cp33ParticipantI honestly don’t know, it does seem a little racist tho, even if the commissioner claims it isn’t….but what I know for sure this is going to fail big time. What do you guys think?

JoeWolf1I saw a special on nat geo or discovery about the KKK, and all the clan guys spoke the exact same way the guy proposing that league did, they use derrogotory terms like people of color, worry about being the minority, and associate anything regarding African American culture as un wholesome. This proposal is extremely racist, and it’s an attempt to bring segregation back to those who will pay to see it.

llperezyes, i see it as racist. I highly doubt it becomes anything serious though.

seecocoaballParticipantMaybe if his supporters were more straight forward in participating in minority environments then this stuff wouldn’t be happening. They kill me with this notion that you have to disown your entire past life and habits in order for them to accept you. I have to say, these people have a lot of issues. Their blind to the fact that this country was built on hate and most of the athletes that are talented, come from these environments and want a better life. At the end of the day, any athlete that exist on some Division 1 team, given the circumstances are unfortunate, that coach will reevaluate and ultimately the student-athlete will be dismissed. These players aren’t given keys to a Toyota straight out of high-school or on their birthday. African-Americans and other minorities are held to the standard that’s intolerant. Lebron James gets criticism because he doesn’t participate in the Slam Dunk contest… or better yet, he catches slack for putting shoes on that represents his sub-favorite City(New York). Who are these people… the new generation of racists. They need to stop it. I would like to see how half of these coaches manage on limited resources and non-qualifications.

sheltwon3ParticipantI saw this and was shocked. The NBA may be mostly black player but it is not an All African American league. Also a most of the African Americans in the league are pretty good on fundamentals. The game of basketball today has fallen as a whole away from fundamentals. I could name you like 100 NBA players who are black that have solid fundamentals. That was so racist i mean it is sad that we still live in a time where this garbage and hate can be put out in the open even with us having a black president.

llperezpeople need to understand that this is just a small minority of people and not get too caught up in the race issue. Idiots can come in all colors. It’s only embarrasing to those who participate in this so called league.

seecocoaballParticipantI wonder why Duncan is better than Brain Scalabrine? They need to stop feeding these White athletes breast milk. I tell you, every QB in the league gets his leg touch by Ray Lewis, they’re ready to question Lewis’ sub-conscious. Another example, what’s up with Larry Bird record, why he’s not getting sarcasm like Jordan and Thomas receives. Older Whites are inferior to the fact that African-Americans are becoming more political-conscious – – like it once was.

quinceyhodgesand still rtbt is no where to be found. he now loses credibility with me on the race issue

llperezwenich-nope, not just you. why is duncan better then scalibrine? I don’t know, maybe because duncan is the best pf of all time and scalibrine is a role pleyer. Just my thought though.

DeLaQuestParticipantIf I’m gonna watch any group of players–“all white”, “all black”, “mixed”, etc, I want to see some FLAIR, IN ADDITION to the fundamentals. That’s the point of basketball: the jazzy, creative element in it.
Who wants to watch a bunch of guys forced to play “fundamental” basketball only? I’m sorry, but white players do alley oops, behind-the-back passes, and between-the-leg dribbles too. We can’t go back to the pre-Cousy days–which wasn’t exactly “more fundamental” anyway.
The “fundamentals” of basketball have improved right along with the “flair”. They actually coexist and intermingle with each other. A simple one-handed pass used to be “show-boating”, but now it’s an effective way to get a pass off quicker. Please.
As far as the “white only” thing, if it’s legal and he wants to do it, he can throw his money away on something stupid like this for all I care. Maybe he’ll learn some kind of lesson. I’m saying all of this as a “white” former basketball player.

DeLaQuestParticipantI’m gonna start a league only for players who have Type-O-negative blood. Wouldn’t that be great?
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/20/2010 - 7:14pm #249238

JoeWolf1I’m going to start a league for women who own 3 or more cats. We could have our championship before the puppy bowl on Animal Planet.

DeLaQuestParticipantSweet, JoeWolf1. They’ll need SOME kind of professional gig to pay all of those vet bills.

sheltwon3ParticipantI lost a point for saying that what was going on is racist. It is. Let’s stop acting all like saying that is taboo. If someone or something is racist than it is. Saying that does not cause or should cause black and white people to beef with each other. Both fair natured black and white people need to agree that whoever this is is racist and needs to be shut down. White and Black people back in the time racism was bad marched side by side. This is not difference. If I offend someone for being honest. Sorry the truth hurts.

OrangeJuiceJonesParticipantTotally retarded and racist. He cites “players of color” (he must be 55+) grabbing their crotches and giving fans the finger as reasons to start an all-white basketball league. If I was at a game with a bunch of inbred, racist rednecks, the fear of somebody flipping me off or grabbing their crotch would be the last thing on my mind. Besides, how many times has something like that actually happened at an NBA game? Less than once a year, right?
And whenever I hear or see people argue about racial issues in the United States, a “white” person always brings up the “double standard” issue; the fact that black people have “exclusive” black organizations such as the NAACP and “their own television channel” (BET). They should try to actually watch BET or do some research on the NAACP. While the NAACP is predominantly black, the founding members of the NAACP were predominantly white, and there are numerous white and Hispanic members to this very day. Let me give you a rundown of predominantly white TV channels:
MTV, Fox, CNN, NBC, CMT, USA, HGTV, Lifetime, Oxygen, Logo, Food Channel, Pix, and who can forget HOLLYWOOD? As for organizations, how many non-white members are in the Aryan Brotherhood or the Ku Klux Klan?
The school system is predominantly white as well. Seriously, how many of you guys learned about A. Philip Randolph or Adam Clayton Powell or Sojourner Truth or Marcus Garvey or W.E.B DuBois while in high school? How about the kingdom of Timbuktu, or the Berbers, who were of African descent, who controlled large parts of Spain for over 700 years? None, right? All you heard about was Christopher Columbus, Franz Ferdinand, Juan Ponce De Leon, Amerigo Vespucci, and the Roman Empire, with some MLK and Harriet Tubman mixed in. As a black person, I just wish that we didn’t have any organizations geared towards any one race. I think that it would help to eliminate some of the hatred in this world. Of course, if racism ever ends, then we’ll just discriminate against each other’s nose width or weight or hair texture.

DeLaQuestParticipantOrangeJuiceJones,
Thanks for the stimulating post. Personally, I haven’t heard about the Berbers, but you’ve got me intrigued.
It is unfortunate some people will judge the entire population of young black male basketball players based on what a few guys do. They are allowing quick television shots to shape their perception of an entire group. People of all “races”(of course we are all the human race, so I hate using that word) must learn how the mediums of media manipulate their perception of “others”. But some people are incorrigible and only see what they want to see.
The NBA plays 82 games a season per team. Young men are being paid to be aggressive.Tempers flair. Sometimes bad things happen in this game or that game. But people blow things out of proportion. The Detroit/Indiana brawl was terrible. But roughly 6,750 NBA regular season games have been played since then without a similar incident.
If this guy wants to start some all-white league, and if it is legal, I guess he has the right to be foolish and fail. I seriously doubt there are any credible business men who would want anything to do with this. I don’t see this getting off the ground. There are still people around who lived through the era of “whites only” signs all over town. Just the very phrase brings up too much pain and embarrassment. I don’t see this league happening. At best it’ll become a little club with only familiy members of the players sitting in the stands.
