valentineWhere is this guy hiding? Does he play any basketball at all or just practice in an empty gym where absolutely no-one can get near him. I know he hired an agent that is famous for keeping his clients under the radar, but this guy is extremely elusive, even now that he is living in the U.S.
Last I heard, he’s in L.A. between now and the draft. I can’t recall a prospect that didn’t play any organised basketball for an entire year leading up to the draft (excluding school championships in Australia).
Is it possible that….
1) He is such a generational talent (eg Kobe, Jordan, Lebron) and only a few people know about it…and there’s a conspiracy going on behind the scenes to ensure he ends up in a big Market (eg L.A.).
OR
2) Is he just worried about either getting injured
OR
3) Worried about scouts exposing flaws in his game that will reduce his draft stock.
Surely if he is really that good, he’d want the world to know about it so he can get his draft stock up to #1 instead of 5 of 6. That could be 10 million dollars over the course of a rookie deal.
Thoughts?

he_gets_bucketsParticipantWent to a school nearby him(Im a few years younger then him) and I grew up watching him play. I would say its probably a combination of 2 and 3. He is giving up his college eligibility by going into the draft off the bat, and thats throwing away 4 years of basketball, and I dont think he wants to have that be for naught by getting injured or having his stock plummet by being in scouts eyes and having them slowly pick apart his game.

theballerwayParticipantThe truth is people/scouts/media seem to really believe he is or can be that sort of talent. In all fairness If hes being projected as top 10 at the very worst any games he plays in are a chance for weakness to be exposed. He has managed to avoid the being picked apart by playing in Australia why damage your value. I cant imagine he will play in the hoop summit this year either.
My guess is theyve got the kid in the gym getting his weight up nd preparing him for the combine and predraft workouts. These are the only time he can get exposed in any way probably.
Hes in a unique situation he’s bloodlines and to allure. That being said Im very skeptical but I look forward to seeing what weight hes at when he resurfaces at as hes so slim.

R.JLewisParticipanthe has had andrew bogut giving osme advise and bogut did tell him skipping college can be good for your stock and prevent injuries. also some players who go to college dont fit into college style basketball but fit into NBA style basketball so why risk going to college and not playing your best basketball when your stock is already so high.

rileymcshea3ParticipantIf I were him I’d do the same thing. His draft stock is already pretty good with out even getting that much exposure. So why mess it up? He’s from Australia and probably could care less about the NCAA.

frogmanParticipantI know this is pedantic but the expression is "couldn’t care less" if someone could care less that means they there is interest in the subject. Sorry but things like that annoy me.

IhateusernamesParticipantWiggins and parker are that type of "talent" and theyre getting leapfrogged by the newer, less known about Embiid.
I’m Sorry but NBA scouts are DUMB. They love a kid one minute, then because he has a minor flaw they fall out of love with him. They love the younger, newer, prettier girl so to speak.
Im not saying Embiid wont be everything they think he is, but he has only been getting analyzed this year. Wiggins and Parker have been getting disected for 3 years at least. I personally feel they are both safer picks with just as much "upside" as Embiid.
Anyhow I completely understand why Exum doesnt want scouts to pick him apart. I wouldnt let them fall out of love with me either.

RObin PadillaParticipantHe’s been seen at the UCLA campus working out. True though, he is really trying to be a downlow for now. His agent is trying to work his way into LA by being behind the radar and rumors are he will only have a few teams he will workout for this summer.

Memphis MadnessParticipantThe Lakers might be sitting in that 5-6 range. Maybe they are talking to him…
I could see him not wanting to go to Milwaukee or Cleveland or somewhere like that.

Lotto StudParticipantHow ironic will it be for him to be getting accustomed to the LA lifestyle right now, just to be drafted there 3 months from now.

Chilbert arenasParticipantRumor in LA is that he’s going to Eli Manning his way to the Lakers and doesn’t want another team drafting him. I can’t see Lakers passing up on Embiid, Parker, or even Wiggins if they get a top 3 pick though.

Lafferty DanielParticipantExum said that he would like to play for an NBA team that needs a starting PG, like the Lakers. I’m not sure why people are running with the notion that he and his agent are going to force their way onto the Lakers. If he gets drafted by Milwaukee or Orlando, he’ll also have a chance to start from day one.

Hector_Reyes_8ParticipantHe’ll start in LA from the start too because Kupchak never keeps good role players.

hbomb3300ParticipantI think with his Pre-Draft work outs he is going to make it very tough for teams to pass him up even in the top 3. Also, I have a strong feeling the NBA is going to find a way to get the Lakers a top 3 pick.

bluesoxParticipantIf Lakers get the #1 pick I bet they take Joel Embiid. The Lakers have build most of there championships around bigs and last time they picked in the lottot they took bynum. If they get the #2 pick they should take wiggins over parker.I think kobe could really push wiggins in to greatness. If the Lakers pick in the 4-7 range exum might be a good fit but he is unknow. If the Lakers still had jerry west he could tell if the kid had real game or not.

Purple-and-gold17ParticipantBut what do u do with the first pick of the draft if your the Lakers…do you still draft embid knowing Dantoni likes bigs that can shoot the J….I also like Embid for the first pick of the draft but not with Dantoni as a coach…I hope we get rid of this guy

omphalosParticipantEmbiid actually has decent range on his J, that’s part of what makes him such a sensational prospect.
