While creating my mock draft, after the lottery where I had guys like Embiid, Randle, Vonleh, Gordon, and Payne get picked I noticed that there weren’t a lot of PF/C that are locks to go in the mid-late 1st round. There’s a few international guys like Capela and Nurkic. However, I’ve heard Capela’s stock has taken a hit and now he might slide out of the 1st round. I don’t know much about Nurkic, but he seems to be mid-late 1st in most mocks.

When it comes to college prospects, there’s Stokes, Jefferson, Pat Young, O’Bryant, McAdoo, Reddic, Benimon, and Alec Brown. It might be a bit harsh, but I’m not sure if any of those guys are 1st round talents.

There’s also guys like Early who’s listed at SF/PF on this site, but I don’t think he plays the 4 ever. Also, Jerami Grant could maybe play the 4, but still wouldn’t be a post presence.

With there not being many locks for the 1st round at the PF/C after the lottery, which big men do you see landing in the 1st round? Or do you see teams that need a big man trade out of the 1st round and try to grab one in the 2nd?

To a point yes, but I’m not talking about the elite big men, I’m talking about the guys that will most likely be role players. There are usually guys that are at least projected to be picked in the mid-late 1st round. In the mock draft for the site Adreian Payne is the only legit PF/C getting taken in the 1st round after Gordon goes 12th.

 I think that people see this draft class as weak in big men due to the lack of names in the draft but I think years down the road, we will see this draft class as being strong in big men. I think that Randle, Vonleh, Gordon, Nurkic, Capela, Payne, and Embiid will all be at least rotation guys and that’s not including Saric who can develop as either a 3 or a 4 depending on where he goes. 7 rotational bigs in the first round would be a massive success.

 After a strong performance in the PIT, Western Michigan’s Shayne Wittingham and St Joes’ Ronald Roberts have helped themselves and could be in the mix for combine invites now.

Whittingham is a mobile 6’11" 240 lb stretch 4, who showed off his range at the Portsmouth, and Roberts is a top flight 6’8" athlete who put on a show, as well.

Yes, this class is weak at the 5 spot, but add these two to your list of players. I think their still on the outside looking in as far as the draft is concerned, but they have NBA translatable skills and will at the very least be on a SL roster.

In this draft there is the Top 25 or so (25-30ish) then EVERYBODY ELSE. 

The majority of the second round will be based on FIT.  Teams should get a guy that can contribute on a cheap contract. 

Stokes, McAdoo, and Young should all be drafted.  Not top 20 though, but somewhere after that (until the end of the second round).  Young is a 4/5 enforcer type.  Stokes is a wide body bully who can score inside.  McAdoo is a lanky, athletic tweener at the 4/3 spot who projects (hopefully) as an energy guy off the bench.  Each guy can be a "backup 4" in the mold of a Nick Collison, Taj Gibson, or a prime Darrell Arthur, but it depends on what a particular team needs.  If they need more paint points, go with Stokes.  If they need additional help at the five, then I think Young is the guy.  McAdoo is the player for teams who need a live body at the four spot, but also some help at small forward.  McAdoo is probably the better up-tempo guy too.

All three are in the group of "best bigs in the draft after Adreian Payne".  If Alex Poythress comes out then I would assume he would be in this category too.  You could call it the Cheap Front Court Depth Tier.
