I can understand the arguement that Ingram could be the number one pick because he has more length and is a better shooter than Simmons but can people stop saying that Ingram is a better fit because there is no better fit on a 10 win team.

I feel like this is from my post is previous post about Ingram.

Now I know Philly is after talent and that is great, but they have clear needs outside of that. At the moment in the front-court they have Okafor, Noel(He ain’t gone yet), Embiid and don’t forget Saric who is described as hybrid forward who can do a bit of everything, but lacks shooting. (Sound familiar?) Not saying that Saric is the prospect Simmons is, but to a lesser extent he can offer what Simmons doesat the 3/4 spot.

Ingram is a scorer first and foremost with good range on his jumper, now outside of Covington/Staukas that team has no shooting and in NBA today you need that to win.

Fit is a key aspect of winning and can effect team chemistry, a guy like Ingram can work without the ball meaning more touches for guys like Okafor, Embiid and Saric (Also a PG if they end up with Teague).

Simmons and Saric are completely different and perfectly compatible. Neither player can offer what they other provides yet they can serve a similar positional role as a point forward. Yet Simmons is way more athletic and a much better ball handler and playmaker. Saric is a bit stronger and a better shooter.

Saric doesn’t need the ball in his hands all game to be effective and Simmons does.

Saric shot very few threes in the Euroleague this year, granted he hit at a good clip of 40%, but remember the NBA 3-pt line is further back and at this point it doesn’t mean a lot to be a better shooter than Simmons.
If you saw Saric play you would see that he is in no way stronger than Simmons, he is skinny at does not deal with contact very well I would say Simmons is the stronger of the 2.

Saric is a point forward like Simmons and Simmons is the better player no doubt, if Philly wants to build around Simmons I see quite a few more moves coming and I in no way think that would be a bad thing.

Yah I’m not arguing with that. I think Saric is stronger but that’s my opinion. Saric was playing against grown men in Turkey, Simmons against young men in the SEC.

Simmons is definitely the better player. They are both point forwards but Saric can easily transition into a stretch 4 that handles the ball on pick and pops, pick and rolls and creating transition opportunities off of rebounds. He can shoot and it’s been proven it’s not a mystery although he is streaky (just like any other basketball player). My point is the two can co-exist.

Can Saric shoot? If not they need to determine his trade value…

I heard Chad Ford say that Simmon’s shooting was actually looking pretty decent when he attended a private workout recently. Said he put up 100 or so 3’s and while he needs more work, the idea that he will never be able to shoot is absurd.

In fact, I think he’ll be taking plenty of 3’s in his Rookie season and will probably hit at around 30%. Well below league average, but if he can get that up to 35% by his prime then he will be an MVP candidate because it opens up other parts of his game.

Of course, getting that kinda exclusive into a Ben Simmons workout isn’t going to be granted unless you kiss his A$$ when talking about it to the media, but there is some footage of him showing a slightly improved stroke.
