    The Washington Wizards and Dallas Mavericks have neared completion on a trade that will send Caron Butler(notes) and DeShawn Stevenson(notes) to Dallas in exchange for Josh Howard(notes), league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

    The teams were negotiating what other player would go back to Washington – Quinton Ross(notes) or Tim Thomas(notes) – but the talks weren’t expected to unravel the trade.

    So basically Josh Howard for Caron Butler, and other websites are saying this trade can go down as soon as the end of today…

    I think it’s an even deal for both teams. I think Caron Butler is still a very good player and is a good compliment to everyone on the Mavs.

    Howard represents an image that may be questionable for a team like Washington considering their saga with Agent 0, but he’s a good player as well and a borderline All-Star at his best. Hopefully he’s on his best behavior and healthy for Washington.

    All in all, this trade is pretty reasonable for both sides.

    i believe howard is coming off hte books after this season right? In that case good for both teams becasue caron is better then josh and he will help the mavs this year while the wiz get some cap relief.

    But I was reading on ESPN…Dallas wants Brendan Haywood as well…

    Either way…Dallas gets Butler and Stevenson who could be off the bench…Interesting

    If the Mavericks could get Haywood, I would love it. Two solid big guys in Damp and Haywood playing center. I would prefer Butler over Josh Howard any day.

    Saves Wiz money, cap space which they desperately need. Huge boost for Dallas. They get two good defenders as they struggle on defense, and Howard was really struggling. Great trade for both teams. Most trades don’t work nearly as well as this one should.
