly changes his tune.)
Coach K: Great talking with you too, Christian. Say hi to family. God bless.
(Coach K hangs up the phone, waves Jabari in to the office.)
Jabari: Is this a bad time, Coach?
Coach K: Jabari, come in. Sit down.
(Jabari sits. Coach K wipes his red sweaty face with a handkerchief. Blows his nose. Leaves the dirty hanky on the desk )
Coach K: Looks like you’ve got a big decision to make for yourself.
Jabari: I don’t know what to do, Coach.
Coach K: You wanna go, don’t you, Jabari?
Jabari: I don’t know coach. Maybe?
Coach: It’s okay if you wanna go. Go if you wanna go.
Jabari: Okay, Coach, I think I’ll go. Thanks
(Jabari gets up to leave. Coach K chimes in.)
Coach K: But I want you to remember something, Jabari. I want you to listen to me now when I say this. Who knows what’ll happen to you out there, really? I mean anything can happen. Look at Laettner, do you think he’d go back and trade his legendary standing at duke for a few more mediocre NBA seasons? I don’t think so.
(Jabari looks confused)
Jabari: But I’m a top 3 pick, Coach.
Coach K: Bobby Hurley was the 7th pick–car crash. Jay Williams was number 2–bike crash. William Avery left and two months later his face was on the back of a milk carton. Listen Jabari, I’m not trying to tell you what to do, but honestly, bad things happen to NBA players. It’s a fact of life, Jabari. And that’s what I’m here to do; give you the facts.
Jabari: Uh, thanks Coach.
(Coach K begins shuffling through his desk pulling out letters by the handful. He holds them up for Jabari to see)
Coach K: You see these. Letters of intent. Tyus Jones. Justise Winslow. Grayson Allen. And don’t forget your buddy, Mr. Okafor. Do you know what all this means, Jabari?
Jabari: uh, no Coach. What?
(Coach K throws the papers high in the air like a madman.)
Coach K: Nothing!!! Nothing at all, unless you come back to Duke next season.
(An awkward pause. Coach K grabs the hanky, blows his nose again.)
Coach K: But you should go, if that’s what you wanna do. I’m here to help you Jabari, not make the decision for you.
(Jabari thinks for a moment; a little frightened by the whole ordeal)
Jabari: You know what Coach? I think I’m gonna stay.
(Coach K stands up. walks around the desk to Jabari. puts his arm around him, and leads him to the door)
Coach K: I knew you’d make the right decision. And you what? I’m going to talk to the university about getting the two scheduled meals bumped up to three. We can’t have our student athletes starving, can we?
Jabari: Gee, thanks Coach.
(Coach K shoves Jabari out the door. Coach K moves back to his desk, sits. He picks up the phone dials.)
Coach K: Doris, I’m ready to see Rodney Hood now. please send him in.
FADE OUT…..Well, at least that’s how I imagine the meeting going….

OhCanada-ParticipantIf he was staying he wouldnt air a "decision" he would just come back because nobody is gonna watch the "Jabari Parker decision" twice. These conferences are made to draw attention to the player and sell his potential marketability.

Jester87ParticipantMarcus Smart did the same and came back last year. So did Doug McDermott.
0- Posted on: Tue, 04/15/2014 - 4:14am #889608

vulture711ParticipantSmart won’t go any higher this year than he would have last – probably lower plus got his character called into question. Doug stayed and went from a mid-late to an early mid 1st rounder…fine. Parker is already a Top 3 pick…..staying won’t change that – he’ll be a top 3 pick next year. There isn’t a huge salary difference between 1 & 3.
To me – staying is a mistake. He can’t really move up, he already has an NBA ready game. All that can happen is to the downside – hurt, puts up the same numbers so his upside is questioned, regresses
All the risk is in coming back not leaving. Put your head on straight

WalkaFlockaParticipantParker said to the AP that his decision will be based purely on "where he can grow the most".
I highly doubt he can develop any better in college than he can in the Association at this point in time.
If this were the sole reason of debating NBA vs. college, I think he’s gone, but this kid isn’t all about the money, so I still wouldn’t be shocked if he does return.

ashock34ParticipantJust the way he phrased his comment in that " I will talk with coach K. and decide on what is best for my growth as a player." Obviously, any bball mind will tell you that if he is looking to grow as a player he must go to the next level. It would be different if he was not as polished as he is but he is at the top of his game in college and the next challenge is at the pro level. Also, lets not forget, he has the most legitmate shot at being number one depending on the team drafting. Bucks really need a center. Philly really needs a perimeter presence as does Orlando. Folks it all about the $$$$$$.

Ghost01ParticipantAs a Duke fan, I hope he goes pro.
He’s a guaranteed top 3 pick, he is very NBA ready, and Coach K’s offense didn’t do a ton of favors for him. I know Duke would be stacked next year, but don’t play for free.
