Thought this article was pretty interesting, as I always thought Carmelo wasn’t as good as people always say he is.
So my main quesiton, if Carmelo was on the Pacers instead of George, how much worse would they be? Or would they be better(doubt it)?

IndianaBasketballParticipantI was literally just reading this article.
When you look at the personalities of the Pacers players and the chemistry they have, I just don’t think Melo would fit in. Even though PG is a budding superstar, he’s very humble. He’s always about the team. He’s not ball dominant and plays a team game. Melo’s game is sort of selfish. He’s all about isolation, clearouts and doesn’t always look to make the extra pass. PG is completely the opposite.
Throw in the fact that Melo isn’t the strongest defender either, while PG is special at that end.
I think the Pacers would still be a good team w/ Melo, but not as good as they are with PG.

M.GarveyParticipantThanks for the heads up on the article.
My few cents from a Melo fan:
Melo is not as good as Lebron or Durant (duh), he’s not a transcendent star, not a leader, he doesn’t play two way ball. He sometimes floats on the perimeter. I always believed Melo should not shoot less than 47%. If he’s taking 20 shots per, he needs to go inside-out with bullying PF and SF down low. Then roam to perimeter with that sweet
Given all the criticism of I’ve outlined. Here’s where I cut him some slack. In a league where Lebron plays DWade and Bosh – who’s the best teammate he’s played with? I’m waiting….Amare? Nope broken down, JR? Hot and cold. When he had Billups a true leader they went to the conf finals and lost 4-2.

delfamParticipantYour right he never has had any good teammates, but he doesn’t even make the players around him better, if anything he makes them worse.

M.GarveyParticipantWith all my criticisms, the reason I like Melo, is when he’s on he’s beautiful to watch, pause, the array of moves, the way he uses his size speed the fluidity of his game. He wasn’t blessed with all world athleticism and should finish better close to the rim.

delfamParticipantI agree he’s fun to watch when he’s on, but when he’s on he also goes into iso mode and kinda forgets there are 4 other people on the floor.

blooddidnt ever in his career really had that realiable no2 guy, except Iverson but Iverson is pretty much same type of player like Melo just smaller, even for Knicks now i know he’s taking ton of shots but when you look at their roster the only have JR SMITH as "realiable" scorer, nobody else on that team can score,Felton sometimes has outburst but thats it pretty much, its all on Melo,he’s their offense like he was always in his career.I would love to see him with Rondo and new PF,maybe K-Love somehow,i think he would play way more different.

M.GarveyParticipantWatching Knicks-Pacers.
Some thoughts:
Melo missed some shots but where he got himself and the Knicks in the game was going inside: bully balling George and Stephenson. Grabbing and offensive rebound. Taking Hibbert on a switch out then went to the rim. I wish he would play more like this which would faciliate the perimeter game.

M.GarveyParticipantFor all the great D Shumps plays, I always feel he’s always gambling with his hands.
Melo looks out of sync in the second half, he did a good job getting rebounds but man he hasnt been able to hit a shot.

M.GarveyParticipantNo. Clearly Shumpert cost them the game. But Melo will get blamed if they end up 3-13 (I believe they have 5 on the road. Correct me if Im wrong)

BigChamp12ParticipantIt was just guys all over the place on defense. Beno refused to stay with George Hill and kept helping off for no reason. K Mart was on the floor basically for nothing. And the refs were TERRIBLE down the stretch. They called every single touch foul against the Knicks, but the same things were not called at the other end.
Hibbert got Melo’s shot after it touched glass. David West slapped Melo across the head when he blocked his shot. PAul George slightly tipped on the 3ball and the ref blew the whistle. Melo was bumped by George as he shot and nothing was call. Much more contact was there on the shot, but nothing was called. The Knicks BLEW that game, but the refs sure made it tougher to win late in that game.
And if Melo gets the blame, that still doesnt mean that its right. Since the beginning of the season, I’ve been hearing reporters and analysts talk about how HARD Melo is playing on both ends. Teammates have said that they need to come out and makes shots to help Carmelo out some because he has to carry the load. If they lose, Melo may get blamed, but like I said, he’s not what’s wrong with this team.

IndianaBasketballParticipantMelo shot 3-14 in the second half.
PG shot 9-18 in the second half (7-11 in 4th quarter/OT).
I thought PG really stepped up when it matters most and took over the game. I thought the call on Shumpert was a good call. Even if you don’t think it was, PG still had to hit all three free-throws and he did.
It wasn’t pretty, but a win on the road is a win on the road.
