Jrue Holiday has seemed to be the mystery of this draft. People have him going anywhere from 4 to as low as the mid 20s (yes I have seen mocks with Jrue in the mid 20s). I am just asking what you guys feel about Holiday if he is really worth being picked as high as number 4, or if he is a better value pick outside of the lottery. As a Knicks fan I don’t want him to be picked by the Knicks at #8, I would rather have Jonny Flynn or Jordan Hill if either is around. Let the comments begin.

He is a borderline 2nd round pick in my opinion, he isnt as good as sone people seem to think. They bring up his size, and he is stuck between positions, his flashes, and convince me that theyre arent thousands of other players that flash potential, and his defense and hustle, and convince me you cant pick up an undrafted free agent that will hustle and defend. He is very overhyped and overrated

I think the reason he is projected so high is mainly b/c of the school. Think of some of the combo gaurds out of that system lately: Farmar, Westbrook, Ariza. He is just another guy in the line that was a 5 star recruit, that was held back due to the slow it down, defensive system he was in.

OK. Thats not fair. He did not do what we expected in College

    Did Derozan?
Did any of the othe upside guys? No

So if youre gonna throw Holiday under the bus, DeRozan, Clark, Jennings and Daye needs to go 20-31 then…..

I dont like Daye, Derozan, or Mullens and you cant honestly say I have ever praised them. But Brandon Jennings and (more so) Earl Clark get my respect because they have played at a higher level and/or was productive. Earl Clark played in the toughest conference in the country and played at a reasonably high level, and at least stood out. And Jennings because he is so naturally gifted, and I have no doubt he will succeed in the NBA having seen him play and watching him stand out like he has.

To say Jrue is overrated, fine, Though to say he is a borderline 2nd round pick is very ridiculous. Though I believe fordchd2010 said it best where you go to school plays a significant role. I don’t think Jrue will be a bad player or anything, I just see him better suited to be picked towards picks 12-18 rather than 4-8.

I know your a knick fan as well. Cool. But as a Knick fan, I would LOVE Holiday in our backcourt because he can work better as a PG and he plays Defense. Also, Donnie Walsh loves Defense. He brought Holiday in and both Dantoni and Walsh like him. I think he could control the Offense and could lock down a Defender…A la Russell Westbrook

Also, People who watch the college game love him. I was watching the NBA combine thing from a month ago and they said he could be National player of the year if he goes back…no lie

Why does the school you play for play a significant role? If your good your good, if your not then oh well. If you play for an unknown school and you prove you can play at a high level then why not look at them, and if you cant then oh well. but the school you attend shouldnt matter when deciding how good a player will be at the next level

Because…better players go to bigger schools. I mean how many times have we seen a player from small college state average 35ppg?

The SEC, Pac-10, Big East and ACC attract alot of good talent and the more good talented players that go to those conferences, the better the superstars will look.

If I thought a player was bad and went to big school and I thought a player was good that went to a small school…guess who I would choose, THE BEST PLAYER

Its not that more talented players go to bigger schools its just that bigger schools get more exposure. I mean seriously how many davidson games did you see on tv this year after steph curry took them deep in the tournament last year? I can only think of 1 where they played west virginia at MSG. ABC, ESPN and the like are always going to show Duke or UNC games before they show other small schools, even though they have good players. Look at Dionte Christmas or Derrick Brown, good players stuck in the A-10. Plus bigger schools have more to offer. Unless you want to be a star like Mayo did a good player will usually pick a big school even if it means he gets less playing time because he has a better chance to win a championship. And generally the leading scorers in the NCAA do come from small schools because they are really the only offensive option their teams have.

He is over rated, but is worth picking due to his upside. He wasn’t so impressive at UCLA and like Mullens should have returned to school for at least one more year. There are a lot of point guards that likely will contribute sooner. I like several more than Holiday, but would personally put him in the middle of the first round. My guess is he goes much higher. Maybe even #4 to Sacramento if Griffin, Thabeet and Rubio are off charts. Kings seem to love him and with Martin will not pick Harden, who is a much better player.

I agree with ckowalski on what he is saying because people are not going to watch teams that have a potential first round pick who play in a small conference. Very few people would watch Davidson-UTChattanooga on ESPN. I go to a CAA school, and I’ve seen Eric Maynor he’s the real deal and it’s been said that if it were not for his shot mechanics he would’ve played in the ACC. That being said guys coming out of these small conferences are coming out with chips on there shoulders, so watch out for them.

