but I HATE the charge call……it’s abused by defenses and it totally negates driving to the hoop ESPECIALLY in college ball because they don’t take flopping into account when making a call as much as the NBA does…..the NBA is atleast trying to make a stand against it….but because of charging in college bball you almost CANNOT drive the ball all the way to the hoop and score in the halfcourt because someone is gonna get there and flop. You have to stop and pop or pull up for a floater. I just wish the charge call was completely ABOLISHED and if you don’t wanna get ran over man up and get in that weight room….we don’t call charges when we play in the street or at the Y and no one has a problem….no one BLATANTLY tries to run anyone over…..i just DON’T LIKE IT go up and make a play on the ball instead of just running there to fall….

As an idea calling charges is just fine. But I agree with you completely. The problem is it’s being abused by defenses to the point that players instead of moving their feet and fighting for position they plant trying to draw a call. That’s not good defense..

I think the rule is good and shouldn’t be abolished. But I definitely don’t like seeing the defender get the benefit of the doubt every damn time in college. The worst is when the shooter is already leaving the floor and his momentum is going up and the defender is still moving into place so by the time the contact occurse the defender is set and they call the charge but what is the offensive player supposed to do? Change directions in mid air?

that the rule is good IN THEORY but never plays out that way….the rule is there to make sure players try to go around defenders and not through them…..it just doesn’t play out that way and defenses make plans and practice running up and getting position to EXPLOIT the call…..getting rid of the call may be extreme but that would eliminate this problem completely….the nba is doing a much better job though.

the charge call has no place in today’s game with the athletes that are playing today. sure, when the max vertical of the dude going to the rim was 20 inches it wasn’t that big of a deal. now, you figure at 6’6 player has a 36 inch vertical and whose legs are 3 feet long when the dude gets undercut by a charge he’s falling onto something hard as rock from 6 plus feet. it exists in college in its current form because people want to see parity and the charge call negates the athleticism of the top tier players. it’s why i hate duke, or more precisely coach k. the idea that you want to teach your kids to deceive the referees by selling calls (and have it be a HUGE part of your coaching scheme) and flopping on charges is why i personally hate duke because he does it more than anyone.

It’s abused much more in 2k than it is in real life, lol. One of my friends used to piss me off a lot because he takes charges at half court, so now I’m in this habit of taking charges left and right, but it is an art, I’ve never taken a charge in real life, so I have a lot of respect for the art of how it’s done, it’s not easy to know when to get to your spot and when not to.

I swear everything in college is a charge, but yes I totally agree that the charge is stupid in way… It’s not even real defense, it’s just taking a chance of getting the bak by standing still and falling over.

IMO there shouldn’t be a offensive foul unless the offense fouls them, not because the defense gets in the way and flops
