r377ParticipantVery good coach who gets the most out of his players. Well respected and liked. The Celtics will be strong for the next few years.
Popp is getting older and the Spurs are on the decline.
Is Brad Stevens the next Popovich ?

ZouldiersParticipantNo, he is the one and only Brad Stevens.

OhCanada-ParticipantBrad Stevens made an amatuer mistake last night. Marcus Morris, Lebrons primary defender got 3 fouls in the 1st quarter last night. He got his 4th foul in the 2nd qaurter and his 5th foul in the 3rd qaurter. This should not have happened, Morris played soft and was not his usual aggressive self while on the floor which allowed James/Cleveland to get comfortable. This is was a coaching error.
I agree Stevens is an amazing coach but I mean come on. If Ty Lue or Dwayne Casey did this they would be torn to bits the next day for sure. Hes a great coach but he’s not perfect and I think the Boston players deserve at least some credit for the remarkable season theyve had despite injuries.

BeardedDragon84Participantit’s not an amateur mistake, it’s working out for him much more often than not. he’s making a calculated risk and it’s working.

Evan_MilbergParticipantRight now, he’s just a very good, promising young coach. That’s it. He’s been impressive in developing their young core and overcoming injuries to Irving and Hayward, but let’s wait for him to win a title before putting him on a pedestal.

cohenbc1ParticipantAlso Pop wouldn’t be Pop without R.C. Buford and Peter Holt. They didn’t blow it up during that 2000-02 Lakers threepeat, when Shaq and Kobe absolutely wiped the floor with the Spurs every year in the playoffs.
They didn’t blow it up between 2008-10, when the Spurs got a little worse every year and seemed to be falling slowly into mediocrity. They didn’t blow it up in 2011 when the resurgent, #1 seed Spurs lost in the first round to the #8 Grizz. They didn’t blow it up after the 67-win Spurs lost badly to the Thunder in the second round a couple years ago.
When you think about it, today’s Spurs are still the natural continuation of the Admiral-Duncan-Parker-Manu core established way back in 2002-03. Old players retire and new players become the "core," but it happens by evolution, not explosion.
Danny Ainge seems a lot less patient, to put it mildly. He took last year’s Eastern Conference finalists and got rid of all but four players from the squad. The Spurs have never done anything like that in 20 years.

ibe12ParticipantI see Stevens more as a young Larry Brown rather than Popovich. Time will tell of course but the way he’s able to get his players to buy into a system and how he’s able to out coach most NBA coaches reminds me of Larry Brown.

r377ParticipantBrad Stevens gets the most out of his players.
Isaiah thomas was all second team nba last season.
He developed Rozier, Tatum, Brown. How would they have faired if they went to Sacramento instead of Boston ?

BeastMode716Participanthe knows that & is trying to tamp it down
Stevens didn’t make any changes in that series – he just had the guys run his plays faster & he actually struggled in the games in Cleveland
I Luv Stevens – he’s a Very promising young coach – but he’s got a rotation of high lottery picks – are they young – some of them yes but that Boston team has very experienced top players
the NBA is a Players League – even Pop who in my opinion this year executed one of his Best seasons Ever can’t win in the playoffs w/ Super Star talent
Max Kellerman is on espn asking if having Brad Stevens as coach is "Better than having a Super Star"
And this is the problem when journalists engage in Hyperbole – there’s no where to go but more & more ridiculous bc these people are actually competing w/ Other Jounalists for Social Media exposure so I’m waiting for one of these D-Bags to say Stevens should be early induction Hall of Fame b/c it’s not about Stevens it’s about these ass clown access obsessed journalists getting noticed