If Jrue gets picked 4 he is going to struggle mightily. He will have to play Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Tony Parker, Chauncey Billups, and Baron Davis and Eric Gordon, oh and Russell Westbrook around 24 times total. The same would apply for Ricky Rubio if he goes to Memphis. Though he will get minutes in Sacto, but Holiday is better fit on a team that has a PG who can groom him. He is not ready and knicksboy34 u said u heard if he went back he would be up for NPOY, he should’ve done that and became a top 5 pick w/o any doubters. I pray Flynn is not taken by Sacto, Flynn to the knicks make it come true.

Mullens only left b/c he comes from an extremely poor background, if the right team selects him and grooms him for 2-3 years he’ll be good in his 4th or 5th year as a pro. You can’t teach size.

Yes, Jrue is worth picking in the lottery because….He is smart, plays great defense, good ball handler. great size for his position, very young still hasn’t totally developed, lots of potential. Needs to work on his shooting but that will improve with time. UCLA held him back, trust me. He was stuck on a team with a lot of seniors and probably felt intimidated. He is a team player. The coach didn’t use his abilities correctly.

I disagree. He will stuggle on Offense but on Defense he will thrive. He could be a solid..player who could be great

He could in and be a 8-12ppg 4-5 rpg and 3-5 apg early…I mean he will be a good player.

That does sound like a good player but not really like a lottery pick. I think you want a little more production for what you would be spending on him if that’s all you’re getting out of him.

From a 19 year old? Sound like alot. He will also provide excellent Defense

and dont forget…Westpaul coached Payton and Johnson…he could teach this kid alot…

As a UCLA fan, I watched all his games last year, and I promise I won’t be biased when I say he should go top 10. He is still only 18 years old, and 8-3-3 while playing on a senior led top 25 team is not exactly embarrassing stats. He has size, speed, and athleticism. I’ve seen him make plenty of NBA type plays where he crosses guys over and finishes at the rim strong.

More then anything, while he may be a bust, he has a lot more potential them most of the guys considered lottery. I think this draft is very weak, and I have read articles where numerous NBA executives consider this to be one of the weakest drafts in decades. So I might be a little tempted to go ahead and take a risk on a guy who might not have proven himself, but has star potential.

He’s worth picking. Not in he first round but maybe a mid to late second round pick. I would say, he can be good has potential and can straight up ball. Just b/c he did not perform so well in College does not mean he can’t be good in the NBA.

Ok so wait let me get this straight. First you think the Pistons should take John Bryant at 15. Then you think LeBron is a bad player and that the rest of his team is awesome and he just didn’t get them involved. Now you think Jrue Holiday should be a mid to late second round pick? Have you even seen a basketball before? Tell me where you live I’ll send you one I honestly feel sorry for you.

He is. There’s a reason why scouts like his combination of size and skills. I didnt see him play much but if Hansborough is a first-rounder, then so is Holiday. Im not exactly sure why people are considering him top-10. Just goes to show how bad this draft really is.

Mel…your crazy..so if your lowering holiday

    Jennings should be moved down
    Rubio should be moved down
    DeRozan should be moved down
    Thabeet should be moved down

    ….potential adds a prospect like 10- 12 spots up in a draft/

You like Holiday more than most of us, fine. I like Flynn more than most people. Thabeet is a Center, Holiday is a Guard the two have nothing to do with each other’s stock. But I agree with the first 3 players you’ve mentioned. Holiday just is not worth the 4th pick in the draft, NBAdraft.net has him at 18 I think that is a solid spot for him.

I like Holiday alot for the Knicks. I want him as our 8th pick.

But! I thinks its unfair how thousands of Holiday posts are asking why is he in the draft when we have alot of high upside players in this draft (Thabeet, DeRozan, Curry, Evans, Hill etc.) I mean, come on…we need to stop killing this guy.

If the Knicks trade down for Holiday I would be fine with Holiday. That would mean though that Jonny Flynn and Stephen Curry are taken off the board.

I think we’re about to see the days of picking a guy in the top 5 purely based on “potential” end. The demand to win “now” is too great and there are players in every draft that can come in and make their team better right away. Think about it….a new GM comes in to a team and if that team hasn’t improved pretty significantly in say, 3 years, then that guy is gone. It’s too risky to take a guy like Holiday, Jennings, etc. that high as that player may not even be playing 20 minutes a game in their 2nd season. Sure, they could turn out to be great “someday”, but by the time “someday” comes around, that GM is out on the street. These days, owners and fans will only forgive a top pick playing poorly (or not playing much at all) for about a year. Then they start to get antsy. I’m just saying, that if “I” was a GM with a high pick, I’m going to be taking a guy who is almost certainly ready to contribute in year 1 or 2.
