Alot of people love them some John Wall and Ricky Rubio, and I have been a fan and critic of both throughout their NBA careers, watching both struggle to improve parts of their game and helping their teams reach the playoffs has been disappointing but they still get the benefit of doubt from me and others and are viewed as highly valuable PG’s going forward…

My big question is this, is the rookie of the year to be Michael Carter Williams already as good if not better than Wall and Rubio?

His stats have been very impressive thus far and his vast improvement from college has to prove his potential is limitless while already playing at an All Star level in his 1st season…Wall and Rubio haven’t improved their outside shooting in the 4 years they’ve been in the NBA, MC. WILLIAMS has already proven to be a better outside shooter than both his older counterparts and can only improve ala Rose and Westbrook…

Wall’s incredible athleticism gives him the edge ..He’s the better slasher and scorer out of the 3….He’s working to improve his halfcourt play and outside shooting..

Rubio is a little too unselfish..At times he doesnt even look to score..Surprisingly he has a tough time finishing at the rim…Some of Rubio’s problem might be in the system the T Wolves run..Alot of their players are struggling shooting the ball….Their schemes and spacing isnt working and causes them to take alot of contested shots..The T Wolves rank dead last in mid range shooting..Plus dealing with a variety of nagging injuries have slowed him…..

I have only seen about 4 games this year of MCW and I can tell you he’s just as bad of a shooter as John Wall and Rubio…   And if you don’t believe me, the stats back me up…  It’s a little too early to say he’s better than a player like John Wall when their stats look almost identical (even John Wall’s rookie stats).   The hope is he can improve his shot, but has John Wall (he’s gotten better at it though) improved that much?  If we speaking on the future then yea he seem promising.   But lets give it a little time because he can still hit the rookie wall or ppl can get his tendencies down by the second half of the season..

Haven’t seen too much of Ricky but I looked at his percentages… OMG….

I would say that he is better than Rubio but not Wall yet. Jim Boheim hid MCW’s skill set and now look at him. Dude can hoop, gotta work on his jumper though.

What exactly was hidden at Syracuse? MCW had the ball in his hands and was the primary shot creator for a really good team. His numbers through 24 games are pretty close to identical. Minutes, steals, assists, blocks, rebounds, percentages. Only difference is relatively speaking he is playing with less talent in lower leverage situations and he has to shoot more.

Rubio is an incredible passer..His passing instincts rank among some of the all time best…But his lack of shooting and being too unselfish is holding him back from being great..Even though he’s not where he should be,he is still listed among the league’s best pgs..Thats an indication of how good he is and how good he can become…

He looks better than Rubio, but let’s not forget that:
    A) Rubio looked awesome in his first season in a team that was much better than this year’s Sixers (ok, definitely not a big achievement) before hitting the rookie wall. Let’s see how he’s going to do once opponents get to know him and his weaknesses (especially outside shot) better. He started on a very hot streak, but he shot just 17.6% on 3s in december and he has made only 21.4% of his 3 pointers this month. It’s a small sample (he played only 6 games last month) but we didn’t know him as a shooter so it wouldn’t surprise me if he continues with poor shooting.
    B) the Sixers play a fast paced game and that (plus the fact they don’t have more than 5 legit Nba players) inflates stats a lot. Guys like Spencer Hawes, Evan Turner, Thaddeus Young are all having career years. How would his stats translate in a team in which he doesn’t have the chance to run on every possession? I guess his shortcomings as a shooter would be more exposed.

I think he might have an edge on Rubio, mostly because he’s a better finisher while the spaniard is hopeless at the rim. I think Rubio is more creative and probably funnier to watch when he plays well, though it can be painful seeing defenders constantly leaving him open. I’d still take Wall anyways both for his current abilities and for his potential. Anyways, a funny thing that has to be pointed out when it comes to evaluating their upside is that while Rubio and Wall have been in the Nba for a few years, they’re actually only one year older than MCW.

Wall is a beast, he will always get that nod, because of his superior physical gifts, with Wall it’s really this simple: When his jumper is falling he’s just as dominant as anyone in the NBA, you cant stop the guy when his jumper isn’t falling you can only hope he makes mistakes, but when his jumper is on he’s a bad man, and he can pass the heck out the ball.

Rubio IDK I haven’t watched much of Rubio to make that call, but MCW is very good nonetheless.

The one thing I’m always impressed with Michael Carter-Williams is the fact that he posts impressive stats that sometimes near triple-double levels. True, his shooting is very poor, as was pretty public during his scouting and combine experience, but he’s also a great defender who’s taller and is willing to put his nose in any situation. He isn’t near Wall’s level as a #1 player on the team, but I think he’s been the second-best on the 76ers this year to Thad Young. MCW posts good assist numbers and even good rebounding due to his lanky stature. He’s better than Rubio, I’m not even regarding him.

I think it is really tough to judge a guy putting up impressive numbers on a bad team in his rookie year. We’ve seen lots of guys do it and not get much better after or even regress. MCW has the tools to be a fantastic pro but I need to see the improvement year after year. We saw a great rookie year from Tyreke Evans and he hasn’t gotten any better. John Wall was not improving before this year but still has a lot of work he can do to get better.  Point is that MCW is getting the chance to do this on a bad team where he can live through mistakes. He’s not better than Wall and it is close with Rubio. I’ve never been a Rubio fan but he has been good.
