WizardofOzParticipantI think Allen Iverson should and will sign with the Miami Heat. This is what Iverson said on July 5.
“I want to return to the NBA this season, and help any team that wants me, in any capacity that they feel that I can help. I’m disappointed, and I owe my fans more than what they have seen of me the last couple seasons.”
It finally sounds like Iverson’s had the dose of humble pie that he needs to become a successful NBA role player into his late 30s. He’d be the perfect fit for the Miami Heat if he’s willing to accept any role, including a bench role.
For the Miami Heat, this signing would be about helping the team and giving a storied NBA veteran a real, final chance to earn an NBA ring. But Iverson would still be able to contribute enough to justify his presence on the roster.
Iverson is not the scorer he used to be, but he’s still got the potential to be a highly productive bench scorer. It’s hard to imagine him not willingly accepting any amount of money to join the Heat and have his best chance at a title in a decade.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI don’t see Iverson taking the NBA ( not vet) minimum

Scottoant93ParticipantNot because of AI because he was a dominant scorer and allstar at one time but because the heat would just be overdoing it adding a former great player to a group of superstars. If ego would ever become an issue of Miami Heat adding AI would make it worse. Funny how everyone wants to be a Miami Heat player Now.

esperanzafleet69Participanti think iverson on the heat would be a great fit.. alot of the players on the team look up to him and are fans… and with james bosh and wade already there.. i think theres VERY little he could do to effect their chemistry negatively… and he already said last year hed play for any amount….

MagikKnickParticipantI wonder if Pat Riley can convince David Stern to allow the Heat to play with two basketballs…

Imaking6004ParticipantTwo basketballs? I think they should be pushing for 4.

sheltwon3ParticipantI would love to see AI on the Lakers. I think having 4 guys that are ball dominate may be two much and 3 of those guys are better with the ball in their hand creating stuff. In LA it would be Kobe and him and pretty much everyone else is either a post player or someone that can spot up. Artest has not really gotten the opportunity to do more than that but I guess he could also get his touches of running the offense as point forward or posting up smaller guys.

llperezit has been tough watching him these past few seasons. Im so used to the guy who backs down from no one and goes heads up with the elite gaurds in the league. You can tell he still wants to do that, but he just doesnt have it in him anymore. Some guys can age gracefully and accept not being the man, but it just doesnt seem to fit AI.

Fresh_The_FanParticipantPat Riley would be out of his mind to offer Iverson a contract. While I definitely respect Iverson’s reputation as a scorer in this league, realistically speaking, the Heat just don’t need Iverson after acquiring so many potent scorers through free agency. We all know that the bulk of their scoring is going to come from the “Three Kings” and there just isn’t enough possessions to go around for Iverson to fit in. This is true, and so is the fact that even bigger than LeBron’s ego, may be Iverson’s. A.I. has already proved to us (fans) that he wants a significant role, even at this stage of his career. That’s not happening with this Heat team, especially since they’ve filled their roster who role players who are suited to playing around Bosh, Bron, and Wade. I just don’t see A.I. being as productive, and even willing, to settle for a lesser role AND MONEY to join this stacked Heat team. That’s just not the type of player, or person, that A.I. is.
