Did anyone else not know he has only one eye? I always knew he had trouble with his eyes but I always just thought his right eye was just a lazy eye. But it turns out he is actually blind in that eye and wears a prosthetic eye. Bur anyways ways, if he does end up improving his game do you think this will end up hruting his NBA future a lot? I think so.

To many it wasnt a secret,ESPN did a report on him during his freshman year and he mentioned it,thats where i 1st heard it…..But it doesnt seem to affect his shooting..Teams value bigs whose shooting can spread the floor….

The concerned should be about his slender frame and inconsistency….

Kinda joking here, but maybe it’s a reason he’s such a good shooter as a big. Doesnt everyone wink into the cross hairs when going hunting?

We have known about it at least since he has been at Baylor, so it was not a secret. Definitely do not think it helps, that is for sure. It is hard to say it kills him as a prospect, though it has to be a concern. He has not looked any better this year as far as his all-around development is concerned. Plus, while the ESPN story does of course play to his being able to get by without the peripheral vision in his eye, it is hard to believe teams would not try to kill him with that knowledge.

As Rudeboy says, his frame and inconsistency/passivity are bigger concerns. Though I do believe the people who were always ripping on Draft.net for having him so low on the draft board are given another reason why that might have been. He has height, can shoot a bit, put it on the floor some and is not a horrible athlete. Still looks really skinny and his rebounding this year has been quite shaky. Do not buy that this is due to having rebounders around him either, it is not a good sign.

He seems to be taking it in stride. Very hard to just play at off as not at least being a bit of a concern, not to mention possibly affecting his draft stock to being relegated to late first round at best, especially if he comes out this year. His being a mid 2nd rounder, as he is ranked now, does seem out of the question in the least. As much as you want someone to stretch the floor, you want your big man to handle physical play. Doubt Austin is giving teams much confidence in his ability to do so at the NBA level, or put on the weight to do so in the future.

People have played sport at an elite level with sight in only one eye. I recall Leroy Burrell who was an Olympic and World Championship relay gold medalist and former 100 metre world record holder being classed as clinically blind in one eye. For Basketball it is different as a player needs to see the whole court to know who is around him on either defence or offence so I could see this causing Austin some issues with a potential NBA career.

Chris Otule has the same thing at Marquette. Apparently its a big adjustment for teammates passing him the ball. The issue with depth perception and not being able to see almost half his field vision makes it tough to catch. Im assuming its the same for Austin at Baylor and can’t help his stock

I didn’t know that…he seems like a pretty good prospect to me he also seems to be a bit too cocky though.
