I keep hearing that this is the worst draft in 10 years, so I decided to do a little archiving to see how bad it really is. I looked at the 2006 draft and it may actually be worse than 2009’s. Here is the 2006 lottery along with some notables. I appologize if I take up too much space here.

    1) A. Bargnani – solid 3rd year
    2) L. Aldgride – Pretty good starter
    3) A. Morrison – enough said.
    4) Tyrus Thomas – solid role player
    5) Sheldon Williams – Is he still in the league?
    6) Brandon Roy – All star
    7) Randy Foye – solid starter
    8) Rudy Gay – Pretty good starter
    9) P. Obryant – Oh my god? Why?
    10) S. Sene – Sorry to add fuel to the fire for you Sonics fans.
    11) JJ Reddick – Solid role player off the bench. (I know what your thinking, but I thought he made some
    nice plays against the Lakers)
    12) H. Armstrong – Was he really drafted this high?
    13. T. Sefolosha – Diddo.
    14) R. Brewer – Solid Starter
    * notables outside the lottery – Rondo (21st) and P. Milsap (47).

Rondo is arguably the 2nd best player in this draft. If I’m not mistaken, none of the other players outside of the lottery and the notables are nothing more than solid role players off the bench. 2006 has one all star in Roy, another future all star in Rondo, and a few good starters. 2009 is very short on big men with Blake Griffin being the only surefire pick. 2006 had a lot of bigs drafted high, but compare Griffin to the 2006 centers and powers forwards. He will definitely be a better player than Bargnani, Thomas, S. Williams, O’bryant, Sene, Amrstrong, Milsap. Aldrige is more polished offensively, but I think Griffin will actually be better because of his toughness and work ethic. 2006 was especially weak at pg’s with Rondo being the only one currently starting, where there may be at least 5 this year starting right away.

To, me this year’s draft overall looks stronger than 2006. Please reply if you have any questions, comments, or constructive criticism.

Well 09 might not be worse than 06, but I cant see it being any better.

I think this draft has more potential. The 2000 might be the worst EVER. Only good players out of that draft were K-Mart, Mike Miller, Hedo Turkoglu, and Jamal Crawford.

    ZERO Superstars……

this draft is one of the worst in the last few decades. Everyone likes to look at the best possible scenario when they look at this draft, but reality is a lot of these guys will fail. We don’t know who, but it happens every year so it is innevitable. There are absolutley no gaurantees outside of Griffin. I watched plenty of pac 10 guys like Harden, DeRozan, Hill, Holiday, and while I think they all can be good, none of them are locks to have great careers.

This is a Good draft at first i thought it was weak but as you an see this year bench players and role players are just as important as stars ala lebron and the cavs. You need good bench players to compete look at the rockets.I think this draft does have 1 to 4 poteinal star players but you cant tell yet let them develope some more. harden, and curry made teams make speacilly made defenses to stop them and still good great numbers now imagine in the nba where they will have more freedom because the defense wont focus on an unproven nba player.

I have to give myself props for that draft, I told everybody I could that BRoy should have been at worst the #2 pick(I did’nt know much about Bargani). That one made me feel smarter then a lot of GM’s

The stars might be few from this draft, but there will be a lot of productive players that come out of it; especially at PG. Plus, I think a higher peercentage of 2nd rounders will pan out than usual.

I am so glad the Knicks lost there first round pick due to a dumb trade, LOL. I can only imagine what Isiah would have done. This draft I think will be a lot better than people are making it out to be. I am optimistic some of these lottery picks will become all-stars, by some I mean 5-7.

rudy gay could become an all star so that is 3 future all stars

I think this draft is about even with 06 with the slight edge to 09

Your right but can’t judge a draft solely on 3 years some of these guys are All stars
Did the age limit rule have anything to do with the draft being weak?

Brandon Roy could be better than any guard in this draft easy.
    Gay – 20 pt scorer
    A. Bargnani, L. Aldgride, Rondo, Millsap, Foyr – just starting to hit their stride.
Brewer, Sefolosa, Tyrus Thomas – solid potential

Farmar, Novak, Shannon Brown, Carney, Williams, JJ Reddick, Lowry – very good bench players

Gibson, Powe – have had great playoff games in Conf Finals & Finals.
Sergio Rodriguez – will be better with more playing time

Too many foreign players most of them don’t pan out besides the Brazilian and Spanish team ones
    The rest nothing special.

I think this year’s draft is somewhat like in the 2006 maybe because teams are scrambling and fans are confused as to which team will draft who… Exluding Blake Griffin who is the top 1 pick, all the players and decisions in this draft is unpredictable(which can be very dangerous). 2006 was unpredictable. Who would’ve thought Bargnani would go number 1???? Nobody right? I thought Brandon Roy should have gone higher than 6… I thought LaMarcus Aldridge might stick with the Bulls but they traded him for Tyrus Thomas… Rajon Rondo surprised a lot of people… and there isn’t much to expect in that draft class… Even Adam Morrison was mocked to go number 1 in this website (Yes, I’ve watched this website since 2006)… Who knows, this year will be just like 2006… Blake Griffin will go number 1 but people will get surprised if the Clippers will trade him somewhere else and end up with Thabeet on their unfortunate franchise…(LOL)

But anyways, this draft is unpredictable… Danny Green could even go to the 1st round… Guys like Tyreke Evans could land in the late first round… All I can say is just expect the unexpected…

I know this draft right now looks pretty weak, but in my opinion its hard to rate these guys as NBA players when they havent even been drafted to a team. I think we will have to wait a few years to actually see how they are progressing. Now I know that we cant compare them to the ’96 draft or the other great ones, but this could be an excellent draft class down the road.
