CJ Miles is a player that is really improving and could start for the Jazz this season. But the question is which position the 2 or the 3. Do you start both him and Bell and put him at the 3 or have him come off the bench for either Bell or AK?

Personally I would consider him more of a 2 who can play the 3 as well, but is better at the 2 than the 3. He is a great shooter, athletic, and an average defender. I watched him play a lot of the 3 last year (especially when AK got hurt and Brewer was traded) and I hated the fact that he was just too small for the 3, he is only 6’6. I thought that would quit this season and he would go back to playing the 2 now that Hayward is there. But after 3 preseason games, I once again see Coach Sloan using Miles as a 3.

What are thoughts about this, is Coach Sloan hindering his development by playing him at the 3 when he is really a 2, or is that truly his position?

If you put him at the 3, the Jazz will be in trouble. He’s just way too small and would be a liability defensively.

He guarded Anthony excellently last season in the playoffs.

6’6" 235 lbs is not that small.

I agree with gregoden08, I cringed last year when I saw Utah using Miles as a 3 instead of a 2. But I guess Sloan has confidence in him at the 3 but not so much at the 2.

The 2 and the 3 are interchangeable in the Jazz offense.

CJ Miles is a good defender when he puts his mind to it. It really makes no difference if he defends shooting guards or small forwards. It’s not like he gets overpowered by bigger players, but he does get beat off the dribble.

So why exactly would he make a better shooting guard?

He’s more of a SF than SG to me, but he can play both though. He’s not all that undersized for a SF really, especially since he’s like 225 and seems to have decent length at 6’6

He’s 6"6 232. He has shown the can play either position effectively. Salon might choose to bring him off the bench as a versatile bench player like in years past. But he could be the starting 2 guard this season. He’s more of a scoring threat, and brings some athleticism that bell doesn’t.
