Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantCan I get some info on Pape Sy? Strengths? Weaknesses? Comparisons? I haven’t seen him play. All I know is he’s from a foreign country and is a 6’7" combo guard.

JNixonParticipantAthletic 6’7 guy who plays PG offensively and can defend all the perimeter positions with effectiveness. He’s a nice leaper and he’s got decent speed and quickness with long arms and a strong build. He can’t shoot and isn’t likely to score (5th option whenever he’s on the floor no matter what), but he is a decent, unselfish passer and a steady but unspectacular ball-handler.
I only watched him play in the Summer League, but that’s what I picked up on watching him play.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantI was expecting JNixon to answer this lol. Thanks bro!
Would you say his defense is in the Tony Allen category?

Mr. 19134ParticipantHe reminds me of Thabo Sefalosha but not nearly as skilled or as smart. I don’t think Sy is an NBA player honestly but he could develop into a solid bench option. A lot of people thought he was a worse draft pick then Ryan Reid.

JNixonParticipantNot yet. He’s raw as a player. But IF he’s retained and if the Hawks feel the need to groom him, in the long term I’d say he has the potential to be a Ronnie Brewer or Tony Allen type on D I’d say. His D is probably where he has the most potential as a prospect.

Mr. 19134ParticipantTongue Out that was the most random question ever how did you get the urge to learn more about Pape Sy?
JNix summed it up about Sy, but I really don’t see him in the league in a few years. From my understanding he played for like a minor league to the minors in France and was a 22 year old small forward over there that can’t shoot and never really averaged more then 9 PPG so being drafted was a huge surprise. He is kinda old so I just don’t really see him ever getting too much better but if he were to develop into a great defender like Thabo then he does have a role in the league. If he don’t he got not shot of sticking around. He is nowhere near Tony Allen’s defensive ability and doesn’t have Allen’s quickness to probably ever be that good. But his length and strength could make him like Ronnie Brewer only on defense tho.

I have no clue, I was watching TNT and they advertised Hawks vs Celtics and I started thinking about their players.
This is literally my train of thought, I remember it so clearly. I’m a Texas fan in college basketball but I’m not entirely dedicated to them. When it comes to college basketball, I really like it all as a whole and not any one team. Here’s my train of thought..
Hmm.. I wonder is Avery Bradley will play since Rondo is out.
Jeff Teague should get the starting job for the Hawks soon.
Marvin Williams sucks.. What does he do for that team anyway?
Jordan Crawford is lights out if he gets it going.
Who the hell is Pape Sy? I know he was drafted and was actually at MSG and received the hat from the guy that was revealing the 2nd round selections of the NBA Draft.0 - Posted on: Fri, 12/17/2010 - 12:22pm #460306
