I was talking with a friend about the clusterf*** in Cleveland, and one of the things that stood out was the story that players thought the team meeting (in which they learned Blatt was fired) was about Kevin Love being traded. That tells me right there that Love isn’t jelling with his teammates and people are frustrated with him to the point where they want him gone. Whether or not you agree with him making the team worse (I think he’s being horribly misused, IMO), the implication of that meeting is that the Cavs are looking at trading Kevin Love.

So my friend proposed a really interesting idea: Kevin Love to the Jazz for Derrick Favors. It works from a salary standpoint, and from a team chemistry/fit standpoint.

The Jazz would get a star to finally help put them over the top. They have lots of good to very good players, but adding Love would give them an elite talent that would help them greatly in the playoffs. His defensive deficiencies would be covered up by Gobert and the perimeter defenders. He, Hayward, and Gobert would complement each other really well, and the three of them would be a freaking terrifying frontcourt.

The Cavs would get rid of one of their big 3 and get someone who would fit their team much better. Favors wouldn’t demand the ball as much as someone like Love, and he would bring very good defense and hustle from a big that up to this point has been lacking. He’s already better than TT a year and a half younger than Love, and is getting better every year.

I realize this probably won’t happen. The Jazz see Favors as a key piece of their future, and Cleveland are Cleveland when it comes to decision making. (side note- as a Wolves fan, I’m happy that we got Wiggins (and maybe Blatt this offseason) due to their poor decision making, lol). But I feel like this is a deal that would make a lot of sense for both teams, and make them both better.

    What do y’all think?

I kind of like that idea. I never thought Kevin Love was as good as most people did, but I think he has been misused. He’s still a good rebounder, but it gets cancelled out with his defense. He’s needs to be more of an offensive weapon and get moved around instead of sitting on the 3 point line. It’s great that he can hit the 3, but he’s more efficient closer to the basket. I’m not sure if the problems were coaching, the other guys, or Love though because he was moving outside more often when he was with Minnesota which made him more inefficient. The difference is he got a lot more shots in general to work with. I doubt Cavs are going to be able to trade him and get back decent value right now though. If he gets shopped it’s probably in the off-season, maybe getting shipped to a team that strikes out on their main targets in free agency.

As far as your trade goes, I think if that move is made Lebron has to play the 4. I don’t like Thompson starting with Favors, but then Cavs probably create a new hole on the wings though it’s probably easier to find a decent replacement there.

More than anything the cavs dont need another big who can’t stretch the floor. That move may help with interior D, but it takes away another shooter and clogs the paint.

I completely agree. I would propose 3 way trade with Boston and Portland.

Cleveland gets- Kelly Olynyk (2.2 m) Meyers Leonard (3.1), Brooklyn 16 pick from Boston and gives up K Love (19.7) & Timofey Mozgov (5m) . Keep 3 PT shooting, better defence and gain huge cap savings and high pick. They don’t use K Love properly and can replace his shooting and defence with couple 7 footers who can defend.

Boston gets- K Love (19.7) & Chris Kaman (5m) & Gives Up David Lee (15.3m ). Kelly Olynyk (2.2)Jared Sullinger ( 2.6m) & Brooklyn unprotected Cleveland pick. Get their star at heavy price but they have plenty of picks and assets and keeps salary cap room for 16 free agents.

Portland gets- David Lee (15.3m), (J Sullinger 2.6m) T Mozgov (5m) & gives up M Leonard (3.1m)  & absorbs the 19.5 million in extra cap room that they presently have. Give up M Leonard but he wants big money next year & can play Sullinger, Lee, Davis at PF next to Plumlee & Mozgov at centre

K Love is the best player in the deal but Cavs really don’t use him any more than the skill set that Olynyk & Leonard provide & gain the pick & 19.5 million in cap room plus the tax penalty savings that go with it. Going to have to pay Leonard next year but could probably move Varejao if needed.

If the Cavs want to trade Love, why not Kevin Love, Sasha Kaun, and Jared Cunningham, plus two future second round picks for Chris Bosh and Gerald Green.

LeBron gets his old running buddy back.

Bosh is an IDEAL stretch five, if they go small with LeBron at the 4.  If they do that they still have Kyrie as a second option on offense, plus JR Smith and Gerald Green (or Shump) on the wings.

If they go BIG, they can have Mozgov at the 5, Bosh at the 4, LeBron at the 3, Green or JR at the 2, and Kyrie at point.

The Heat get more of a power forward to play with Whiteside.  Whiteside can play the 5 exclusively, while Love can shoot some 3’s, and score, and also help out on the boards.

If the Cavs trade Love they need another impact player back.  Bosh gives them that.  He also gives them enough versatility to go big OR small.  Gerald Green helps on the wing too, with his 3 point shooting, and athleticism.

I can think of a handful of trades involving love that might make sense for the cavs. However, I highly doubt they will be trading him this season. Cleveland invested a lot of money to put this roster together and they still haven’t seen how it will work yet in the playoffs. If Cleveland thought love was the problem they wouldn’t have signed him to a mega deal in the offseason and they wouldn’t have fired their coach mid-season, presumably over his lack of involvement on offense. I still think they are committed to their big 3 and want to see how it will work when all are healthy. They might look to add a role player or 2 but I don’t think love is going anywhere.

KLove will get utilized better with Blatt gone, or he will be traded. Irving has’nt even begun to play like he did before the injury,so the only concern the org should have is what to do if he does’nt get back to it soon. They are obviously capable of winning a championship this year without changing any personel, they just need to tweak the rotations and pick up the pace against small ball opposition that is better at it currently than they are, and they need Irving to be Irving again.

I love NBAdraft.net bandwagon jumpers. I remember heaps of kids on here in love with Kevin saying how he was a top 10 player in the league and the Cavs were a lock to win a championship.

Now every second day there seems to be a new Kevin Love trade thread made…

If Kevin Love could play defense there wouldn’t be a problem. It makes sense for him to be on the court if he is able to get 22 to 25 ppg and 4 to 5 apg. The Twolves ran the offense through him his last year there. He is better suited as a second option. He can’t really guard the pick and roll. The warriors offense and the spurs can take advantage of his weaknesses. The spurs even let 39 year old Duncan go after love and he was successful. That is a problem. Ibaka is the perfect fit but for obvious reasons that isn’t going to happen.

Utah would be great if that trade happened.

Cleveland, they would shake things up, and if the idea is to move LeBron to power forward more this works.  Assuming Mozgov goes, they would have Favors, Thompson and Varejao for the center and backup power forward spots.  A shooter at small forward, and James and Irving can dominate the ball and play how they want to.

Love next to Gobert in Utah, that does seem perfect.  Gobert needs space inside, and Love with his shooting keeps defenders away.  Gobert still gets rebounding help, with Love there.

Yeah I suggested this the other day actually. The Cavs have got to think about matching up with Draymond. An athletic big like Favors would work well. I just dont’t think the Cavs will have the balls to make it happen. They just ride out Love with Lue and see how he utilizes him.

Kevin Love is overrated. He’s an empty stats guy. Utah is a team on the come up, if they trade for Love they take a step back.

I HOPE with all my heart that this NEVER happens. If Kevin Love comes in, he’ll want the ball a lot and we’ll be another Minnesota team. Like a lot of people have said, he’s just an empty stats guy. The Jazz want Favors, they definitely shouldn’t trade him.
