I think it should be Chandler Parsons if he finishes strong and leads his team to the playoffs.

All I know Kyrie Irving has the ability and makings of being an elite PG in the NBA. The kid is nice.

Should still be Kyrie, hes had one hell of a season despite missing a handful of games. but besides kyrie and rubio (season ending torn ACL) the only possible ROY candidates that should be taken seriously are Isaiah Thomas, Iman Shumpert and possibly Chandler Parsons – but it should really be between Thomas and Shumpert. these 3 have played consistenly throughout the whole season. although the stats dont necessarily show it sometimes, its their intangibles that help their teams somewhat succeed. others could include kawhi leonard, brandon knight, kenneth faried and possibly kemba walker and klay although kemba is has shown inconsistency and klay only has been showing up as of late.

I would go with King’s pg Isaiah Thomas all things being equal as he’s proven to be durable as a rookie while stealing the spotlite & starting pg job from the highly hyped Lottery draft pick Jimmer.

As a Rubio Fan, He Was Kyries Only Real competition. kyrie was the best scorer, one of the top assist man, and he was clutch while being the most efficent rookie. He had all the pressure on him and you can blame da injury to the shorten season for players lack of coming into the season in shape is why their bodies are wearing down the way they are.

No chance Isaiah Thomas or Shumpert or Parsons get it. They’ve all been nice for where they were taken, but Kyrie had this thing locked up the second Rubio went down, and even then he was still the favourite. The Cavs have fallen off since they traded Sessions and Irving missed games, but Kyrie is still the best rookie at the moment.

One thing that bugs me about the ROY award is that in recent times it invariably goes to PGs (with the exception of Blake Griffin, who far exceeded usual rookie play) because they have the ball in their hands more and are given more opportunity to show what they can do. I can’t help but wonder how Derrick Williams would have done if he were starting from day 1 and wasn’t fighting with Beasley and Johnson for minutes at the 3.

It seems it’s a lot harder for a non-guard to win ROY since PGs started being taken in the early lottery. Since Chris Paul, ever winner outside of Blake played at one of the guard spots during their rookie year (Durant was played at SG his first year).

Parsons is the MVP of a playoff team Irving is the 2nd best player on a whoresh1T team  if you factor in defense and extra games it is Parsons though the voters probably will rob him.

His only serious contender was Rubio.

Yes, he is. Say what you will about his missing games, the guy was head and shoulders the best rookie in the NBA this season. He was the man on his team and carried them to almost as many victories as they had last year through 46 games. Brandon Roy won the rookie of the year in 2006-07 playing 57 games (about 69% of the games in a 82 game season). He did so because he was head and shoulders better than any rookie that season, even those who had played in more contests.

Even if Kyrie does not play another game (and he still might), he would have played in the same amount of games percentage wise. Not too mention having an even better rookie season than Brandon Roy and having no real close competitor. You are saying a rookie that averages half of Kyrie’s PPG and shoots 52% from the line deserves the award because he is a role guy on a play-off team? Chandler Parsons has been a nice rookie and all, but unless he is shooting a ridiculous percentage from the field or averaging double digit rebounds, no. You may think Kyrie Irving may not be the best player down the line, but he is having the best rookie year of anyone in the NBA this season bar none.

Rubio was the only one who had a chance to unseat Irving.

Irving seems like a franchise player.  No one else in the draft yet does.

As much as I love Chandler Parsons’ game, and as much as he’s shocked me with his performance this year (I had him as a sleeper, but I didnt think he’d emerge this early) he’s not the best rookie.

Iman Shumpert is still a ballhog even though he’s calmed that down a smidge. He’s a great defender already as a rookie, which isnt a big surprise. But he’s too inefficient and erratic offensively. He’s not the best or most valuable rookie, not even close.

Isaiah Thomas has scored well and showed decent PG skills, and he’s real exciting to watch, he’s not the Rookie of the Year either.

Kyrie Irving has been better than all 3 and the rest of the rookies this year bar none. He can be a top player in the NBA really soon. I’m willing to bet you cant say that about any of the other 3 guys, not to discredit them though.

There are like 9 backup point guards better than Irving lol:  Dragic, Hill, Williams, Hinrich, Udrih all hands down better.  Then you got Andre Miller, Mo Willliams, Jamal Crawford and Maynor all probably a little bit better if you have the ball in your hands you will score and get assists Marbury could still get 16 and 7 on Cleveland.

Dede – Check percentages and try to watch some games. You’re coming off as incredibly ignorant here.  Hell, Crawford isn’t even really a backup 1 and Maynor’s out all year.  None of those guys are anywhere near the player Irving is now, despite most beingin or close to their prime and Irving being a rookie with a ton of room for growth.

Crawford was the backup point guard this year even if it was not his natural position.  He played more point minutes than your average backup one did.  Maynor is hurt I know that, so was Irving at the time of the thread, well when healthy Eric Maynor was clearly the better player Maynor actually closed games over Russell Westbrook are you old enough to remember that pal?  Kyrie Irving never in a million years would close a game over Russell Westbrook.

Ok I’ll give it to Irving now, he came back from injury big win over the Knicks, and Houston is going to miss the playoffs, but dont act like missing 20 games means nothing?  The Bulls have the best record in the league is Derrick Rose an MVP candidate?

Kyrie Irving is one of the best closers in the NBA.
